  1. I would think the plan is to trade Gibson in July. Unless… he's been sucking it up. Or… the rest of the team hasn't been (and Kyle's been good), then they try to acquire some help to make a half-hearted run at the Division. They won't want to pay Gibson any real money unless the team is ready to win in 2020, so expect a trade, probably. Too many things have to go right for the Twins to compete in 2019. Still… you never know. If enough of the core players do well early in 2019, and if the AL Central is up for grabs, then the Twins try to make something happen. If too few of the core players are successful, then the Twins trade off who they can (good and bad players alike) to build up the "next" core (for 2021–2022).
  2. I've been wanting the Twins to try Kepler at 1B for about a year and a half.
  3. You want to truly utilize Analytics? Then break the mold and utilize a shifting strategy of managers—plural. You can have one Manager as an Opener, call in another one when you need to make an important Relief Pitcher choice, and so on. Put the Shift On and send Baldelli to the showers after going through the order once, let the "Wonder Boys" manage remotely for an inning or two, and then bring in Baldelli. And so on. If nothing else, it would mess with the minds of whoever watched.
  4. I like Meija. If healthy, he should be an above-average pitcher. Right now I'm not certain if he'll be a starter or a reliever. He's probably best suited right now as our long man with an occasional spot start, or in conjunction with/or as an Opener.
  5. I'd open up the checkbook and acquire Jeurys Familia. He earned nearly $8MM last year on a one-year contract. I am a little hesitant, though, because of the domestic abuse cloud surrounding him.
  6. Hopefully we'll get to see Rosario, Astudillo, and Escobar again in 2019 on the Twins.
  7. The Twins could also take on other teams' big-salary players in exchange for also getting some additional talent from those teams along with the costly veterans. When you have money and there's not a lot of choices to spend it on, this can be an intriguing option. Mainly, I hope the Twins package up several of their AAA and AAAA players and "trade up" for a better younger player or two from teams who are struggling more than we are. (You know, in the same way that we have traded off our players in the past.). Keep our best prospects and get someone like Whit Merrifield from KC. Trade bulk for quality. Get Whit and Byron in a stolen base contest and good things will happen.
  8. This. People seem to forget they fired Doug Mientkiewicz already.
  9. I do hope the Twins manage to retain Astudillo.
  10. I suspect very few of the Twins prospects starters/relievers used in the bigs this year and last are going to make it. They are okay, but they are the okay-sort of pitchers that the Twins normally send out there year after year because we don't have better. But here's the deal: due to trades last year (mainly) we have more of them than usual. It's time for the Twins to "trade up." Move three or more of them for a Number 3 pitcher.
  11. What was up with KC's Gordon's uniform? I think it all four games he had a similar (nigh identical?) grass/dirt smear across the name on his back. Seemed to happen very early each game and felt (to me anyway) like he was deliberately smearing it up. Maybe I'm crazy.
  12. Nothing against Castro personally. But I wouldn't mind if the Twins moved him this off season and we went with Garver/Astudillo behind the plate next year.
  13. I had to shut the game off early. Well… not so much had to as chose to. Twins have been playing some bad, ugly baseball these last three games.
  14. Even with the loss, it was a fun game to watch. Willians Astudillo has quickly become my favorite player and plenty enough reason to watch this team in these final weeks.
  15. Great outing by Odorizzi tonight. And the Twins beat the Yankees two games in a row. Love it. It's been awhile.
  16. It's nice to see the Twins beat up on the Yankees for a change.
  17. I've liked Astudillo since seeing him do that "blind" pickoff throw to 1B in Spring Training. I'm glad that he's getting a chance to play. I would hope that there's some room for him in 2019.
  18. I suspect a dog pile for Mauer is a needless chance at further concussion problems.
  19. Move Polanco to 2B. Pick up Adeiny Hechavarria for SS.
  20. Rooker has a chance. The others will have a chance in 2020.
