Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Bailey Ober
Doctor Wu replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can't imagine the Twins would even consider trading Ober this season, and I sure hope they don't. If we seriously want to compete for a pennant next season we need Ober to be one of our starters. As others have suggested, he may still be able to ramp it up another gear and be even better. Even trading him for a power bat or prospects doesn't even appeal to me. We need his arm in the rotation. -
Good examples. I love the idea of Prielipp being in the starting rotation at some point, but if it truly looks like his arm is healthy now, I think some bullpen action this coming season might be a good thing. I realize he's only pitched a scant number of innings the past two years, but I don't want to see him languishing in the minors for too much longer either.

Well, here we go into another new front office adventure. In a situation like this, I'd normally say "Fasten your seat belts" ... but I still expect this winter will be a very boring and lackluster one for the Twins. No idea how good this guy will be or how qualified he is, but wishing him lots and lots and buckets of good luck!

It looks like De Andrade won't play in this league, even though he is on the roster. Any reports on his status? Is he still injured?

I agree with both you and Bean5302; neither Walker nor Rodriguez truly profiles as a plus Center Fielder. They both certainly seem capable of doing the job if needed, but probably not their ideal position. In the meantime, I'm sure we'll still see Buxton patrolling CF for a couple of more years at least, of course with his fragile body permitting.

Yes, Brendan McKay has had a rough ride thus far. But he WAS a top 5 pick, and projected as a possible 2-way player at that time too. Still an intriguing player, but only if he can stay healthy.

Falvey speaks to reporters at MLB GM meetings
Doctor Wu replied to tony&rodney's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Paddack was the guy who I thought, or hoped, would really step up and shine last season. He was far enough past recovering from TJ surgery, and he seemed to have the fire and determination to prove why he had been such a promising pitcher with San Diego. But, alas, that obviously didn't happen. His season was by no means a disaster, just cut short again by another injury. -
Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Royce Lewis
Doctor Wu replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Exactly the way I feel. Absolutely no real need to trade him, and due to his injury history and poor second half his trade value will not be that high. And as Blyleven2011 noted, Lewis is a potential all-star who should be able to play at an elite level if fully healthy. Whatever caused the late season decline should hopefully be an easy fix. Whatever the case, keep him! -
I can't remember an off-season when I felt so thoroughly depressed and feeling negative about the Twins. I don't expect any impactful free agent signings, nor do I foresee any sort of trade that will help the team or excite the fans. Hey, I hope the front office proves me wrong, but I just can't get excited about what will, or will not, happen during the next 3 months.

Gotta agree with that idea. Paddack still has some value to the Twins, much more, I think, than we could get back in return with a trade.

Former Twins, Where are they now? 2024 edition
Doctor Wu replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Good memory. I had forgotten about that ill-timed injury. -
I'd be shocked if Santana got the award, but Castro seems to have a good chance to claim it for the Utility category. No single player truly stands out among those three finalists.

That sums it up for me too. Nothing of real value was lost, but Severino had been such a highly touted prospect for the past few years, that it's still a bit of a jolt that he's off the 40-man roster. Then again as noted by others, he doesn't have a clear path to the big club and there are doubts about how he would do. But heck, maybe some team will pick him in the Rule 5 draft.

I liked Refsnyder too. Like you said, he's a good versatile player. He had a very good year in Boston last season so that's cool that they are bringing him back. He's bounced around too much (too many teams) during his career so I'm sure a bit of stability will be welcome for him. -

Doctor Wu replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I was thinking about free agent pitchers today, when one name popped into my head for some reason: Jose De Leon. If you recall, he very briefly pitched for the Twins in 2023 before he was injured and had to have TJ surgery. At the end of that season he elected to become a free agent but to my knowledge he didn't pitch anywhere last season due to the time needed to recuperate from the surgery. He wasn't lights-out during his short time with the Twins but he wasn't awful either. He's now 32 years old, so I'm not sure how effective he can be, especially after a long layoff, but he was always an intriguing pitcher (back when he was a young prospect with the Dodgers organization and a topic of trade interest by the Twins). Of course that was many years ago. but still .... might he warrant an invite to spring training or some sort of minor league deal? -

I saw that today, and was only mildly surprised. But what DID surprise me when I read the news was their age. They are both 37 years old. Before I read the article on ESPN I would have guessed that Gibson was a few years younger than that, and Lynn was older. Or maybe it just seems like Lynn has been around forever. -
There are the obvious injury concerns with Stewart and Topa, but I think it's a no-brainer to bring them both back if they appear (somewhat) healthy. Who knows? It's such a roll of the dice with these relief pitchers. But as Fatbat and others have said; a team can never have enough relief pitchers. If the cost isn't much, sign 'em all!

I think the whole "age" thing is a tricky equation. I truly believe that some players can be "ready" for the majors at 19 or 20 years old, while others are better suited to wait until they are 24 or 25. Lots of variables and conditions to consider, but if the player looks ready, don't let the young age hold him back. That said, I don't think Jenkins is quite ready for his debut yet. Maybe if he tears it up in AA to start the year, we might be looking at an August/September callup, but there is no real reason to rush him to the show.

I still have no idea who any of those pitchers are, but encouraging at least to see Rosario having a very good week. What's the story on De Andrade? Will he actually appear in any of the upcoming games?

You are right, Seth. Moran is certainly a player I HAD totally forgotten about. If he's healthy and can contribute to the bullpen that will be a big plus for the Twins next season.

Best Rookie Campaigns by Position: Pitchers
Doctor Wu replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another fun trip back through memory lane. I had totally forgotten about Scott Diamond and that one pretty good season he had with the Twins in 2012 (count me among those who think that year was a very recent memory!). Wasn't he a Rule 5 pickup?- 9 replies

3 Pitching Prospects Who Can Impact the 2025 Twins
Doctor Wu replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I like this idea a lot, But I'm also realistic enough to doubt that the Twins brass would promote Prielipp so quickly, especiallly with so few innings pitched the past two season. But still ...an intriguing idea!- 31 replies

I agree, those three players might be in the mix too. Lewis was the first guy I thought of when I read the article, and I wondered why he wasn't mentioned. Definitely a pitcher to watch this coming season.- 31 replies
