Ex-Twin Turned Oriole

With Johan Santana signed, the Orioles again continued their obvious pattern.

I want to create a list of the past 2-3 years, with the expectation that my fellow posters contribute ones I miss. Should be fun and won't be long before we have a full 25 man roster!

Danny Valencia

Alexi Casilla

JJ Hardy

Grant Balfour

Jason Pridie

Lew Ford

Brendan Harris

Alex Burnett

Johan Santana

Going back the last three years, they've also had:

Willie Eyre

JC Romero

Luis Ayala

Steve Tolleson was drafted by the Twins but never got called up to the bigs here.

And they had Liam Hendricks for a couple minutes.

Scott Erickson in JR's best trade ever!!!

I took a look at the details of that trade. Kimera Bartee was added to it, late in the 1995 season. Apparently the Twins then left Bartee off their 40-man. Guess who took him in the Rule 5 draft that winter? Those same Orioles. And then what did Baltimore do with him? They exposed him to waivers that next spring and the Tigers took him.

Stay classy, Baltimore.

That's a long time ago. But these recent roster moves almost makes it sound like there is bad blood between the franchises for some reason.

And they claimed Willingham at the deadline last year.

Yep. Which is why I was hopeful that the Twins might have been/might still be able to work out a deal to unlock an infielder or pitching prospect from the O's. Notwithstanding the signing of Cruz, the O's still desperately need a RH DH bat.

Perhaps the Orioles believe they can turn our outcasts into better players. I really don't see a rivalry. I recall JJ Hardy saying that the training staff helped him in 'different ways' from the Twins staff, and clearly Baltimore's has been better. I'm not sure if that means anything, but I believe they think they can get more out of our players than we can.

In other words, the Orioles are the Seahawks of MLB. There's always that team...

I can at least understand the Seahawks - it was a retaliation for the Steve Hutchinson signing.
