  1. I also think the Twins will shop Polanco. He has a lot of value, but it is getting a bit clogged up on the infield with more infielders on the horizon
  2. I guess you don't understand how my brain works. I don't want ANY team to get an advantage over the other. I am not a 'homer' just trying to get the Twins a win...I want balls to be called balls and strikes to be called strikes--nothing more and nothing less. (Bad calls do not even out and that affects the game. The umps favored the Astros in all of the games save one. Even against the Blue Jays, I would complain about the umpiring even though the Twins won.) BTW, I don't even deny that Kepler should have probably swung because the pitch was only about 1/4 of an inch outside; however, when he didn't, the correct call should have been made and wasn't.
  3. I agree with your assessment; although, Julien was also the victim of balls called strikes at least twice that I saw,
  4. Wow 😲! Nicely laid out.
  5. I saw the pitch and checked with GameDay, which confirmed my belief. The pitch was framed beautifully by Maldonado, so if you want to claim the beauty of the game may be affected, that's fine.
  6. Certainly the Pressley trade made me the angriest of any trade. It was interesting how almost as soon as Pressley walked into Houston, they handed him the ball and said, "You're the closer." They have never wavered from that position and have been reaping the benefits ever since. The Twins seemed unwilling to be patient with Pressley. He had a couple of bad outings as the closer and was quickly designated to the Ron Davis job, which clearly frustrated him. (I saw him pitch against a poor Angels team and was stunned that the catcher kept calling for breaking balls. I'll never forget that game because he came in for one inning and out of the first 16 pitches, 14 were breaking balls. He ended up walking one and then after about five straight breaking balls in a row, he happened to hang one to someone who had like one home run on the year and was hitting like .210. I shook my head because clearly his stuff was dynamic. He then struck out Trout on three straight fast balls.)
  7. It was an exciting game, but I confess that I was irritated that Baldelli pulled Ryan after two. He made one bad pitch. I am not a fan of the bullpen game--I never was and will never be I guess. At least the Twins didn't let the game get out of hand, and we finally won a game and a series. (I am not of the mind that the better team necessarily won in Round 2, however.) I also am again disturbed by bad balls and strikes calls. Bring in the Robocops ASAP! The next big question is, 'Who will be around next year?' I suspect the Twins will not have Gray, Gallo or Maeda (the latter sadly, and in my case, seflishly). I predict they will try to trade Polanco because they are somewhat flush with infielders and Polanco is a good hitter who could bring in some good talent. How about guys like Solano, Farmer and Castro? Who will be DFA'd? It could be a very active and interesting winter and spring...
  8. Those lineout plays are often bang-bang. Just one step and your goose is cooked. I don't blame Julien one bit.
  9. IMHO, this is the 'pitch' that sunk the Twins in Game 3. https://www.mlb.com/astros/video/sonny-gray-in-play-no-out-to-yordan-alvarez-xb4y3v
  10. Indeed, important calls in any game almost never even out; one team inevitably suffers more from bad calls than the other, so fairness should be sought as much as can possibly expected. Kepler got called out on a pitch that was outside for the final out of today's game. He either walks there or strikeouts. The Twins are down by one with Correa coming up. Would he drive Kepler in? We'll never know the answer to that question because it was taken from us by the umpire.
  11. The guy is a behemoth! I'm wondering when he is actually going to connect. As for the last two blasts, I thought he slightly missed the 'sweet spot' and they both left the yard with ease.
  12. If Kirilloff is at first tomorrow, I want to see him like this:
  13. IMHO, the platooning can be debated...the defense cannot. Although we cannot play the 'what if' game effectively, the first inning looks far different with one on and two outs vs, two on and one out...
  14. Maybe, but Ober's pitches looked dead--no movement at all. Yes, he could throw a strike, but those pitches were coming in flat with almost no break at all. (At least Maeda was getting some movement on his pitches,) I predict Ryan will have good stuff tomorrow.
  15. I'm not sure if we can bring it back to Houston, but I think Ryan will pitch very well tomorrow. We need clean plays in the field and a pinch of clutch hitting.
  16. Man is that Alvarez strong. I swear the last two home runs he hit, he didn't hit the ball flush.
  17. Skip the platooning. Kirilloff needs a game off. As Aggies7 has mentioned he has had blunders in the field, and this time it cost the Twins dearly. That first inning looks completely different if Kirilloff makes that play. Pitching and DEFENSE win games in the playoffs. The Twins cannot afford to give up outs like that.
  18. Waiting for Buxton is like that scene in the Poltergeist. The hall just keeps getting longer and longer and it seems like we will never get to the goal...so maybe next season and maybe not, but certainly not this season...
  19. The platooning worked because it was Farmer and Solano today, who seem to be much more comfortable at the plate in this intensive setting. But let's be honest, Wallner and especially Kirilloff have not been productive as hitters; only Julien has been fine as a platooner from the left side. That's why I would prefer Farmer as a starter in the next game.
  20. Yes, but my Japanese wife is also my friend and doesn't like to see unexplained spending....hahaha
  21. The game I could watch this morning was Rangers and Orioles (that Bochy is one clever coach). It was interesting because Schmoltz who was the color commentator said that Bochy completely ignored the righty lefty matchup thing simply because Cody Bradford was pitching so well in relief. I guess, everyone assumed that Bradford would pitch one inning and come out, but because he looked impressive, Bochy just left him and was rewarded with 3 2/3 innings of stellar relief. He waited until Bradford tired and then replaced him. Analytics are fine and important, but what is more important is to sense the atmosphere of the game. Three cheers to Baldelli for leaving Lopez in the game.
  22. The Twins win was big. According to the strike zone provided by MLB.com, the home plate umpire was squeezing Lopez, but not Valdez and we still were able to produce some big time hits.
  23. Thanks! I'm not too worried about Julien. I think with Julien, what you see is what you get more-or-less...Wallner and Kirilloff are the ones who have to really step up their games IMHO.
  24. This is great. I wanted Farmer in Game 2 regardless of who was on the mound because Kirilloff was looking a bit overwhelmed yesterday. I said to myself (and probably half of Twins Nation) that losing two in a row in Houston would result in a very quick exit, but now, the Twins are in this fight. I couldn't watch either of the games here in Japan, but I'll be cheering on Wednesday (Tuesday evening in US) albeit delayed (I have to work). I couldn't see Julien's hit on any highlight reel...
