Ken Rosenthal in his recent roundup for The Athletic, mentioned that it's likely the Miami Marlins will be looking to deal pitchers at this trade deadline. They already moved Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres early in the season and with new President of Baseball Operations Peter Bendix tasked with rebuilding a painfully depleted Marlins farm system, it's likely he will use the trade deadline to build out the farm system.

Three names mentioned are starting pitchers Jesus Luzardo and Braxton Garrett while reliever Tanner Scott is also likely to be dealt. Scott is on an expiring contract this season but starters Luzardo (free agent after 2026 season) and Garrett (free agent after 2028 season) are long-term pieces that would require a hefty prospect price.

While it's questionable whether the Twins will be in the starter market at the trade deadline, their volatile bullpen performance could make Scott an appealing trade pickup.

Luzardo would be fantastic here. But I don't know if the Twins would be able to pay more in prospects/trade package than Baltimore would (for example) for his services. The deadline will be fun though.

I'd be happy to package 2 of our top 10 prospects and another top 30 prospect to land either Luzardo or Garrett. Although Luzardo is a better pitcher right now, Garrett has the luxury of more team control.

Would Miami accept a package of Marco Raya, Austin Martin, and a throw-in like Bryan Acuna or Darren Bowen for Luzardo or Garrett?

No. You'll need Raya, Gonzalez or Keaschell, and another 12-20 ranked guy....IMO,

They need a top starter 1000000x more than a RP.

In regards to Lazardo or Garrett I'd check in with Pablo to pick his brain regarding his old teammates to see who fits our team the best.

I suspect they've thought of that

In the Arraez trade, Miami preferred quantity over quality. They might be willing to take 4 or 5 of our Top 30 without having to give up Jenkins, Lee, Emma, or Festa.

If they'll take 4-5 guys, none of them in the top 5, why not do that?

I'd be willing to move Raya and another prospect in the 12-20 range for Luzardo. He's having a solid season, he's controllable for 2 seasons and the window is open right now for this team. Plus, I'm not sold on Raya being able to stay healthy/pitch enough to start in MLB, so let someone else roll the dice.

I think you need another top 5-7 guy in there.....they aren't dealing him for a pitching prospect and a 45 FV guy.

I'd go the other way and give up one highly ranked guy and a lower ranked guy or two for Luzardo. Maybe Lee and Martin? Or Lee and Schobel plus Bowen? Or use Gabriel Gonzalez as the headliner in the same kind of package? I agree that we shouldn't trade Emma or Festa. If we believe that Julien can come back to the 2023 version (and I do) Lee is little redundant with Julien, Correa, Lewis, and Miranda all ahead of him. Trade from surplus to get what you want or need.

They have a terrible system, and I bet they want numbers....but your plan works likely.

If I was confident Lewis would ever be healthy, I'd deal Lee for this type of pitcher for sure, but I'm hesitant.

I understand your hesitancy. Dealing Lee works IF you have Lewis, Miranda, Correa, and Julien all available to be playing regularly. If you don't, he's the first man up for all of them. I would take the risk but completely understand if others would not.

I feel good about 2B with Keashcel's progress....and Julien, I'm fairly confident in him. Even Lewis, Miranda can play 3B, but I want him at first. The more I type, the more I realize he's CC's only real backup......and could play 3B or 2B.

MIA will eventually trade all their veteran SPs that's including Alcantra. Those that they don't trade at the deadline will trade next season maybe not Perez.
