    Nick Punto is probably kicking himself for not playing in today's era... Castro as a luxury is an inane comment. Edman's contract only reinforces the value Castro brings to this team. And no, there is no one in the MiLB system that comes close to providing what Castro does.

    Why does increased game length correlate to incompetent MLB management? Technology and information are more to blame then anything right now for game length. Other leagues are experiencing similar issues and are struggling to adjust. Just watch an NBA game today compared to 10 years ago. They look nothing alike. The NFL is constantly tinkering with their rules.

    I have been cautiously optimistic about the rule changes that have been implemented over the years, but there has been undeniable logic in each change made. Reducing down-time, injury prevention, efforts to maintain the defacto balance of hitters and pitchers. None of the changes made so far have really been a "foundational" change of the game. Maybe the closest being the full-time DH, but even that was still done within the context of the game as we know it. This idea would be a "foundational" change. The ripple effects of this type change would be astounding. Lineups would be impacted, pitcher usage would change, rosters would change to reflect the use of "one less needed" pinch-hitter. You might as well introduce the re-entry rule they use in Little League. That being said, this is probably one change idea of hundreds that are batted around at these types of meetings. You want your leadership to be open to change and at least listen to all ideas. Absurd ideas can lead to logical changes. Nobody here should panic about anything until they start testing it at the MiLB level. Then you know it is getting strong consideration.

    Not sure why we are discussing these three specifically. Your 4th OF typically brings one strong skill and is lacking in others, hence 4th OF. There is no Robbie Grossman or Billy Hamilton here. At best, they match what the Twins have in AAA and would be more expensive. Kind of a non-starter discussion.

    Sometimes when I comment here, I feel like a broken record... MLB is littered with players that had to bounce around before they saw success. Some need a new environment, some need the right advice at the right time, some need to be moved to a terrible team where your liabilities are not an issue to allow you to work on your game at the MLB level. Now I want to see woulda/shoulda/coulda articles about: Lamont Wade Liam Hendricks Ian Hamilton

    I agree that their top 3 is pretty solid (assuming Ryan is healthy). My issue is the argument the Twins have depth at SP. They really don't. If they did, they would not have run out Varland as much as they did last year. They have a solid top 3, SWR can be a decent SP4, but teams caught on to him the last third of the season, he needs to make the necessary adjustments. EVERY single other SP on the rotation has huge question marks. Until those questions are answered, there are 3-4 SP and nothing else. That is not depth.

    Really? I mean every offseason prior to last one, the Twins spent money. They have basically announced they are not raising payroll this offseason. Have you not been paying attention to all the screaming on this website about the change in payroll approach?

    In theory, this would be a respectable gamble. In reality, the Twins can't/won't throw $5-6m in salary to the wind this year.

    Did you seriously write that the Twins have a luxury of depth at SP? Really? 3 quality starters, a broken-down vet, a rookie that went downhill after teams got a look at him and a whole bunch unproven question marks? I have no idea how to respond to that.

    The Rooker trade bashing is ignorance. As has been commented time and time again he was not going to get a look in Minnesota. Multiple teams did not want him before he saw success. This dog is beyond dead, stop beating it.

    Any complaint about ANY MiLB pitcher signing is just plain ignorance. There are numerous reasons to sign guy that go beyond whether or not they make the big team: Veteran presence, pressuring the younger guys to be successful, system depth, complete flyer while a guy tries to come back from injury or meltdown. Sign as many of these guys that you think can help and see how things play out.

    Fair enough. I have lesser faith in the younger guys than most. IMO I think there is so much instability from the younger guys (Lee, Martin), to the next levels (Wallner, MIranda, Larnach) to the health (Lewis, Buxton, Correa) that Castro provide insurance across the board. If he is with the Twins and getting 600 AB again, it means the team is melting down. Again. Even at 450 AB he has that value to the team.

    Agreed. I am not sure how you can put a $2m price tag on the value he brings. If the Twins want to trade him while his value is high, fine. But to non-tender him makes zero sense at that price point.

    Extremely cheap, potentially capable. The Twins mantra for 2025. Neither of these guys are going anywhere.

    Teams need guys like Tonkin. Relatively inexpensive, experienced, not a train-wreck, inning-eater. He will get that $1-2m contract from someone. I am not sure the Twins yet know what they have with Topa, but they may feel they need to recoup something from that trade. Both of these guys are known by the Twins. I am not sure they can find better at this price-point. If they non-tender both, it tells me they will not spend a dime on the BP this offseason

    I think it is a little early to make that choice with Varland. If the Twins decide to keep him as a starter, he will have to make adjustments and prove he is more than a AAAA pitcher. I don't see that happening until he gets a dozen MiLB starts in 2025. I think there is a strong possibility the Twins sign another scrap heap starter to provide some depth.

    Larnach for Luzardo is a pipe dream. I love Lewis, but I love pitching more. Trading Lewis for Luzardo could solidify the rotation for years. I would make that trade today.
