    My one major decision issue I had this weekend was Ober. I thought he was left out there at least an inning too long. He was struggling right from the start. Tack on the knowledge that he was sick makes it look even worse. Slow starts seem to be common place in Minnesota. Correa, Wallner, Buxton... I am less concerned with the pitching, if the lack of offense continues, it is going to get very miserable around here very quickly.

    Splitting hairs here. Both are relatively upper end pitching prospects. Both will be given opportunities. All that matters is the MLB results.

    The Twins did not move Vazquez this offseason, I think that says a lot about how the Twins feel about this group of catchers. They are hoping that one of these three steps up to fill the 2nd Catcher spot next year, otherwise they will go out and sign the retread veteran next offseason.

    To all the people squashing a potential Jeffers extension, please look at the minors and tell me who will replace him. A healthy league average catcher is nothing to sneeze at. Because he has been mostly part-time, the mileage on his body is not as bad as it could be. I am not a huge fan of a over-long contract here, but something along the lines of 4/$55m with a loud team option or two makes sense to me.

    I think the Hunter comp is pretty solid. Obviously health is the key here, but a transition to a corner slot makes sense at some point (Walker Jenkins anyone?). Overpays on short-term contracts do not really hurt teams, including the Twins. The two points that really address the question at hand is how long does Buxton want to play, and will other teams value him more than the Twins (Kepler) at some point.

    I think the Correa prediction is one year too early. If Lewis misses substantial time again and Miranda butchers the position on defense, I can see the Twins proactively making this move in the offseason.

    I can't remember the last time this team had such a huge range of win possibilities. It would not surprise me if this team won 92 games. It would not surprise me if this team won 72 games. Questionable health of your stars and inconsistent performance from your youth is a bad combination. As the saying goes: everybody wins 60, everybody loses 60, its the other 42 games that make or break you. (We can thank LAD and CWS for ruining this quote).

    Poll of the day could be fun. Serious and not so serious questions. With health being the biggest hurdle for this team, it should be no surprise it is a bulk of the current conversation.

    Two years ago Miguel Vargas for the Dodgers played a large chunk of ST in the lineup when he was ordered by the Dodgers not to swing the bat. Players are regularly mic'ed up in the field during games. Tie games happen regularly. QB Russell Wilson got an at-bat a few years ago. Will Ferrell played for 10 teams on one day in 2015. Dodgers batboy Chico Herrera played OF for them for some televised ST games in 2020. Any discussion of the importance of wins and losses in ST is a nonstarter.

    I agree with your comments about the Pohlads. I believe they know they do not have a great relationship with the fans, and part of the reason they are selling is they do not believe they can repair it under their current method of doing business. But I don't think they truly get the level of vitriol aimed at them, especially from the die-hards. Regarding Baltimore, there is more than just the numbers you are referencing. Being a coastal team, they bring a lot more overall attention. I would also bet their brand awareness is light-years ahead of the Twins. Playing the Yankees and Red Sox all season doesn't hurt either. The valuation difference I am talking about is not in the billions, but more like $150-300 million. IMO the Twins should be looked at as an underachieving asset. For all the reasons you gave above, this team should be bringing in more income through all of the outlets (tickets, merch, tv, etc.). The right new owner coming in could really push this team to a higher level..

    I have no problem with the Pohlad's asking high for the sale of the team. All it takes is one. That being said, when all the bids come in, how willing are the Pohlad's to move from that high number to get the team sold? I do disagree with your comment about the Twins as a business proposition. I challenge anyone to find one previous NFL/NBA/MLB owner that has sold their team in the last 30 years that has lost money on their franchise. While year over year may not be great, capital gains rule the day. The risk is not "will I make money?" it is "will I make money fast enough to meet my needs?".

    1) This is Minnesota. Did we really expect something to go positive and easy with one of our sports teams? 2) Joe Pohlad may want to stay on board, but it could easily be a posturing ploy, a negotiating piece for the sale. 3) If the immediate sale of the club has cooled, what does this mean for the on-field product? Does the FO continue to be in a no-spend holding pattern? For how long do we-as-fans have to suffer? 4) Forbes listed the Twins value between $1.45-1.7 billion. The Orioles recently sold for about $1.7 billion. The Twins are not worth more than the Orioles. We are about to find out how serious the Pohlad's are about moving the Twins.

    Lee as a backup was fine. Lee as a starter and primary cog is worrisome. Lee as a bystander knocks down the house of cards? All this talk of losing Correa to an injury will ruin this team... if course it will. Any team that loses left side if the infield and two of it's better bats should expect some doom and gloom, regardless if the backups. Backups are backups for a reason, if they were strong, they would be starting. You take away a teams starting 3B and the primary backup, you need to expect problems.

    I was expecting the article to say Stephen A Smith came out and say WJ was a complete bust. 13 spots in a national prospect ranking is controversy? One time I would like an article to come out say: Happy Thursday! There is nothing new to add to the existing articles today, so I am not going to waste your time. Go Twins!

    This comment really hits (pun intended) on how different eras are in baseball. So many factors... Arraez was born about 40 years too late.

    I am 100% in agreement on Duran. He is looking like Eddie Guardado out there: pitching himself into trouble and then (hopefully) pitching himself out of it. Even with Duran's velo decrease, he should still be a top-level RP. He needs to make the necessary adjustments if he wants to regain an elite level status. As I said elsewhere, he looks like a player that the Twins may want to trade while his value is high and the bullpen looks deep. Better a year too early than a year too late, especially for a RP.

    Barry Bonds said (paraphrasing) it didn't matter how fast the pitcher threw. The catcher would catch it with his glove, he would "catch" it with his bat. Throwing vs pitching. Duran was good, not great, last year. If the Twins are seeing a less effective pitcher with bad trending for no real reason, they should trade him today while his value is still high. Better a year too early than a year too late.

    Less about the rankings, more about the grades given to players and what they based their opinions on. I am going to guess they undervalued most of the Twins team, which as a non-coastal team sounds about right. These articles are all about clicks after all, no one outside of the Midwest could even tell you who Pablo Lopez pitches for.

    What the heck does "optimistic" mean? Better than last year? Division winner? World Series? A healthy team? If we are talking about winning a WS, all optimism was washed away when the owners decided not invest in improving the on-field product and talked about reducing payroll.

    I believe the numbers show that every spot in the lineup gets ~20 more PA than the next one over the course of the season. Meaning the leadoff position gets 20 more PA than the 2nd position, 2nd position gets 20 more than the 3rd position, etc... I have never understood why you take great hitters and have them bat 4th or 5th when you have low contact/OBP guys batting leadoff or second, costing them 60-80 (!) PA over the course of a year. The top 3 spots in the lineup should always be Correa, Buxton, and Wallner in some capacity.

    I won't even get started on increased torque, un-natural arm movement, increased weightlifting impacting muscle flexibility... Should we add over-usage in HS and no time off during the year during that time? This is an alarming trend that everyone knows about. Tommy John has almost become the norm, not the exception.

    Hard to know whether this comment is serious or just inciting arguments... I guarantee you no one feels worse about his injury then Lewis. I guarantee you Lewis, with his history, put an insane amount of time in to avoid this type of injury. These are not robots, they are humans. Genetics, predisposition, potential "flaws" in how the body is designed. Elite athletes do not all have elite genetics. The amount of effort and stress they put on their body goes way beyond anything the typical fan knows about. Feel bad for Lewis, but don't oversimplify what is happening here.
