  1. This managerial selection tells me one thing for sure: the new minority owners will have very little say in club operations. Falvey made a point in his press conference to pay lip service to consulting with new owners and giving them a seat at the table. It's hard to imagine the new owners would have listed Shelton as their first pick. He puts no fans in seats and has no winning record. C'mon new owners and show some moxie! Hold Falvey's feet to the fire and make him actually improve this team.
  2. It depends on who is making the decision, given what Falvey said at his press conference re the need to solicit the advice of the new minority owners as well as Pohlads on major decisions, If it's up to Falvey the answer on Hunter is NO. However, if Hunter is willing to accept peanuts for pay, the owners may see his charisma as a revenue generator, unlike any other candidate. They could build the 2026 buzz around him.
  3. I wish someone in the Twins front office had the guts to send this article to Joe Torre or whoever is in charge of umpiring.
  4. I loved watching him play first base. He would snap his glove catching pop-ups.
  5. The Yankees and the Red Sox made good offers for Santana, but right after their GMs met with each other, those offers were rescinded. Twins were left with only the crummy offer from the Mets. But if course there was no collusion. ....
  6. Another problem is his righty- lefty useage is based on a generality. Some right handed pitchers are actually tougher against lefties. It seems Rocco has decided all left handed hitters will do worse in a specific situation than a bad right handed hitter. He would pinch hit for Rod Carew with Willie Norwood.
  7. Is Kiersey ever going to get a chance with the big club? With Buxton out, he seems to have the tools needed. Much rather watch him than Margot.
  8. Very insightful, Parker but you missed the most obvious reason for his second half improvement. He started wearing his socks up to his knees!
  9. Really appreciate articles like these that are thoughtful and realistic. This trade makes sense. My only concern is at shortstop once Farmer is traded. Do the Twins have enough faith in Brooks Lee or Royce Lewis to backup Correa for a long stretch? There is a shortage of shortstops on the market this year. Look at IKF's recent contract. I think Farmer could be worth more than this trade envisions.
  10. Hilarious. I can just hear these guys saying these things. You should send this to the Cohen brothers.
  11. It seems Buxton's knee problems the past two seasons started shortly after he devoted his off- season to a special sprinting-speed running program to get even faster. Did they overdo it? Did he get injured then and not tell anyone? Was that program approved by the club and its insurerer?
  12. Why was Duran pitching in a certain loss? He will be unavailable for at least one Phillies Game
  13. The Padres broadcasters felt that Correa could have had a triple had he not stood in the box admiring his presumed HR to center. He then would have scored easily from third on the next single instead of being thrown out at the plate. The game would have ended after 8.5 innings and Jax and Duran not burned out. Please Rocco, stop telling us how "hard" the players are working when their leader isn't running hard out of the box and you do nothing about it.
  14. Baldelli says he never pays attention when an umpire talks to the opposing pitcher. Why not? Isn't that part of your job, or your assistants? Also the seige by the Yankees literally surrounding the umpires while the crowd yelled was pure intimidation. Rocco should have gone into that huddle and advocated then and there.
  15. Glad someone finally wrote this article. Last night is a perfect example. Why didn't Correa score in the first inning on the error at first base? He seems to be trying to coach other runners instead of just running fast to the next base. Either they ignore Watkins or he is too cautious. Why don't they actually practice situational baserunning?
  16. Those Sanchez lowlights are brutal.
  17. Great article. I'm so jealous. I grew up in the 60s and was passionately in love with baseball and softball but there were no girls teams then. I never got to play on a team until adult city league 3 pitch. Luckily my daughters played fast pitch through HS and I was at every game. Funny, but I'm a lawyer too. Keep writing!
  18. Good points by mnfireman. Kirby had highlights at the wall, but I never saw him lay out or dive for a ball. Can't blame him since the ground was concrete, but he never did it on grass field either.
  19. Terrific article! Keep it up. Lin had a good spring and hopefully gets a chance at the big club.
  20. Ironic that we have to go to a sports blog to find such beautiful writing. Just marvelous,Matthew. Keep writing, please.
  21. Twins should have done some due diligence. SF Giants claimed they wanted to compete and they kept Bumgarner and Smith, even though both are free agents in 2020. Yet they were willing to deal Dyson, who is team-controlled in 2020. IF SF honestly believed they had a chance at the playoffs, why not keep Dyson, too?
