Fien is in -- bring in Perkins if he gets in trouble?

What better way to generate more value for Fien? It's risky, but it's the right thing to do: Throw him into higher leverage situations and hope he excels.

Oh, agree about bringing in Fien. I'd just like to have them win at least one game against the Yankees this year. But since Fien got out of it w/o any damage........

I'm going to disagree with the outrage on the call against Thomas at first base. I watched the play, and he was in fair territory the whole time up the baseline. He was not in the "running lane" that is marked on the field. Rule 6.05(k) and attached comment make it pretty clear the umpire called it correctly.

It sucks, but that's baseball.

(k) In running the last half of the distance from home base to first base, while the ball

is being fielded to first base, he runs outside (to the right of) the three-foot line, or

inside (to the left of) the foul line, and in the umpire’s judgment in so doing interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base, in which case the ball is dead;

except that he may run outside (to the right of) the three-foot line or inside (to the

left of) the foul line to avoid a fielder attempting to field a batted ball;

Rule 6.05(k) Comment: The lines marking the three-foot lane are a part of that lane and a

batter-runner is required to have both feet within the three-foot lane or on the lines marking the lane.

The batter-runner is permitted to exit the three-foot lane by means of a step, stride, reach or slide in the

immediate vicinity of first base for the sole purpose of touching first base.

That's no fair. Stop examining plays applying the rules to them.

Well, personally, I didn't think he interfered with fielding the ball. It was a bad throw, which is why he was hit.

I agree it was a bad throw, but if you're going to rely upon the umpire's judgment, you have to expect sometimes it will go against you. If he had been in the lane, it would have taken away the need for an umpire's judgment call.

Darn ... Chief beat me to it!

You have to get up pretty early in the afternoon to put one over on this old codger.

They probably won't have to face Cano again today. No one else in the order really scares me. I'm disappointed with the way the Twins have played the crippled Yankees. They match up horribly with the Rays and it figured they would lose at least three when Tampa was playing well. The Yankees aren't playing that well, but the Twins have just failed to do the job against them.

Yeah ... and I'll admit to being a little groggy yet from my nap.

I always need a nap after having beaver tails, too.

But this is the part that affects the play and Thomas complied with this.

When you use logic like that, it makes it hard for me to be outraged. Please stop it.

Our long national nightmare is over.

Calls for a cocktail or two, IMO.
