Twins Receiving Trade Inquiries On Carlos Correa

Apparently Boston wants Correa.

Now, I don't want to trade him. I want to try to win with him. So don't shoot the messenger. Just sharing the link.

For me to not despise the Twins for trading him, I'd imagine we would have to get at least Mayer and Teel back, and I don't see Boston wanting to do that. I'm not even certain that's a good deal, but that's what I would need to listen at minimum.

Cory, you don't get that kind of return for such a salaried player.  They probably get someone like Teel back with a few guys whose likelihood of being anything special are tiny.  A couple far-off arms.  Twins would do well to trade Correa for Mayer straight up, but probably no one is giving up their top 5 overall guy for Correa, especially if the guy is a shortstop.  Correa's not likely the answer at short for very long, and Devers is moving to first.

I do think Mayer is not really a top 5 guy, so if the Sox recognize this, I suppose it's possible.  Another possibility would be some of their pitching and a guy like Kristian Campbell, very similar to and a little better at this point than Luke Keaschall.

Hopefully this turns into a bidding war...even if it is just a few teams...

I definitely do NOT want to trade Carlos Correa. If Boston wants him, he costs either Teel or Campbell. Boston won't send more. Correa is expensive.

The Red Sox attempted to sign Soto, but the Mets won that bidding contest. Now the Yankees won the Max Fried auction. Boston needs both a right-handed bat and starting pitching. Things could get interesting. I wonder if Falvey & Sons left to go home after the poor results from the draft order drawing?

I mean. He's not good, but is he really THAT bad? Would he be worth it if he was the next Matt Olson offensively? And on the cheap for a long time...

Correa at shortstop automatically saves a first baseman because all of C$'s throws are so perfect. However, the other 3 infielders are challenging and you remember that Santana was good. Unless the Twins upgrade their defense I don't believe they can have a real weak glove at first base too. It's a tough situation to judge. 

Moving Correa would be draining for Twins fans unless there were also several other moves that created some hope. Hard to lose your best player but if reality crashes for us fans, please allow fate to bring some change for the better to the roster. I'm thinking crazy number of moves, like 5-6 in total.

To put it in perspective, that’s $1.1 million for every five games he sits. Since joining the Twins, he didn’t play shortstop in 136 games, across three seasons, To put that in perspective that’s more games than he played at short in any one of his three seasons in a Twins uniform. 

There’s no question he’s a huge asset to the team, both in the field and at the plate, when he’s able to play. But “when he’s able to play” is the problem. He’s been paid for three years, but only been able to play his position the equivalent of two. Someone else has had to pick up the slack at short for all those games. 

So yeah, it’s time to trade Correa to a team that can afford a part-time, all-star shortstop and find a solid, if unspectacular one who actually can play every day for a lot less money. Then they can use that money to balance out the rest of the team.

BTW, I’d say the same about Byron Burton. For ten years we’ve been hearing that they’ve finally got his health issues figured out and next year will be his breakout season. And again a great ballplayer and asset to the team when he’s able can play. But only once in those 10 years has he even come close to playing a full season. If he wasn’t a fan favorite and hadn’t come up via the Twins’ system, he probably would have been gone years ago.

The biggest hurdle to trading Carlos Correa is that the Twins do Not have anyone remotely good enough to take his place at shortstop. If he was traded, perhaps the Twins could sign Christian Walker for 4/$100 and thus the bat is partially covered. However, that still leaves a huge hole at shortstop. 

Arizona is almost surely not even listening on any conversations regarding their young shortstop prospect, Jordan Lawler, but that is the type of player needed to fill the position. Would the Diamondbacks consider trading Lawler if the Twins offered Duran, Miranda, Castro, and K. Culpepper?

Oh, and Brooks Lee is a third baseman, not a shortstop. There is a difference.

Devers to 1B and trade Casas ……I could see that. Can’t imagine they trade their star in Duran.

Top end pitching at a reasonable price is hard to come by. They get Pablo for 3 years, in his prime. If they do really like Carlos, they get two excellent pieces (they can afford). They see the AL East as very winnable, and want to go for it. They have Pablo and Crochet at the top of a nice rotation. They could still sign additional pieces like Bregman and Bader. 

I like Correa and think he brings a lot to our team, but if the Twins are even remotely serious about trading Correa, do it now, before he becomes the next Josh Donaldson.
