  1. 2 of Willingham, Moralas, and Suzuki will be traded At or before the deadling. My guess, Willingham and suzuki. I think one of these teams with all these pitchers getting hurt may over pay a bit for Correia. Especially if a burton or Duensing are included. Watch for the mariners to be a possible destination. Correia could be a good fit there. Angels will be looking for relief help. Just a couple of teams that could be darkhorses to go a cheaper/shorter commitment route. If Moralas heats up and gets closer to career norms, i could see and team needing a bat looking at him in August, (Yankees) if they are in it.
  2. Meyer might get a look if Nolasco is down past the trade deadline, I am thinking well into august, especially once, not if Correia is traded. But at most it'll be 4-5 starts, I would imgine Deduno, or some combination of him, Pino, Johnson, and maybe even Darnell will get another look before Meyer, Mostly to manage Meyer's innings. If Meyer gets his consistantcy back to where it had been before June, which seems to be the case, he'll get a september call up at the very least.
  3. That was the sense i got when i read the cleared room for May. Although I believe May will get more then one start in AAA; Johnson will get pounded again before May is brought up. The Rotation for the second half will look something like Hughes, Correria, Gibson, Deduno, and May/Johnson/Pino. Deduno prolly goes back into the rotation until Nolasco is ready to go. To bad for Diamond, But he ended up just like his brother who got a chance with the cubs. Someone will take a flyer on him though.
  4. I am a Die hard Twins fan. I also follow the cubs. The organizations are in completely different rebuild molds if you will. There was an article, somewhere I read, I believe it was a post on here, where there are three different, Houston complete youth movement, trade away all salary in an effort, to start from the ground up. Effective, yes, but to be barron of mlb talent for 2 plus yrs. very tough on a fan base. Now they are begining to see those efforts first hand. But they also had to rebuild a poor farm system. The Cubs, similarly have had to rebuild a poor farm system. But outside of a couple spots on their roster, have signed veterens, especially in the rotation, and flipped them for prospects. Mind you both teams have drafted well, and also the cubs have been extremly aggressive in signing international free agents. But the cubs don't have that big name, like the twins do with Mauer. Rizzo and Castro might be those guys, but right now they are young and are not close to that level. they are building blocks. The Twins, they have got a superstar, and while i haven't agreed with some of the personal moves, they have to rebuild and win as much as they can while rebuilding. Which explains the Kubel, Bartlett, and Gerrier moves. But they also realize that, in order to get better, those plaers that are not cornerstones, and building blocks are tradable assests. Houston is a little farther away then the cubs and twins, and the twins are probably the closest to competing. They have shown that they are not that far away. The youth movement is almost here. To be fair to the twins, they really didnt have any prospects mlb ready until this year. thats the biggest reason they have been so bad the past couple yrs, no depth and no real prospects in the high minors. We all reconize that we haven't moved forward at all in terms of our big 4 or five prospects, injuries, suspension, etc. but organizationly the twins have gotten stronger as a whole and the depth is finally getting back to where it was, the farm system wasn't as bad as their counterparts, but the talent was just years away. thats not true anymore. Devolpmently they have probably hurt a couple prospects, with how they were handled, Hicks especially. but hicks is probably close to where he belongs right now, helps on its way, remember that, we are going to see some of the studs start coming up in the next 6 wks or so. but I also think there will be a trade that no one expects, kind of like the span and revere deals in the same offseason. The other thing to look at is what they are doing with some position players switching positions, pay close attention to those moves to, in my mind that can be a good tell of what they think of the people that are in front of those players, i.e. Travis Harrison. Rosario to, playing a lot more OF now that Dozier is settled in. I think we will see Rosario sooner rather then later as long as his bat stays consistant. maybe even as soon as they trade Hammer.
  5. Deduno is the first one out, KC just gave himself more rope, and honestly he has earned it. He has been better over the last 5 or so starts (or that could be Gardy seeing he's done for the night a little better) there is still the thought the he is an asset that can be traded if he continues to be average! who knows, and knowing its a long shot, a very long shot maybe they give Swarzek a few starts! highly doubt it, but for better or for worse the way they worked Gibson into the fold last year, would be good for both Meyer and May. more so Meyer knowing he's on an innings/pitch limit this year, I seriously doubt Meyer is up before september if at all this year. I think we Really need to think though, how bad the last 3 yrs have been, between injuries and just plain terrible pitchers. The Twins have only had 6 starting pitchers, and yes I know Johnson made a start this year but that was to ensure everyone stayed and regular rest and it was the 2nd game of a double header. Really think hard, how long has it been since the Twins had 6 or fewer starters make 5 or more starts to this point in the season? 4 of which havnt missed a turn. There's another stat, whens the last time they had their top 4 starters not miss a turn to this point in the year? Deduno has run his course in my mind, yes he was decent last year and part of the year before, but he has a fairly significant injury history, he has only had 2 starts where he's gone 6 IP, his second and third starts respectivly, he has shown flashes, but so did Ponder, and we all know where that has ended, they wanted him as their long guy for a reason, short, inconsistant starts and injuries, plus they were hoping to protect him a bit. They will more then likely outright him at the end of the month or shortly there after unless he turns it around, and its unlikely that he gets claimed. Not a big loss if he is. They do have options, that are looking closer and closer to being ready with every start they make. If May continues to keep walks down and continues to be consistant, he will be the next one up. The only way May isn't is either and injury, or they need someone to make a spot start, then its probably Johnson.
