    We're going to be stuck with Correa for three years if his batting continues like this.

    Hmmm… kind of think that the point was to increase ticket sales short term, make it appear that the Twins would compete (as was said before the season began), give some time for either Lewis or Martin to prove themselves, and then trade off Correa when it became apparent the Twins wouldn't be in contention this year. Correa, though, by not hitting is doing his best to make sure that the Twins have him for the full three year contract.

    At last, the elephant in the room we've all been ignoring has finally been addressed.

    Convert him to a pitcher. No hits after 19 at bats would look fantastic.

    Yeah, I figured that Winder was held in reserve all weekend to go long relief for whichever starter, if any, faltered. But, so far, starting pitching has been okay. All four of those games were winnable.

    I'm under on most because I think the front office will be sellers in June/July even if the team comes strong out of the gates. Hard to get enthused if you're on a team run like that.

    Buck needs to perform well and play several more seasons of injury-free seasons before we can even begin to compare. But… er… Yes…?

    See if the Padres want Rooker. Probably not, but you never know.

    Yeah, they need starting pitching. Due to lockout and rescheduling, not many off days for them this year in the early goings.

    This is about the one year overpay I was suggesting for Story. Definitely need to know if the Twins can trade him or not.

    If you think you can get Story for $22MM a year for 5 years, just offer him something like $35MM for one year. He can get a longer contract next year when things have settled down. Twins can use him at SS, even trade him in July if need be for prospects. Gives us three months to assess Lewis and Martin, and gives the illusion that the front office really wanted to compete this year.

    Which is why I think it would be a savvy move by the Twins to throw some outrageous money at either Carlos Correa or Trevor Story for one year, something like 1.5x what they're looking for… but for only one year. Sell it to the player as chance for the player to work on their long-range contract during the year or in the next off season, which should be quite a bit more stable than this year was. This would give the Twins • a shortstop • a chance to spend the money that they didn't • more time to evaluate Lewis and Martin • a really great trade chip at the All-Star Break if their season completely sucks

    Injuries and a COVID-shortened season and lock-out and no real MLB paycheck to help make up for it = The Big Suck.

    Twins are betting on the season not starting until July 4th.

    I kept thinking that Kennys Vargas might have actually developed if he had been given more consistent playing time.

    I like this quite a bit. If a player is on the 40-man roster, they should be making at least minimum major-league salary, and as soon as they're placed on the 40-man, they start accruing major-league service time, even if they're still in A ball.

    That's the worst part, those young pitchers again missing valuable time. Or the worst part is using THAT as an excuse for not developing pitching. It's one of those.

    Let him DH and play some 1st/3rd as needed in 2022. Hope he gets hot, then trade him to a contender since the Twins will need more pitching in 2023 after not having enough in 2022.

    Well… I suspect that they will get plenty of chances to test their skills.

    Yeah, I think the Twins would benefit to be more like the Rays in player evaluation and development--and better!--since they also could occasionally spend big money for a star player or two for post season pushes. Alas… the Twins as we know them now rarely do either.
