Think about the Astros... Yeah we swept them... But they played some bad baseball... It has to be the worst sweep feeling produced in quite some time. 2. Think about the Royals... The Royals are turning it on. I've always felt that this team was capable of contending and they were very slow coming out of the gate. They are 13-3 since the All Star Break and within wild card consideration distance. 3. Think about the Blue Jays... The Blue Jays are 51-60 and the Twins are 48-60. The Blue Jays went for it... This year... It can be argued that the Twins didn't... I don't know what's worse... Cheering for a team that didn't go for it and wasn't supposed to succeed and end up failing or Cheering for a team that went for it and was supposed to succeed and end up failing. 4. Think about Oswaldo Arcia... It just feels better having him in the lineup. Don't it. 5. Think about "Take me out to the ball game" Why do we sing that line at the games when we are already at the "Ball Game"?
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I've never been a big Dodgers or Royals fan, in fact my SoCal relatives turned me totally off of the Dodgers years ago. But this season, I think it would be hilarious if they met in the World Series, given all the lecturing we were reading earlier in the season about how a) paying a lot for free agents doesn't even lead to much success, and the Royals' trade of a top prospect for some established pitching was foolish. Baseball is much too complex for pat answers like those.

Because we're having so much fun we want to come back? Again and again and again? I might go see 4 in a row at the Cell ... but that probably won't be because I'm having so much fun, though.

B Richard Provisional Member Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 My girlfriend (not originally a baseball fan) is trying to learn more about the Twins after seeing how bizarrely I care about them. I've explained a lot to her (she knows who Sano is and understands Morneau's sad story), but I've had trouble selling her on the franchise as it currently stands. How do you explain a rebuilding phase to an entry-level fan and get someone to buy in?

How do you explain a rebuilding phase to an entry-level fan and get someone to buy in? It's like a mood... Everything is fine for awhile and then all of sudden in cyclical fashion the mood changes and pretty soon the couch, the chairs, the kitchen appliances, the color of the bathroom isn't working anymore. So you get some new stuff and you don't like that stuff until you get used to it.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 Why is that ball not caught?

James Verified Member Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Look at that. We made it through the first inning without the other team scoring. Watch out AL Central. The Twins are rolling now.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Why is that ball not caught? I can't explain how, but I'm pretty sure Doumit's pitch framing is to blame.
B Richard Provisional Member Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Yeah Trevor, that's what a strike looks like
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 Trouble at home? Yeah... I'm never ever really sure why?

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Held Hostage? Being held hostage might be more fun than 4 games in a row at the cell. Just finished work and heading home ... will catch up with the game then.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 Yeah Trevor, that's what a strike looks like What I tell the players I coach is this. "If its spinning... It's a curveball". That's all you need to know.