  6. Rosario has played a lot of CF to my knowledge since he returned, is he an insurance policy in the case of injuries? or sub-par play. Santanna is playing his tail off, but we all know he will come back to earth at some point, and we know that Hicks should probably be sent down. As much as I think Rosario could be up, I doubt it until september, and even at that, Is he on the forty man? I can see him being in Rochester at or shortly after the all star break, but that being said it will be in the OF, and second base i think is becoming more of an after thought, with how well Dozier and Escobar and Santanna are playing, Nunez in the fold. I think they feel much more comfortable with keeping him in the OF, yet still giving him time at 2nd.
  7. Most everyone has made good points, some are more valid then others. Pinto's defense wasn't this bad during his call up last year, but teams have forced him to make plays, and more times then not he is throwing the ball away, more over the fact that teams have had a chance to scout him more on both sides of the ball has not helped him. essentailly he has yet to make the adjustment. Its better for his defense to stay in the majors to keep working with Stienbach, but he needs more regular at bats. Quite frankly, he needs to catch once a series, or once to every 2 for Kurt. however, on the other hand going down and starting to get a good rapport with the young guns at AAA may be more beneficial to everyone in the long run. I think going down until say the All-star break or so would be ok. just so he can get some confidence back, and maybe thats all he needs. but i also think that Gardy has to keep Kurt fresher or he's going to be much closer to or below his career averages offensivly, and the best person to do that with is Pinto. if Gardy starts im 3 times a week once at DH and catches twice then I am ok with him staying up. if not send him down for awhile either until he's needed or until he forces his way back onto the roster. he's a player, but whats the best longterm answer, not what is the best right now. I would think optioning him within the next week needs to happen. he has given us a taste of how good he can be. and devolpmently thats best for him and the organization and Meyer and May to, he will be catching those two regularly, and that in my opinion is the best option both right now, but more importantly long term!
  8. My Thoughts I wrote on that last night on another thread, Parm has more flexiblity defensively, and would probably be as good as Kubel, with a little less power. I would be willing to bet they are working on a trade with Parm and/or Diamond. Pirates, I bet would be in on Parm, doubtful on diamond, but you never know. They aren't going to run Parm through waivers Because he'll get claimed and they don't want to lose him for free, he'll either get traded or make the roster or make the roster until he gets traded. Colabello or Bartlett will make the roster, for a right handed bat, which means Presely may be the odd man out. Its also doubtful that Colabello and Parm both make the roster, due to basically being the same player and playing the same positions. They also need a bat that is good against lefties, who ever it is.
  9. Pitching is much better, Gibson will be the 5, yes the offense is going to be bad, but they were pretty terrible last year. Defensively its the same guys for the most part, they aren't great but they are pretty good up the middle, and below average on the corners other than Joe. You'll have to remember, that the pitchers are going to miss more bats than last year, probably twice as many from the starters did last year, just with Ricky and Phil, and Gibson will probably be at 6.5-7 K/9 by mid season if not right up there with Ricky and Phil. If Gibson and get to or maybe just below league average and Ricky and Phil stay at their career numbers, you will probably have 400-450 k's just from those three, where as last year you didn't have that from the starters and didn't have much more then that from the pitching staff as a whole. As good as Perkins is, a closer should never come close to leading the team in strikeouts,
  10. Herrmann is the super utility guy that Cuddy was for the twins. Herrmann was taking grounders at 3rd to years ago when Plooffe was hurt, He is a good athlete and can play just about anywhere. and they have enough other pieces that if Hicks couldn't play for a day or two, that they would be fine. Also, Parm could play center in a pinch, He played there some in college if I'm not mistaken. It probably wouldn't be pretty, but was Cuddy?
  11. I keep hearing there will most likely be a trade before opening day, teams are always looking to 'pen arms, the Reds and Tigers come to mind. Burton and Duensing, one of or both will probably be in another uniform before the week's out.
  12. They will try to trade Diamond, but will probably end up waiving him, and everybody knows that. They wouldn't have asked for Gilmartin and traded for johnson if they really wanted to keep Diamond that badly to take a slot away from theilbar who out proformed every pitcher other then Perkins last year. Don't you think that was the thought when they gave Albers the opportunity to go to Korea? They have some nice options from the left side now, don't forget about the young arms that are coming, there are more lefties than Thrope coming, and I have seen a lot of positives on some of those younger southpaws!
  13. Same here, give him one last shot. He is Kubel, with more defensive flexibilty, more athleticism and he's much younger, see if Kubel will stay around in AAA for a month or so, because someone will get hurt, traded or Parm just won't be the answer, then give Kubel a shot! I'd like to see Callabello get a shot opening day to but if Pinto goes north, he's there right handed platoon partner with Kubel.
  14. Bad idea, He had weight issues the whole time he was in a Twins uniform, weather he had a spot on the roster or not. He has no motivation to keep weight off, why bother with him, when there are capable options in house, plus he pitched in the NL West which for the past decade or better, has been the worst offensive division in baseball, even with the current Dodger line-up!
