    I realize that there are some throwaway lines in articles like this, but to say that the Twins have a crowded outfield at the MLB level that may impede Walker Jenkins is a ludicrous statement. No current OF4, Larnach and Wallner still needing to prove they can stick and Buxton's health issues... As excited as we all are for Jenkins, if his MLB debut is before August, the MLB team is having serious problems. The clock is ticking on Julien and Martin. Slow starts from Festa, Matthews, Lee, Wallner, Miranda, possibly even Lewis, could open up a floodgate of new faces by late June.

    If this is true, and a sale of the team is relatively close, I will be willing to give the team a small mulligan for this offseason and possibly this entire season. This transition is the main reason why this team is stuck in the mud, unwilling to raise payroll or seek a complete rebuild. Fan friendly or not, a sale means the Twins can actually move forward.

    Sorry, but any other year and this move is barely a blip on the radar. The Twins needed another system catcher and they got one for nothing. At least this move gives us something to talk about.

    I stopped reading when you suggested trading a young, reliable starting catcher for a reliever. Amazing some of the thought processes out there.

    @Nick Nelson An explanation is probably needed as to why Buxton and Castro were omitted entirely from your list. Maybe a follow up article on the who missed and why. Personally for me: Correa is too low and the relievers are too high. Thanks for the rundown.

    Matthews and Larnach both do not belong in this quadrant, they belong lower. The Twins really don't yet know what they have with Matthews, considering how quickly they were forced to rush him to the majors. His prospect value is not extremely high... Larnach has been underwhelming until this past season. His value is not high yet... Neither of these two should be above Correa, SWR, or Jeffers.

    I 100% agree with you at this point. However, I do not recall seeing anything public about the Twins 2025 intentions with him this offseason.

    In a perfect world, having 4A depth at SP is ideal. Currently (no trades), they are arguably sitting with 2 ready guys in AAA, possibly three depending on where they see Varland. They won't spend money on a SP guy like this to lounge around. If they trade Paddack, an argument can be made to sign him as a SP. However, I don't believe he will move the needle with the team having cheaper equivalent options in MiLB. But it still comes back to cost. The argument is somewhat moot if they can sign him for $2-3m, but he will probably go for more.

    As with any signing like this, it depends on the what the contract looks like. If he wants to continue to start, he won't come to MN. He isn't a real upgrade over what they currently have. As a reliever, he could be a good fit here.

    Has there been anything reported about the Twins being an option for Roki? A whiff, a puff of smoke, an off-hand comment from Falvey's second cousin, twice removed... anything? If not, why put him in the same article as the rest of these questions. Everything else is a true question this team faces, Roki is a beyond a lottery ticket. I am watching to see if they dismantle this team. A healthy SP trio of Lopez/Ryan/Ober will give them at least a puncher's chance at the offseason. Trading one of these 3 says a lot about the future, regardless of what they get in return.

    This team regularly prioritizes positional flexibility over offensive capabilities. They go after cheaper players that are "flawed". A big reason why they are cheaper tends to be the splits. They are not true every day players. Many of the youngers coming up show the same flaws. I believe there are times Rocco over-manages the platooning. He places greater emphasis on AB in innings 4-6 knowing it will kick him in innings 7-9. I don't always like it, but for the most part I do understand why he does what he does. Platoons need to be constantly re-evaluated. Players adjust. Matchups and pitch-types vary from day to day. Sometimes opportunities need to be given.

    I believe Rocco's contract status is more dependent on the current ownership situation more than anything else. It will be interesting to see how this get's addressed as the season goes on. Signing an extension or being let go (especially if the team underperforms), either option would not really surprise me.

    1) No guarantee that Vazquez will be traded. Even if he is, no guarantee the Twins won't have to eat some salary. 2) The Twins just traded for a guy that would effectively fill the Vazquez role should he be gone. 3) McCann is not an upgrade over Vazquez. This article might have made more sense before the Gasper trade. Now it feels dated...

    You listed the top three OPS+ position players still on the roster. Add Miranda and Larnach to your list and no one else was over 110. If those three drop, then an already negative outlook for 2025 looks devastatingly bad.

    This is an insurance move if/when they move Vazquez. That this is probably the loudest move this team will make between now and ST is very sad. Welcome to the new age of Twins baseball.

    I agree with a lot of what you are saying here. IMO the guys you have 3-7 in the lineup are relatively interchangeable, with lot depending on how they are playing on any given day. I am a big believer on getting AB for your best hitters and OB guys, so there is an argument to be made that Buxton and Larnach should be 3/4 moving Lewis down. But there is still a lot of uncertainty around, well... that whole group.

    I generally agree with your first point. However making this move would make upward momentum extremely difficult. I am curious how much of the end of season collapse is attributed to clubhouse morale. Losing is never good for morale, but it did not seem to be an issue for the first 110+ games.

    You can argue on-field production against salary, but moving Correa does a few things: 1) Kills public perception. Correa waving his no-trade indicates he has given up on this team. By trading Correa, the Twins would be waving the white flag and be saying a rebuild is coming. 2) Kills television revenue. On old TV contracts, the Twins got paid whether they were competitive or not. The Twins new television contract requires subscriptions to make money, meaning an entertaining on-field product. Trading your best player does not help this situation. 3) Kills clubhouse. See #1. Morale would fall into the Pit of Despair. 4) Creates a gaping hole at SS and in the lineup, with nobody ready to fill those shoes.

    Wade would fit on the field. I would be fine if they brought in Polanco on a very small, make good contract. Polanco could also provide some insurance at 2B (not to mention the clubhouse presence). I am curious how Solano would fit in this discussion. So many posters are arguing to let the younger guys roll. Generally teams that run 5-6 guys with 1-2 years of experience are rebuilding. Though they are not spending money, that is not happening here. There is a reason why the Twins continue to look to fill 1B, 2B, OF4 even though they have Miranda. Lee, et. al. They obviously do not have 100% confidence in these guys and want a veteran presence for insurance.
