I wouldn't do it but. It'd take a lot, for my friends here is a couple examples. Julien straight up plus a throw in according to BTV.

Athletics
NAME POSITION SURPLUS
Emmanuel Rodriguez OF 22.1
Gabriel Gonzalez OF 11.0
David Festa SP 8.7
Tanner Schobel SS 8.0

Total Value: 49.8

49.80

Twins
NAME POSITION SURPLUS
Mason Miller RP 47.8

Total Value:

47.80

If OAK does sell there'll be a lot of competion so knowing OAK, they'll won't sell unless they get moon. IMO we'll be fine with Duran, Steward, Jax, Varland & Canterino

This chart makes me wonder what the Twins could get for Duran?  Wait, wait, no, no. Don't do it. Just saying.

If Julien returns to form and Lee is ready there is space for both.

Concur.

I will bite. I can’t think of a Miller who was moved last off season that the Twins missed on and could have won the bid. Maybe you are referring to Bryce. I think the Seattle Times reported that DiPoto was not looking to trade Miller or Woo. Sometimes that is smoke but neither guy moved so I am guessing it would have taken a huge overpay.

My point was it doesn't hurt to talk and find out and you concurred.  I'm not suggesting trading Julien. Julien's a mess right now but things might get worse using someone else. We don't know the ask for the A's Miller just as we didn't know the ask for Bryce Miller last offseason. The idea of Polanco, Wallner, Raya, and a low A unranked guy may have been close. DiPoto was going to get Polanco one way or another. That's in the past though and I only made rough reference to it because we don't know what a team wants for their players and that was an example, but I'm hoping that the question is asked at the very least. The Twins have Duran, Jax, Alcala, hopefully Stewart, and potentially Varland for late in games. Still if Miller could be added it seems worth looking into at this time.

Unbelievable that this is a pay site. After the debacles of their numbers last offseason I thought everyone had totally ignored them. BTW, who among those who pay attention to Twins prospects has Tanner Schobel as having the same value as David Festa?

Everyone is better off just designing their own trades/values and arguing their points.

Oakland has been notoriously cheap. Trading 1st year players does not save money unless you expect them to break.

The return. People here do not remember that Oakland makes head scratching deals. It would not cost someone with service time. More likely it would cost a couple arms and a couple legs. 2 pitchers and 2 hitters. Most likely a player from each level below AAA. That is why you should deal with Oakland

the player does not have a long history of mediocrity at the major league level as Lopez did. That is a bad comp. The question should be is he a pitcher  that other teams will figure out once there is enough data? Dunno.. will his arm blow out? Only if he is a Twin

Given the Twins recent history trading for and signing relief pitchers, I’d say no.

Or it means that the next one will tip in our favor. The kid has a legitimate pitch mix.

Doc Gast, thanks for listing out what a possible trade could be.  I would not make the trade as displayed either.  But I wonder what Julien's "value" is right now?  After last season, I would have guessed it would be higher than his 34.0 or so.  Has it slipped since his rough start to this season?  At one time, you could almost envision a Julien for Mason Miller deal straight up.  Not so sure that would be true now with one heading to an All Star selection and the other headed to St. Paul to "find his stroke."

History can and does repeat.  What about the last time we traded for a converted starter with lights out stuff for 1/2 year?  How did that Jorge Lopez trade with Baltimore go?

A BIG NO!!!

So if Jhoan Duran was on another team and was made available in the middle of his first big league season you wouldn’t have traded for him .

You raise a valid point.  I prefer in developing relief pitchers not trading for them.  Seems like a better track record given what we have acquired vs given up on relief pitcher trades in the past.  No was just my opinion based on this thought.

They got a good half season out of Romo for a 1b who couldn’t hit major league pitching

they got an injured Dyson for 3 lottery tickets that have done almost nothing  at the major league level

they got Fulmer for a pitcher that is undergoing TJ. He did have a good September call up pitching against 4 teams that were amongst the worst in baseball. Projected a ceiling f back of rotation starter

They got Oekert for a utility player that can’t hit

Pagan was good enough to get a 24 million dollar contract

that leaves 1 bad trade
