    Pitching is always a risk due to the nature of the position. Un-natural stress, motions, and angles. With the added max-effort expectations, it is a boon to see pitchers make it through an entire season. More than any other position, the Twins SP will determine how competitive the Twins will be this year. I agree that on paper, the Twins have a very high floor. If they a see a larger amount of success from the Paddack, Festa, Matthews group. it will be interesting to see if they try to parlay some of that depth into a position of need (MLB 1B / C prospect)

    I agree that Lee needs AB. He only has 2+ years or pro ball, they have been pretty quick with him. I would like to see him him tear up AAA for a month and come up rocking, unlike last year.... Deserved or not, I think the leash on Julien will be short. He feels like the odd man out right now: no trust at 2B, no trust at 1B, no confidence with the bat. If gasper continues to hit, I could easily see Julien getting traded at some point.

    I would flip-flop Gasper and Lee, but I think this is pretty solid. I have said elsewhere that 2B would be a rotating position unless someone grabbed it. Right now, Gasper has grabbed it.

    Castro fits the mold here as well... Not every reclamation project has been a win (looking at you Joey Gallo), but the Twins probably have seen a net positive when it comes to these types of signings. The major problem is that they get magnified when these signings tend to be the "big move" of the offseason. The other point of contention is the connection of players on the list (Santana, France, Solano, include Gallo here too). The Twins really need to find someone they trust long-term at 1B.

    I don't think you can ignore what Gasper has done this Spring. He doing everything he needs to do to secure 2B. Could easily see Julien, Lee, or even both start the season in AAA.

    In a bubble we can complain about K-Rate, but the game has changed in the last 10 years where higher K-rates have become acceptable. Trading OBP for Slugging % is the norm. If Wallner were to get his K-Rate to 25% and maintain his other stats, we would be talking about a top 10 player in baseball. I would be happy if Wallner just got his K-Rate down to the low 30s.

    Many reasons to be optimistic with Wallner, but currently still falls into the same category as Castro, Miranda, Larnach... We need to see more of the same. Maintain and/or grow, do not regress.

    I 100% expect to see the betting lines ticker at the bottom of the screen within the next few years. The "Fire Manager" button would cause too many remotes/keyboards to break causing widespread shortages at Best Buy.

    .550 avg and and 1.641 OPS is what Twins Daily posters expect from the group coming up from AAA ball. France was always a candidate for a bounce back season. It is good to see he is comfortable and seeing the ball well. It is early, but good to see this type of start.

    Reading the comments here is like watching an NFL team that has an average level QB. Everybody roots for the backup thinking he is the second coming. The backup may even show flashes in limited game action. However the team knows that the backup will not be able to handle the position long term. There must be something in Keirsey's game, approach, attitude that is giving the Twins pause about letting Keirsey have an extended MLB run. Unfortunately we as fans will never really know.

    The hating on Dobnak is unwarranted. The Twins took a promising young pitcher, locked him into an insanely cheap contract, than watched him get injured as other names passed him by. He has come back to look like a possible MLB pitcher somewhere. The guy does what he is asked, has basically been a workhorse for the organization, and has not said one negative word about his situation. The Twins aren't looking to move him because of all the net positive things he provides. When his contract is up, he will get other opportunities. Stop the hate, respect the dude.

    I am not arguing here, just confirming. Is that the case regardless of when the trade happens? It seems to me that when Rule V trades have happened in the past, there was no DFA/waiver process, the trade just happened. Though, as you mentioned, there may have been a recent procedural change.

    BP injuries are part of the game. It is a good thing we have <insert pitchers name here> to step in and fill that role. The coaching staff knew that <insert pitchers name here> would be ready to step up and that the staff would not lose a step. Rocco expects that <insert pitchers name here> will be able to handle high leverage situations and be a boon for this team. Everyone be ready for great things from <insert pitchers name here>.

    We are talking about a pitcher left off the 40-man roster from an organization that doesn't have much pitching in MiLB. I understand you are talking about what was reported, but I am having a hard time seeing the asking price being anything more than a low level flier prospect at this juncture. Castellano has been in the Phillies organization for years, I doubt 3 weeks of Twins coaching is going to change their opinion of him. I really like the Rule V aspect of baseball. It helps to ensure that prospects don't spend their entire career trapped. That being said, the overall impact of acquired players via the Rule V draft is very low.

    Not in excess... Keeping him healthy is the biggest issue. Attempting to steal 25-30 bags feels like an unnecessary risk.

    Looking at his overall picture, he has been (at-worst) average. Average RP that are very inexpensive don't get discarded. So yeah, I guess I don't get it.

    It's not easy to provide insight when there is little insight to provide. Gasper is new to the organization, they want to know what they have. 2B will be revolving until/unless somebody claims it. Spring stats (especially early spring stats) mean zero for SP. Barring injury or somebody completely melting down, Paddack and SWR go 4/5 in the rotation. We will see how that looks in May. Varland pitching 1 inning at a time may be the most telling part of this article, as it leads us to believe he is being groomed for RP. Injuries will clean up some decisions here. Also watch for a trade that allows the Twins to send down Castellano and keep him in the organization.

    Blown Saves is a horrendous stat to use to define quality, just as Saves is equally horrendous. Based on the comments for this article, I wonder how many heads will explode when he makes the Opening Day roster over Varland. Considering we are talking about the back-end of the bullpen, it will be interesting.

    Not sure about all the hate on Tonkin. He has basically been an average-slightly above average RP with a rubber arm since coming back from Japan. I have no clue why teams have been releasing him. Preseason stats do not matter, especially for pitchers. If the Twins do cut him, I guarantee another team will pick him up within days. Regarding Varland, anybody here find it odd the Twins won't publicly commit to Varland's role? What do they have to gain by the secrecy? I think the only reason to do that is because he is still in the SP mix and want to push out any public outcry.

    Ishiba, owning the Phoenix Suns, pays over $100 million more in salary and penalties than the 2nd highest NBA team. This isn't about floors, it is about spending. While I don't believe he would spend like the Dodgers, one has to wonder what adding another $75m to the Twins payroll would do. Brainwashed in that fans have basically accepted ownerships slow spending approach to the point of defending it. I see lots of comments here complaining about how Rays can do it, so the Twins should be able to do it as well. Lots of comments about the FO should be fired because of contracts/players/transactions that wouldn't even blip other organizations. The status quo is just accepted. I agree that we won't know how the new ownership shakes out for a few years, but Ishiba brought with him a track record of spending excessive money on player salary. We do not know what he would have done to the FO, the MLB staff, etc., but from a spend POV, Ishiba would be everything Twins fans would want in an owner.

    This particular billionaire has shown a willingness to indiscriminately spend money on his teams, something the Twins have never really had. That was a main reason for the initial excitement. Twins fans have been brainwashed for decades that slow and steady is the way to go, that the Twins do not need to spend a ton of money to win. Ishbia could have easily flipped all of that on it's head.
