  1. I'm with you on this. But it's a tough sell for some. Kind of an you can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket type of thing. Of course, I'd like to have Steer, CES and Hajjar available to the Twins. But I'd also rather have a heathy Mahle over Bundy, Archer, Hower Baily, J.A. Happ and so on. Unfortunately, the healthy part didn't work out...
  2. Yeah, I got a bit long winded and spit out a bunch of Baseball Refence stuff to justify it. All I really needed to say is Taylor sure has been good. I wonder if the FO would try to keep him around longer then is season.
  3. I doubt I'm in the majority but the guy in the 1st picture may be the most important add of the off season. Pushed into a full time roll 92 OPS+ (per baseball reference) that's with who we expected to play CF hitting OPS+ of 127 per Baseball references. What's between the field and the AB. +120? Seems like the OF defense is worth an investment. My point is Taylor has been good to VERY good and short term and long term (3-4 seasons) that may be a wise investment.
  4. Tough break..How about a Paddack extension for Tyler? Would make sense with the prospect investment the Twins made. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
  5. Just too many puzzle pieces missing right now... Anything that may get a few of the player rolling I'd be all for.
  6. 3 errors in a close game will cost most teams. When's the last time Gallo and Miranda had a hit in the same game? Varland looked pretty good. I'm not into the whole "if Arraez was still with the team thing"....To me that's like saying if I had just bought that Micrsoft stock when I graduated high school...Whether you want to or not you're going to have to move on. I have.
  7. I'm going to look for a 2-1 win in this series and the next...Only because it would fit the...this is a good team...followed immediately by...these guys look terrible...seesaw this season has been so far...
  8. Good to have solid depth for once. Bad to be two deep into it in the 1st week of May. Would like to have seen the Twins work something out with Gray but his great start may have caused that ship to sail. Mahle...Jeez just can't catch a break. Liked that trade at the time. I guess they can't all work out. I wanted to mention an article on Fan Graphs had imo a pretty glowing take on Luis Varland. Giving him a future Value of 50. The same as Lewis, Julien and Festa. Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Paddack and Varland looks like a better starting 5 then we've had in any recent season, besides this one.
  9. You could argue either way about Kepler. Sure, a young player is cheaper and may have more upside. They could also struggle, underperform and possibly cost the team games. The problem I have is none of our OF prospects have taken a roster spot and ran with it. None have been league average over a period of time. Until one does Kepler should be our starting RFer. Including next season's option. On a team in 1st place I'll take the more consistent Kep over the rollercoaster we've had with a young player.
  10. There was some good luck involved here. The error by Anderson seem to break things open. An extra out in the 12th innings tends to equal a loss. Some of those IBB were on Duran and Lopez.
  11. Honestly none of these scenarios are ideal. Larnach is the most likely Imo. Meaning AK has performed so well in AAA that he earns the spot. One last thing he needs to play every game for the Saints for a couple weeks before that should happen. Castro is probably safe until Farmer is ready to rejoin the team.
  12. I get the service time manipulation angle, but to this point I have not seen the FO due that to any other players. So that seem highly unlikely to me. My opinion is that he needs to build up stamina or a track record before they should alter the 26 man to get him back in the bigs. A couple weeks of playing well and every game in AAA would be the hurdle I'd like to see crossed before I'd make a change. That being said if there was an injury to a position player, he would be my 1st player called up.
  13. I'm bias, as a Polanco fan, so take it with a grain of salt. What a difference having him in the lineup makes. No-hitter or 8-6 counts the same when the regular season ends. Kirilloff is hitting the leather off the ball in AAA..I get wanting to call him (Kirilloff) up from a few of the other posters, but I agree with H2o. Let's relax on the WHY and focus on the when. Unfortunately, an injury to a position player will happen...I think that will be the when. Until then he has to keep earning it. When that happens, he has to keep earning it.
  14. Hope Mahle is ok and maybe just needs (at most) to skip a start in the rotation. He's been pretty good so far this season. The rotation lines up nicely for a strong series. Keep the runs coming offense.
  15. Kepler is hitting .292 with a .750 OPS in the last 7 games. Correa .200/.539 OPS..Vazquez .125/.317 OPS. I don't Kep is part of the offensive woes at the moment. Looks like Meada is headed to the IL. Ober has earned that spot IMO. But the waiting period would say Varland. Bull Pen. Headrick was outstanding last night but got optioned...IDK who you fill his spot with?? Alcara? Balazovic? I don't see any arms on the 40 man that I believe would make it through waivers to add a none roster pitcher to the 40 man.
  16. I'll go with Twins take 3 out of 4. The Royals are bad, but still an MLB team. Then follow this series with a struggling even worse White Sox and the Guardian get away games at Boston and Yankees. Great time for a win streak.
  17. #5 seems a bit high for any of these. Comp or 2nd round maybe. I'd like to see Max Clark or Langford @5. IDK about Dollander..He nowhere near as dominate so far this season. Skenes I think will be gone by #5 if he continues what he's done so far. Hoping for a catcher or two in the 1st 3 rounds.
  18. I'm beginning to think Balazovic may end up in the same category as Winder and a possible middle reliever as well. His walks/Whip are a bit higher than I'd like to see but if he can stay healthy..Maybe he's an option as well.
  19. Nice to see Polanco getting off to a decent start in his return series. MAYBE..just maybe the offense will pick up as the projected starters return from injury. Pitching was outstanding, as far as I can tell from the box score. 1 game at a time. 1 game up of Cleveland. They get the Rockies next followed by road games against the Red Sox and Yankees. We get the Yankees @ home then @ KC and White Sox. who are struggling. Good time go on a run. Go Twins!
  20. This is something I've been wondering about as well. Sometimes it feels like they are snake oil salesmen...
  21. Polanco and Lewis are the ones I expect to make the biggest impact when they're ready. Kirilloff coming off a career threating injury, seem like setting us up for disappointment, so I'm going to give him a pass on this season. Has a great year, great bonus, spends a long time in AAA, ok that seems possible. Ober will get his chance when one of the starting 5 needs a breather (hopefully not injury related) Lee hopefully gets a Sept call up. Polanco and Lee are the two I think they make room for however they can. The others are going to have to wait on an injury or perform so well that they force their way onto the roster. I might slide Julien to the (injury/ performance) list as well.
  22. "The Twins are betting on Lopez to continue his breakout performance while staying healthy. Do you feel the Twins should hand out more long-term contracts for pitchers? Is Lopez a good long-term investment? Leave a COMMENT and start the discussion." Seems like it a crap shoot when factoring in health on any available pitcher and a 4-year deal minimizes the risk about as much as you can hope for to get a high-end pitcher locked up. So yes, I think Lopez is a good to really good investment for the cub. Sonny Gray seems to me to be a smart extension if he's interested. Today, based on what he's done so far this season, something in the 2 years 30-40 mil range. I'm a fan of Meada and Mahle, but they are not performing like the others and would be a little gun shy about them right now. If they go out and have a career year the QO is still an option. Although neither may accept, at least you get a draft pick back to compensate for the prospects moved. (Mainly about Mahle on that) One last thing, like this season with a fair share of prospects looking for a spot on the MLB roster it may be in the team's best interest to have more openings for the guys in AA and AAA this season. If you're looking at 8 deep in starters. One more extension makes sense. two not so much.
  23. I'd like to see that as well. It would make the prospect traded a moot point imo.
  24. Wow this is great news! Loosing Luis was painful but Pablo has been great, and 4 more years makes the trade sting a lot less.
  25. WHAT sticky stuff?? Oh I forgot to wash my hands. I'll do better next inning...
