  1. I think the sentimental favorite is Lewis, but Correa saved both games with his defense and won Game 2 with his bat, so he gets the nod.
  2. Good hitting and good pitching (especially concerning BBs) are needed for sure, but the defense simply cannot give up extra outs. Polanco needs to be moved to 2nd, DHed or used as a pinch-hitter. He just doesn't look comfortable at 3rd and it eventually will cost the Twins (I'm afraid).
  3. I remember the first game in that Detroit series. I had to go to a sports bar to watch it because we couldn't get the game in San Diego on the regular channels and I had to pick up a friend of mine at the airport later, so I also wanted to be closer to the airport. I was literally the only Twins fan in the place, and it was a VERY hostile and drunk group. I only remember that the final score was 8-1 (I think) and that Viola was pitching (I think) and that one of the announcers said following the game (Brett Musberger I think) said that now Detroit would need to win one additional game to clinch the series and that I was fortunate not to leave that bar on a stretcher (I know that).
  4. Probably some would give Lewis the MVP for this series, but for me it was Correa for his defense alone. He was just too smooth in the field. Whenever it is hit his way, there is a sigh of relief from me. I thought Gray looked a bit tired in the 5th, so I was not surprised to see him pulled. He didn't seem upset...at least from his mannerisms. Schneider, on the other hand, pulled Berrios too early. (He wasn't happy as you could see...) He had his good stuff, The Twins were not getting good cuts against him. Despite the matchup thing, I would never like to pull a pitcher who is dealing. Kikuchi wasn't bad, but it changed the whole atmosphere. Kepler's grounder was hit perfectly in the hole and was bobbled, so he likely would have been out if it was cleanly handled and then the second walk was issued. The rest was history. I have to eat some crow. I have been a critic of Jax. I thought he was overrated, but he proved me wrong--twice. My favorite play was the perfectly timed pick-off move--very Tom Kellyish. I do have one small point of contention. Can we end the Polanco at 3rd experiment before it costs us a game? He has yet to record an out there. The ball hit hard to his left is a pretty standard play for most 3rd basemen. He is not getting good movement on plays, and we have confirmed that his throwing arm in not up to the task. Clearly, he is not comfortable at 3rd. If we keep messing around with this experiment, it will end up biting the Twins. I have been happy to watch the Twins twice in two days. (Thank you management for bringing Maeda to the Twins.) Go Twins!!
  5. Yes, Farmer or Castro at 3rd...Polanco on the bench. He can be used as a pinch-hitter.
  6. To me, that was the play of the game. (Polanco shouldn't be in the field. Bring him in as a pinch-hitter or something like that.)
  7. There are Twins fans in Colorado, such as Bill on this list. IMHO, this is a disservice to those who go out to the games. I do give Baldelli praise when it is due and criticism when it is due (for example, the way he managed today's game). I'm not just on an endless whine as some would suggest. In any case, it's moot now.
  8. This is comparing apples and oranges. Call-ups in September are trying to win games. Anyway, it's all moot now.
  9. Nice! We could watch the game here in Japan. Hats off to Baldelli. I thought he managed the game very well. I thought if there was going to be a hitting hero, it would be Jeffers, but what a nice surprise that it was Lewis. That guy just keeps overperforming. Oh, and thanks for mentioning defense Mr. Trefz because that is what won this game as much as any pitching and hitting. Correa's throw to the plate was tremendous, and Donny Barrels of all people with the great stop on Springer. It's a relief, and I think we can actually beat Toronto.
  10. Yeah, but if I paid 80 bucks per seat and took my two sons to the game and bought a bunch of food to boot (spending probably 350 dollars in total), I would surely hope one of the teams doesn't intentionally throw the game. The game is 'supposed' to be for the fans and one would expect a reasonable attempt by both teams to win. Why even play the game if you intend to dump it if the game is close? Just forfeit the game if you are so worried about getting someone injured. I can't get behind this strategy at all. (You don't have to play everyone, but at least make a moderate attempt to win the game.)
  11. The playoffs are different from the regular season. Managers that play the same cards in the same way they have all season, tend to do worse in the playoffs. 1. Bochy 2. Baker 3. Hyde (it's my guess based on how he has handled the Orioles) 4. Cash (he hasn't really won anything yet despite having a few awesome teams) 5, Baldelli/Schneider I don't want to put Baldelli at 5, but until a Baldelli team wins a playoff game, I am afraid he sits there at the bottom. I'd like to think he has gained insight but we will see.
  12. Hear, hear! The fans pay to see the teams put in a reasonably competitive attempt to win each and every game.
  13. I guess Lopez got gassed again, just as he did in the previous start. Let's hope he gets enough rest until the playoff games commence. I hope that it was just messing around. Duran is much more reliable than any of the pitchers who followed him. I certainly would rather see Duran in the 9th if we're clinging to a one run lead than Jax.
  14. As for the winning, they have been, and that demonstrates confidence in the players and the coaches. Nevertheless, adding an arm or a bat at the deadline demonstrates a willingness to players and fans that you are willing to try to improve even more--let's take this team even farther than we dreamed. That actually matters a lot IMHO. It might not work out, but it might also really help out (Baylor/Stewart).
  15. True, but Maeda had the best start of any pitcher on the Twins in the last playoff adventure. The Twins threw the game away unfortunately.
  16. Let's see if Baldelli has learned some things from his playoff experiences. What Tom Kelly understood was that each game was to be treated like there was no tomorrow, so if someone was pitching well, you just left the guy in. He looked at every angle. (Let's jam Kirk Gibson in every at bat on every pitch. Let's steal bases like crazy even though we haven't done so all season. Let's try a pickoff move at third in the most intense moment in the game. Let's hit the ball to the opposite field against Doyle Alexander. Let's let Jack pitch the 10th even though he's reached the limit in pitches., etc.) Most importantly, don't worry about what's going to happen three days later. This is something Gardenhire never understood IMHO. ...oh and make sure your best defensive team is on the field when protecting a small lead in the late innings.
  17. I agree about Varland. He looked super confident out there. I wanted him to pitch two innings actually.
  18. Amazingly, this is the first game I was able to watch this year. I suspect, they had in mind that Ohtani-san would be in the game and there was a chance Maeda-san would be pitching. It was fun to watch and a bit nerve-wracking.
