  1. Thanks for daring to broach this subject Cody. I very openly concerned about the fact we resigned Correa last year and was opposed to it for many reasons with the risk of signing any player his age for a longterm 36 .Mill as a small market team. After all two teams passed due to medical. Concerns. FanGraph had his value at 9 mill. He's got a long way to back to a 18 million value which is only HALF his salary.. Personally I hope his anger about us not spending money waiving his no trade contract and demanding a trade. But I doubt we could find a partner willing to pay him more than 24 mill max, if that and we would have to throw in big money. The only reason the pre ious article is proposing trading Lee is because Correa is in his way. With our payroll problems do you think Correa is 36 times more valuable than Lee at a time we are strapped for cash.
  2. Young quality players with low salaries and many arbitration years left are worth their weight in gold to a small market team strapped for cash. No so much to a team with money to spend. We are who we are and have a nice nucleus of young players. I'm fine with where we are at ..
  3. Fair points. Guess we need to let another year go by to have this conversation again. I would love nothing more than you be right, but other than a great last month of the year in 2022 and a very good playoff series I just see a shell of what he used to be. Sure hope he doesn't get off to a horrible start the first half of next year like he has in 2022 and 2023
  4. The question is will he hit better than Lewis and play way better at shortstop because for a small market team, not out-performing a player making 32 million less is a disaster. I feel Lewis has the ability to be every bit of a clubhouse leader than Correa and has been a teammate of our young players throughout the minors.. I'm just saying his statistics don't come anywhere close to matching his performance. And the number of double-play rally killers he had last year take a lot off of his statistics that don't show up.
  5. I agree with your assessment but paying one player 36 million dollars and losing your TV contract makes you take gambles you otherwise would be able to afford not to.
  6. But we did have Kyle Farner cued up to play. Kyle's production would have been as good or better with the same number of at-bats, and from what I remember, he played very well at shortstop. Correa did play well in the playoffs, I'll give him that, but Correa's overall play didn't warrant 30 million more in salary. Farmer was only intended to be a stop-gap until Lewis was ready. Had we not signed Correa, I'm sure Lewis would have been prepped at short with Lee in the wings. Correa didn't play up to his salary the first year we had him, and two teams backed out of contracts due to injury concerns. And it was an injury that slowed down his season this year. Are our doctors right and the other teams wrong? We better hope so because we have a 36 million-dollar nose hanging around our heads if they aren't A small market team like ours (and getting smaller with the TV issues) does not have the luxury of making that big of a mistake. Correa has started out both seasons with a cold bat through at least the first half of the season if not longer. Let's pray that doesn't happen again and his ankle holds up. I like Correa as a person and have not been rooting against him but I haven't let his personality or star status get in the way of my analysis.
  7. I've been saying this all season but most don't want to acknowledge signing Correa was a bad move especially when they had Lewis and Lee cued up to play shortstop ..
  8. Unfortunately, that would leave us with two left-handed first basemen, Julien and Krilloff. I really like your idea, Cody. Can't believe I didn't think of it .. lol But all he needs to do is learn how to play first to back up Krilloff. In essence, it turns Polanco into a utility infielder for the right side of the diamond and DH. Lewis would be the backup shortstop (or Lee )if Correa were out for any length of time. Lewis, if Correa just needs a breather with Castillo moving to third. Castillo is a far better defensive third baseman than Polanco and has flexibility in the outfield.
  9. I'd do an Alonzo for Mercedes/Sabato trade in a heartbeat with the Mets eating a lot of Alonzo's salary. Just can't see the Mets falling for it.
  10. Kep is a good value at 10 mill. No way I would pay him 21 mill next year and even if we wanted to we don't have the money. So keeping Max is basically a one year rental at 10 million. I could see the Twins keeping Kepler unless they get an offer they couldn't refuse.
  11. I love the picture of Lewis and Lee manning the left side. I'm very disappointed I will never be able to see them do it barring an injury to Correa. I would have been a match made in heaven.
  12. I do think Alonso is possibly the missing link to making a run at the World Series next year. That said, Emm-Rod is a quality centerfielder and that is a critical position going forward unless you think Buxton can shake the injury bug ..
  13. Not to mention above average speed as a. Orner outfielder and 24 assists in 2 years. I'm rooting for the kid ..
  14. Surely there is a city or 2 Correa would agree getting traded to. We could offer to overnight him Juicy Lucie's free of charge .
  15. I would agree 100% if we weren't cap-strapped this season. Not tendering Farmer would go a long way to help rectify this. I won't complain if we do resign Farmer but with Lee close to a call up we would HAVE to be planning to trade Polanco, which I think we will.
  16. Castro, I believe, is a better defender and is coming off possibly a breakout season, but the fact he is a switch hitter puts the nail in the coffin. We are loaded with left-handed bats.
  17. With the young hitting talent on the current roster, all we need is the following 2024 Martin, Lee, Camargo, Severino 2025 Rodriguez 2026 Jenkins, Wonokur (with Scoobel, Keaschall, and Miller at AAA to call up in case of injuries) My big concern is the dearth of available pitching prospects. That's where we should spend any free coins jiggling around in the owners' pockets.
  18. I remember going to see Cedar Rapids play Peoria at the beginning of the season and reported the team was loaded with talent. Bodes well for the team two to three years from now. Miller is young and has plenty of time for his hitting to come around. Most players get moved from short to second or third because their defense is not good enough to play in the bigs. 'good for him ..
  19. Bottom line losing any of the player left unprotected would not be devastating in the long run.
  20. The biggest travesty last year was to stick with Gallo over Larnach. This was his prove it year and it got short circuited. Everyone knows it takes 1000 abates or so to adapt to major league caliber pitching. I think the Twins gave up on him too early. The ONLY reason I would want the Twins to trade Larnach would be to give Larnach a change to prove himself in the majors. But I would prefer we give him a real shot in the bigs if we trade Kepler.
