Article: Arcia Powers Up Twins Offense

My favorite of the current crop of Twins rookies. Have loved watching him rack up power numbers, and while I by no means have given up on Hicks and Gibson, Arcia's command is refreshing to witness.

I was there, too. Despite hitting the game winning home run, I still think there's something missing from Arcia's swing. When he first arrived, he seemed to have a tighter snap, a purer straight-line motion to the ball. Reminded me a little of vintage Albert Pujols.

An even more encouraging sign for me was Justin Morneau's homer. That shot was a classic Morneau smash to right center, a no-doubter that may herald more of same. A few games ago up in the booth, Roy Smalley opined that Morneau's swing was getting close to what it used to be, and when it finally got back, he might start looking like his old self. Maybe this is it, boys and girls. Fingers crossed.

Yea, he will get it back just in time for him to be to expensive for the Twins to sign. With that said, what would people be willing to extend to Morneau to keep him past this year, not knowing if he will get back near where we hope he will be. Do you expect him to be a 25 HR 100 RBI guy again? If we do keep him, I would try the 2 or 3 yr $10 million a yr contract , see if he would take it. I know this should probably go on another thread, if anyone wants to start one, and maybe someone already has one.

If Morneau was perceived as a 25HR/100RBI guy, he would be offered more than that by a winning team. Hence, watch Morneau closely, this is his last year as a Twin.

right now Morneau is ranked below average offensively so he would be lucky for a 1 year 5 million offer. probably less. The Yankees 1b fill in Overbay was signed to a 1 year 1.25 million and is out performing him in some areas. I wouldnt offer more than 1 year 5 million with incentives maybe.

I agree, Nick.  Arcia (and the bullpen) made the game worth watching.  I also think Morneau will get a suitable 2-3 yr offer at the end of the season.  Colabello is late on the fast ball, Parmalee and Plouffe are AAAA players.  If Morneau keeps driving in runs, the Twins need him.<br>

If Arcia can produce consistantly, and the rest of the Farm hands that are on the way live up to the hype, this thing might start turning around sooner then most thought. I guess it all depends on those few prospects with the wings and how fast the younger ones like Sano and Buxton push themselves closer. Twins need pitching... starting pitching especially, and those few that are close are still at least a year or two away from being factors at the big league level.

Can the Twins move Arcia to first base after this season? He is absolutely brutal in the field.
I want Mauer to catch, but realistically he'll play progressively more first base as he gets older. I don't want to see Mauer take ABs from Arcia.

Was there for the series this weekend as well, couldn't agree more, Arcia was the main attraction for me. If nothing else, his bat needs to stay in the lineup every game from here on out. I swear if I see Willingam and Doumit in the outfield together when Hammer comes back and Arcia sitting.......I'm going to yell loudly at my computer....by myself....again!

How about he works to get better at left field. He's certainly young enough to improve if he puts in the work.

A defensively shoddy 1st baseman would be worse than the LF equivalent.

Arcia is an important part of the Twins present and future, for until guys like Sano, Buxton, Walker, etc. come up we really do not have a threat in the lineup that can give Mauer the protection he deserves and needs. He has already been sent down once and has proven that he can crush minor league pitchers, so from this point forward, he has to be a future corner outfielder for the Twins. An outfield with him in left (and batting clean up or 5th in the lineup) with Buxton in center and Hicks in right (I am assuming Kepler moves to first and possibly Vargas or a FA as DH?) would suffice just fine in my book. He will have his miscues in the outfield, sure, but his bat and the defense of his "fellow associates" should more than make up for that. Add in the fact that he just turned 22 in May and seems to have the work ethic to improve all parts of his game, quickly I might add, I think sitting back and watching this kid grow into the hitter we all know he can be will be quite fun.. something I can't say for most of the team these days....
