This might be tough to watch. I somehow feel bad for both McCarthy and Wentz. Never thought I'd feel bad for either this season.

This competitive rebuild stuff is nonsense. You're either a contender or your not. Being 'competitive' is vague and almost always used hyperbolically. Even the Jets are saying they're competitive.

For anyone interested, here is the latest update to my PFF depth chart:DepthChart10-25-25.PNG.7753aaf3238df70d4b1943e975ea56a7.PNG

This roster is a lot worse than it looked on paper at the start of the year, it's not just an injury thing. Basically every FA addition outside of Rodgers has been bad, and we don't have a single rookie playing well. As usual.

Interesting.  I like this kind of breakdown.  What's your methodology for assigning categories?  PFF grades, your own informed opinion, some sort of blend, etc?

It's all PFF, but I blend the players' previous 3 years of grades other and weight it to favor current season play over previous seasons. There are some grades I don't agree with (i. e. Addison and Nailor), but generally I think it paints a fairly accurate picture.

Makes sense.  I can't believe there's three whole levels below Skule

He played 500 snaps for the Bucs last year and was league average, he's been way worse with us. I liked the move to sign him, but for whatever reason every OL we brought in is underachieving while Bradbury and Ingram are having career years with their new teams. Which explains why many Vikings fans are calling for the OL coach to be fired.

I'd fire Kwesi right now. I'd suggest that KOC hire a coordinator.

I would as well, but I don’t think the Wilfs have the guts to fire Kwesi before his extension kicks in… And it’s an embarrassment that Falvey is allowed to lead a full rebuild of the Twins in year 10 of his tenure

Ha. I edited my answer....

The NYJ are a dumpster fire.

Off topic, but I feel sorry for anyone who is truly a fan of the gophers football team. I just watch passively (I only have so much room in my life for bad Minnesota sports teams), but man are they are a perpetual disappointment. I have no idea how long fleck’s contract is for. I’m sure he’s recently got some big extension which seems to be the norm in college football, but the guy clearly should be on thin ice. Struggling at home against a bad Michigan state team after being blown off the field against Iowa. Doesn’t seem to be any improvement over the years.

College sports is an abomination that should be eliminated.

I’ve said for years there should be a way to make the major college programs basically minor league NFL, separated from actual education. Penn state has  had to close satellite campuses recently and just bought out their coach for millions of dollars. “But that’s different money, the program is self-sufficient” is the rebuttal. Well if it’s self-sufficient, so be it. Take those kinds of programs and come up with some kind of minor league system. Just my opinion. It’s just crazy to watch the gophers get some second rate bowl game every year, and their coach is locked down for years and tens of millions of dollars. Especially now with many colleges struggling

Fleck seems like a "high floor" coach, but I am saying that as one who watches the scores and doesn't watch the games. They don't have many, if any "clunker" seasons under him but they don't have much of a ceiling. One week they beat Nebraska by 3 scores despite being 8.5 point underdogs, then they get sliced and diced against Iowa.

I give it less than a decade when college sports creates a super conference of 30-40 teams that opt-in to this ridiculous pay to play system. The rest will opt-out and go back to the old ways of scholarships and nothing else offered.

I see fleck was given a one year extension this summer….through 2030 😂 $6 million a year plus bonuses. These schools have lost their damn minds.

Buyout is all that matters in NCAA. Fleck is still a pretty solid recruiter and a university with far more resources like Florida makes a lot of sense for him. The Gophers will never be a Big 10 contender in football.

The last several years the Vikings have played really well in the games they were heavy underdogs, and they won several of those games too.

Not feeling it today.

It's fine, my expectations for the season already went in the tank. I'll look for the details to find encouragement. Let's see McCarthy make quicker reads and have the OL stay healthy today.
