Lyman Bostock 11/22/1950-9/23/1978

There were four glorious seasons between the dash, above. Fans at Metropolitan Stadium and other ballparks saw Bostock bat .336/.389/.508 in 1977, before journeying west to join the Angels for his final season under the sun.

Now he is safe at home. Rest eternal, Lyman Wesley Bostock.

Lyman Bostock quickly became one of my favorite players. IMO, he was the best home-grown talent the team had since Carew. He seemed like a wonderful person, which is even better.

I am personally glad that players can't be free agents after 3 ML seasons any more. The players may disagree.

I watched the final inning again on youtube the other day. Still gives me goosebumps.

If I hadn't already looked up this photo in anticipation of posting to this thread, I would not have been able to pick this guy out of a police lineup.

Scary that he has had a 10 year career with the big club :)

Best known for killing a rabid raccoon with a shovel while working in his yard.

Was that in his years as a manager down there?

The running joke was that if he'd only had a bat instead of a shovel, he'd never have been able to hit it. Ouch.

He was a coach, and it was about 8 years ago. The news reported a problem with rabid raccoons, and sure enough on attacked him in his yard but one swing from the shovel eliminated one rabid raccoon.

Lol why? If I had posted a pic of Punto it would've been of him sliding head first into first. Actually, I'm quite disappointed that you didn't!

Well, see, at first glance it appears the photo might have been rotated 90degress, and with your history of picture posting issues.

No pictures, just have to say, "sweet, sweet, single digits." When it started out in the forties it was almost depressing, even though spring training was starting.

Lol, okay. I don't do it on purpose but the phone posting is weird.
