PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I thought it might be worthwhile to collect the tweets and other info the sputters around the interwebs. I'm sure it will be anticlimatic, but I find the information mining vaguely fun. Phil Mackey @PMac2110mRT @TBrownYahoo: Word from Twins camp: "Painfully quiet."Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS1m#orioles, #pirates, and others are in on #twins justin morneau http://cbsprt.co/132YjRR

Badsmerf Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Thanks for the compilation psuedo. I'm not a twitter guy and don't want it for the 2 times of the year I feel it is relevant (MLB deadling and NFL draft).
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 Ive got to run some errands for a while, but I'll be back.
Chance Provisional Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Is it just me or does this seem like a down year for trades, League wide? I feel like there were many more deals done by the trade deadline in years past, including less significant players. We have hardly had any trades, including 2nd or 3rd tier players.

It's been doing that for a few years, but I have no doubt it's influencing the quality of the market for what the Twins have.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 The bad teams have had less assets to trade. There is no Sabathia or Grienke dangling.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 It is reported that the Padres are offering this for Ian Kennedy: Matt Stites Minor League Statistics & History - Baseball-Reference.com Matt Stites is a AA reliever and not one of the Padres top 20 prospects. I can't imagine AZ would move Kennedy for that. Surely the Twins can top that offer. If AZ can truely be lowballed, the Twins have a ton of mid-level prospects.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Kennedy went for a few mid prospects, seems cheap but he is having a poor yr not bad for our rotation, however. Seems like a guy terry could have had if he thought we need pitching, guess that thought is still up in the air.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Kennedy would have been interesting...but he has taken a pretty significant nose dive these last two years (especially this year) plus, he isn't going to be exactly cheap this off-season with his 2nd year of arb. I'd say the Twins should take the gamble if they were a pitcher or two away...but at this point they are better off holding onto their assets in the minors as well as their upcoming draft picks. There is a reason why Kennedy a former stud didn't fetch a nice return... also Joe Thatcher is a nice affordable RP, the Twins likely would have had to give up a pick (do they even have one to trade?) along with Burton and a middling prospect.... again I prob would have went for it, but at this point I wonder if the Dbacks were just going to cut Kennedy after the season anyways?

ThePuck Provisional Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 The Orioles and Astros have worked out a deal that will send Houston starting pitcher Bud Norris to Baltimore in exchange for outfielder L.J. Hoes, a Competitive Balance Draft pick and a Minor League left-handed pitcher right before the non-waiver Trade Deadline on Wednesday.
