    I agree with you. IMO, the Twins should not make a trade for Cease without an extension in place, meaning they probably shouldnt make the trade. As others have said, a one-year rental is a move made by a team that is one piece away from winning it all. That does not describe the Twins. By all means, invest in established pitching if the move is prudent. You can never have too much quality pitching.

    This is a fair question. I am not saying they would get him at a discount, and the going price for SP is skyrocketing (which is why I have no understanding of people looking to trade Lopez with his relatively inexpensive contract), but trading Cease for one year does not make sense for the Twins. I would expect something like 4/$120m. But the Twins would never do this without the new owners permission.

    I love Arraez as much as the next guy, but there is a reason why Arraez will be playing for his 4th team in 4 years. The overall value is just not there. I have said this in another thread, but the Twins should not make a move for Cease unless they sign him to an extension and invest more salary money to improve the team. As for an actual trade, Cease for Vazquez, SWR, and a prospect in the 10-14 ranked range.

    Fun to be optimistic about a position of need in the organization. I would expect at least a half season in AAA before he would get serious consideration as a call up. The team will probably be a little cautious early on with the knee. Give him few months to show he is healthy and ready for the grind. Of course he he could force the issue by his play.

    Not against a move, but any trade for Cease would need to require a contract extension as part of the deal. Any pitcher not named Lopez, Ryan, or Ober should be available. Only untouchable prospect IMO is Jenkins, but Vasquez, SWR, and a #10-15 prospect should get this deal done. That being said, a move like this can't be done by itself. A commitment of salary for this caliber of pitcher needs accompanying moves to improve the team. Why make a move like this if you aren't really making a push to be successful?

    I am sorry, I don't understand this take. Are you saying that the Twins melted down last Fall because Vazquez did not provide enough clubhouse leadership? Are you saying that clubhouse leadership is not something the team should be focusing on? If my memory serves, the Twins have been either regularly close to or above beginning of the year win projections. What were they projected last year? 83-84 wins? It was ugly because of how they got there. I honestly don't remember the last time the Twins were decisively under win projections

    I am surprised at how quickly everyone here is to dismiss what Vasquez brings to the team. This is largely an issue of what we know and what we don't know. How much value does he bring Jeffers on a day-to-day basis? How much value does he bring to a relatively young pitching staff on a day-to-day basis? What is his clubhouse presence? Is his impact positive? Team sports are always about more than what is on paper. He was initially signed by the Twins to help bring stability to the position and leadership for the pitchers. By all accounts he has done that. Arguments can be made that you can get a statistical equivalent player for less. That does not mean you will get a better fit.

    I like the article angle, but I think the importance of this season is not because of on-field issues, which every team has every season, but the off-field issues: -When does the team sell? If reports are true, and the team sells within the next few months, what steps do the new owners take? Invest capital to improve the team? Trade everyone and rebuild? Do they keep the administration, or do they go out and get different people? This is, by far, the single most important item to impact this team since the contraction discussion. -What is the impact of the new broadcasting deal? Does the potential increased viewership create a long-term capital base for this team? Does it blow up in their face? What are the secondary impacts that may come from this (merchandise, ticket sales, advertising)? -How does the CBA expiring after 2026 impact the Twins view of longer term deals? Do they try to lock up their younger players not knowing what changes are on the horizon? Regarding on-field issues, this is really a make-or-break season for many players: Miranda, Julien, Varland, Topa, and Paddack are playing for their Twins life Wallner, Castro, Larnach, Sands, and SWR need to prove last year was not a fluke and they belong Lee, Martin, Festa, Matthews, and Kiersey need to play well enough to not get run over by the incoming players behind them

    A bullpen's performance might be the hardest area to predict. Most RP are uneven throughout their career. Having a strong BP one year does not mean that same BP will be good next year. On paper, the Twins BP looks promising. But as seems to be the Twins mantra right now, seeing success from unproven/unknown individuals and staying healthy will be big.

    I am not convinced this team is in win-now mode. Win-now teams either increase salary or make decisions that are not aways in the best for long term interests. I think this team is in stuck-in-the-mud mode until they have a better idea of what ownership wants. Because of that, management does not know which way to go. Improve the team or tear it down. This basically kills any deal that has a whiff of impact. That being said, here we have another article looking to trade a young, cheap, starting caliber position player for a RP. I don't have the words...

    Duran is a competent reliever, but I don't think he is dominant. Sands numbers were better than Duran basically across the board. Duran throws heat, but the reults don't really live up to the hype. This BP isn't even the best in the division, much less all of MLB

    Two words for this section: Health and Hope Can Buxton stay healthy? Hoping Wallner and Larnach maintain and do not regress (again). Considering how the DH is currently used, using individual players as a measuring stick does not make a lot of sense.

    Yeah... Not sure why you are lumping Kepler in with Sano (clickbait?). Sano's issues are well documented: unwilling to to put the work in, weight issues, injuries compounded by both of those things. Management not reading the tea leaves and bouncing him around on the field did not help. For some reason many people on this site have a lot of hate for Kepler. Not sure why. Fantastic defense, good-enough offense, 10 years with the team. Every team needs players like this.

    This is not a dollar-by-dollar comparison. Yearly income/loss, secondary income from MLB, owner revenue sharing, there are a lot of dollars unaccounted for here. It is also very easy in hindsight to go back and cherry pick investments to bolster this argument. For the majority of baseball owners, the issue is status as much as money. Regardless of anything you hear, owners make money (both short term and long term) on these teams. The perception status of owning a team, bringing a championship and being loved by millions of people is real.
