  1. I really appreciate these posts about the minor league action and players. I have gleaned so much additional knowledge from the game analyses and from the various posters. Thanks to everyone who has their fingers on the pulse of what is happening. PS-I have been following Rosario for awhile now. I'm not sure why...maybe it's his first name, which I've never heard before (but it may be a common Hawai'ian name for all I know) or his last name, which evokes memories of days gone by.
  2. I think Seth nailed it. He just needs to be a bit more patient. He's not the type of hitter who is going to excel by offering at pitches out of the zone.
  3. Although I mentioned this on the wrong thread, I feel there is no reason to keep Gordon. There are Nick Gordon clones available here and there. He is taking up a spot that could be filled with a more productive option. Bring up Julien. His OBP will be much higher in the long run and you don't lose that much flexibility.
  4. Good question. Maybe I was woozy...it was 2:00 am here, so that's my excuse. (But since you asked, I'm OK with letting him go. Some folks may think there is a higher ceiling on Gordon, but I have strong doubts. He's an impatient hitter and what we need from him is just the opposite.)
  5. DFA? I know it's harsh and I love Gordon's hustle but I dunno, he's just an automatic out.
  6. Demoting Gordon is needed. You lose nothing with Julien except perhaps some of the glove skills (but not that much) and you gain a much more patient hitter. Gordon is flailing. He needs playing time.
  7. I'm sure glad we've faced a lot of those Cy Young candidates already...
  8. LOL! Thanks for covering for my supreme laziness of not searching it myself. I'll say this to the Royals... we're coming for ya!
  9. Look at the BAs. When Gallo is your most consistent hitter, then the Twins are in trouble because they will simply walk him as they have been doing. We must have the worst BA in the league at this point, don't we?
  10. They have this rule now if a reliever comes into a game and pitches poorly but manages to finish the inning and his team rallies in the bottom of the inning and takes the lead and holds it that official scorers can opt to give the W to a different pitcher. Why isn't the reverse true? (It seems quite harsh to give Mae-ken the loss after two innings when Pagan imploded.)
  11. I was all in on Gallo, so I'm excited to see him blasting away. It's kind of fun to have a guy who makes contact less often, but when he does, the ball jumps off of his bat. SSS but the lineup just feels more potent with him on the field.
  12. That was the worst the Twins have played thus far IMHO. After the Twins scored two in the 10th, I was quite surprised it was Moran, who has not done much so far. I actually hoped it would be Pagan. In any case, the Twins were not sharp in the field. Even that fly ball by Verdugo was weird. Kepler jogged over that way nonchalantly, like the ball was going to be 30 rows up in foul territory when clearly he could have made a play even if he thought it was going foul. Maybe he didn't see it well? That was just one of the examples. Boston tried to give us the game, but we refused once too often.
  13. Fair enough, but I thought he wasn't used correctly here. Maybe that is also what you are saying. He was always going to be the guy (closer), and Molitor really didn't give him much of chance to be that guy. It was one of the reasons that I started to agree with a lot of Twins fans that Molitor was also not the guy. (I was all in on Molitor and I think I held out too long.)
  14. You made a starryeyed fan! Nice, but I still think we got shafted. We lost all those years of Pressley's elite skills.
  15. I would hardly call Maeda 'disgruntled.' He was told he would be a starter, which he had been for his entire career, but the Dodgers relegated him to the bullpen because they were flush with starters. He never openly complained about this, and did his job admirably, but when asked, he said that he wanted to return to being a starter, which he preferred, so there was mutual interest on both sides for the trade. At this point, the trade is pretty much even. It would have been a blowout in the Twins favor had Maeda not had arm troubles--a wildcard for pitching trades. (Or sometimes not such a wildcard when teams have an inkling that a pitcher's arm might be suspect--something that has betrayed the Twins a number of times, and which is the primary reason I was against the Arraez trade.) In any case, the arm problems Maeda had were just unfortunate, but the upside is that the final judgment can hardly be made at this point, and it is debatable who has won. It's not like the Pressley fiasco, which only starry-eyed fans could defend and still irritates me even mentioning it.
  16. I agree that the umps will be disinterested in Cole tomorrow, but Baldelli should ask for a hand check after the first out he records. They won't do anything probably, but it will tweak the Yankee fans and maybe upset Cole and Boone.
  17. Actually, I thought the pitch to Volpe was pretty good. Sometimes a hitter just locks on to a decent pitch. Varland didn't flinch after his one 'bad' pitch to Judge. He just settled in and kept attacking the zone. Kudos to him.
  18. Another big plus has been Buxton's patience at the plate over the last two games. Those walks have been critically important!
  19. I'd like to see the Twins experiment with a six-man rotation, especially considering that Baldelli seems very concerned about arm fatigue.
  20. Yesterday's game was a nice poke in the eye, but today's game was much more significant to me. One of the biggest games for the Twins in the last 25 years (I'm not being a bit hyperbolic here). How many times have we come back against the Yankees while playing in the Death Star over the past quarter century? Contrarily, how many times have the Twins just given the game back to the Yankees in the bottom of the ninth? Or how many times have the Twins coughed up a three or four run lead over the final innings? Something to note here: One walk over the last 18 innings issued to the Yankees. Pitchers have to attack the Yankees' hitters. Great win. Now let's take the series outright! PS-Thanks to Carlos Correa for his fearless approach while in the Death Star. It looks like it is starting to rub off!!
  21. 1) Twins pitchers should take a lesson from Ryan. Just go after those Yankee hitters. 2) Also, I hope that Julien can stick. I love his approach. 3) Honestly, if I had heard the score was 9-0 when I flipped on the TV or turned on the radio, I would have turned it back off thinking the worst had happened. 4) Let's win this series, OK?
  22. It's great to get 2 of 3 from the Chisox with very little clutch hitting and a ton of Ks (38 in 3 games!!). The pitching and fielding have been amazing. We're gonna have to hit better against the Death Star. Are we getting anyone back on the field for the series? (Highlight: Julien gets walk number one in MLB career.)
  23. Agreed. Teams that play bad defense tend to lose tight games. The Twins have been pretty good so far on D overall. I think this is often overlooked as a factor for wins. Miranda has been serviceable at 3rd and we've been fine at SS. Second was a little shakey with Julien, but it could be jitters. All other positions have been fine or even great. To my knowledge, they haven't thrown any games away as of yet.
  24. I have been very critical of Baldelli's use of pitchers, but today he left Lopez in to pitch the 8th, and I was super happy about it because Lopez was really on top of his game. Lopez has started the year by shredding hitters (but Arraez has also been shredding--especially in the game against the Phillies). So far, it is a win-win for Miami and MN. As for the hitting, I am still very concerned. .228 with RISP--ranking 25th? Luckily two of the teams with a lower BA with RISP are in the Central. We need Correa to start driving in some of those runners.
