I’m just asking how truly terrible he must be to not start over Dillon Gabriel. I watched almost the entire browns Steelers game yesterday and I’m shocked the browns don’t have a WR or two in the hospital with some of the inaccurate passes he was throwing all day. He hit a dude in the head. I have no earthly idea how he hasn’t thrown an INT yet. He reminds me of myself in high school, I couldn’t see over the LOS either 😂 Then again he was drafted ahead of sanders so maybe he’ll continue to be given chances even though stefanski is coaching for his job (which he’s probably going to lose) We're not confused. You're asking how truly terrible he must be. We're telling you how truly terrible he is. If you disagree with anything Nick or I have said, by all means give us a counterpoint. Sanders rolled up giant numbers in college by throwing the ball behind the LOS almost 30% of the time, and within 10 yards over 60% of the time. He got away with it in college because he was in the Big 12, and he had a Hesiman winner to throw to. Neither of those are true in the NFL, so all of a sudden a guy who can't throw downfield, isn't surrounded with talent, takes sacks like crazy, and isn't serious about getting better is simply that bad. The question isn't how terrible must he be; the question is why isn't it obvious to everyone that he shouldn't be in the NFL, and never should have been to begin with?

Gabriel was their 3rd round pick, the one they decided was better than Sanders. They have to give him lots of rope. Eventually, Sanders will get opportunities. The only time I've seen him was a single preseason game where he looked ok but that's it. I'm sure two time coach of the year Stefanski knows what he's doing with the QB position.

It’s hard to say he shouldn’t get a shot at the nfl, I mean there are a ton of really bad qb’s currently starting and even worse ones backing up. I can’t find the post but I believe Callahan is the 4th head coach in the last 4 years to be fired during a #1 pick QB’s rookie season. Ward, Bryce young, Caleb Williams and another guy I can’t remember. I’m still a believer in not throwing a QB immediately in to a bad situation.

Here it is: ”Most recently, the Tennessee Titans announced they fired head coach Brian Callahan on Monday, Oct. 13, six weeks into the rookie season of No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward. With that news, Callahan becomes the fourth consecutive head coach to lose his job during the rookie year of a quarterback drafted with the No. 1 overall pick. This is not a completely new trend, though it is one that started recently. In the last 10 NFL seasons – since 2016 – only two quarterbacks have been selected with the No. 1 overall pick and finished out their rookie season with the same head coach that began the season“ https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2025/10/13/brian-callahan-fired-cam-ward-no-1-overall-qb/86676369007/ gunnarthor 1

The off-field stuff certainly didn't help, but his inability to push the ball downfield with a propensity to take sacks by holding the ball are two things that on their own make it almost impossible for a QB to succeed in the NFL, let alone both together. You're right, there are a lot of bad QB's currently starting, and worse ones backing up--Sanders is one of those "even worse" ones, and should be thought of as more or less interchangeable with the likes of Hall and Mannion. Go look at his college passing chart, look at the sacks he took, look at the complete and utter lack of self-awareness and unwillingness to be self-critical; do all that while eliminating his name, and understanding that whatever good stats he put up in college were a mirage coming on a 3rd tier team in a 3rd tier league, and this will hopefully stop being so befuddling. Sanders is absolutely that bad, and the only reason people are doubting it is because it hasn't been made plainly obvious in the context of a regular season NFL game. Aggies7 and The Great Hambino 2

If you're going to invest in a #1 pick at QB, you have to give him a rock-solid support system, and pulling the rug out from under him by changing coaches is just lunacy. Aggies7 1
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 This bears Washington game is wild. I’m worried that the bears are getting better despite them being down now

Here's a controversial take (well probably not here because no one cares about the Titans), but the Titans current QB coach, Bo Hardegree, is the one who was the QB coach for the bad versions of Derek Carr, Ryan Tannahill and Will Levis, while also working on offenses that oversaw the bad versions of Mac Jones and Sam Darnold early in their careers. Meanwhile Brian Callahan was the QB coach for Mattew Stafford in his prime and the OC for Joe Burrow while being an assistant on the Broncos when Peyton Manning was there. Background out of the way, if the Titans want a shot at salvaging Ward, they should have considered demoting Brian Callahan to QB coach, who at least has worked with elite QB talent before. It would have been awkward but could have perhaps been salvaged by promoting his dad to interim HC. His dad did coach a team to the Super Bowl after all, he's qualified for an interim job. I'd guess he won't take it now that his son was fired though. What's weird is that they've done some things right in terms of trying to help a young QB. They've tried to have a stable offensive line in place, a good defense at times, veteran playmakers. But yeah...something is just broken there. (Either they are misfiring on guys like Skoronski, Latham, Calvin Ridley, Trey Burks....or they're just bad at coaching them) nicksaviking 1

If you're picking #1, there's a good chance a coaching change is justified. Of course, as I look for recent examples where a new coach was paired with a #1 overall QB, the most recent one was ... Urban Meyer. Before that, Kliff Kingsbury. Maybe you just shouldn't want to be taken #1 overall at QB. Mike Sixel 1

They're not gonna trust either one to push the ball downfield, but at least Gabriel can get rid of it on time. I do still think that Sanders will find his way onto the field at some point this year via ownership involvement.

I just disagree with the bar you have for Gabriel. Obviously, if you're a QB for the Browns your career is already starting in the toilet. But he has enough encouraging traits that he might be a perfectly acceptable QB down the road on an actual NFL team.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 After 6 weeks, every team in the NFC North has a winning record. No other division can say the same. We knew it was going to be a heavyweight fight in this division, and it's living up to the hype

Tennessee’s gotta start hiring guys from PFF, or anyone that has walked by McVay or Shanahan in the hallway. It’s the only way to succeed in the modern NFL
