  1. The rise of Zebby, Festa, and Andrew Morris--along with Marco Raya, CJ Culpepper, and Cory Lewis--could make Paddack a prime trade candidate either this year at the deadline or next off-season. Slated to make $7.5 million next year, Paddack feels like an expendable piece for the Twins that another team could be willing to trade a Top 20 prospect for, considering Paddack has some untapped upside if he can remain healthy for a full season.
  2. Even though Farmer's overall numbers on the year aren't great, they're weighed down by a historically bad first month of the season. Of late, he's been about league average, which is exactly what you'd expect from him. Could Farmer actually have a bit of trade value, especially for a team like the Dodgers who could use some middle infield help with the injury to Mookie Betts and the struggles of Gavin Lux?
  3. In the Arraez trade, Miami preferred quantity over quality. They might be willing to take 4 or 5 of our Top 30 without having to give up Jenkins, Lee, Emma, or Festa.
  4. I'd be happy to package 2 of our top 10 prospects and another top 30 prospect to land either Luzardo or Garrett. Although Luzardo is a better pitcher right now, Garrett has the luxury of more team control. Would Miami accept a package of Marco Raya, Austin Martin, and a throw-in like Bryan Acuna or Darren Bowen for Luzardo or Garrett?

  6. Kirilloff might just have holes in his swing. Anything down and away or below the zone gets a pretty easy swing and a miss from Kirilloff over the top. When he's hitting well, he's able to stay back and drive the ball to the opposite field, but recently it seems like he's off balance and out on his front foot, which has hurt his ability to hit breaking balls and drive fastballs to the left-center gap (his specialty).
  7. So many lazy flyballs from Buxton and this team (especially Carlos Santana).
  8. I have faith in Julien turning things around. With fewer than two strikes, it's perfectly fine to take a pitch on the corners of the plate because it's unlikely the hitter will be able to do much damage on those pitches. But with two strikes, the hitter needs to try to fight off pitches on the corner to either make contact or foul it off to extend the at-bat. Don't leave the fate of your at-bat to the discretion of the umpire. I hope Julien gets tired of all of these called strike threes so that he shifts his two-strike approach.
  9. Headrick always looked like a better pitcher than his numbers last year. If he can use the new splitter as a putaway pitch while honing his command of the strike zone to reduce his walks and homers, he could be a decent back-of-the-rotation SP.
  10. This is an interesting move considering the current depth of the bullpen. This likely bumps Staumont to AAA to start the season since he has an option remaining, which is unsurprising considering the injury he's trying to overcome and his spring performance (6.35 ERA in 5.2 innings). Chavez has performed pretty well the past few years (1.56 ERA last year in 34.2 inning and 3.76 ERA in 2022 in 69.1 innnings), so maybe he has a bit left in the tank to help overcome the early-season losses of Duran and Thielbar.
  11. Not adding another veteran starting pitcher before the beginning of the season--even if it is someone like Keuchel, Cueto, Rich Hill, or Vince Velasquez to a MiLB deal--would be front-office malpractice.
  12. It all depends on whether the front office is authorized to spend any more money to sign a SP to a MLB contract or has to sign someone to a MiLB contract. It would be really nice to sign someone like Michael Lorenzen to a $6-8 million deal, which would be an absolute bargain, but that is probably out of our budget. I'd target Rich Hill, Matthew Boyd, Greinke, or Cueto on a MiLB deal that provides substantial incentives for their performance while in the majors.
  13. Calm down, everything will work itself out. Lee will debut as soon as one of our regular infielders (Correa, Lewis, Julien, and Kirilloff) hits the IL. There's no reason to trade Lee at this point; he's on the verge of the majors and provides extremely valuable and capable insurance at every infield position.
  14. I’m curious to see who we start for the 2nd game of the year. It’s likely a choice between Ryan and Ober, and I’d go with Ober.
  15. Hopefully Vazquez has used his benching throughout the playoff run last year as extra motivation to fuel a much more productive 2024 campaign. It would be great if he could return to a .700 OPS -- making his contract much less of a negative value. If Vazquez is able to put together a solid 2024 and Camargo shows he's ready to step in as the #2 catcher in 2025, Vazquez could be flipped for a low-level prospect to shed his $10 million salary in 2025.
  16. So many fans forget how valuable 1 WAR is (valued at roughly $8 million). For Buxton to outperform his contract, he'll only need to accumulate around 2 WAR. Although we all have much higher hopes for Byron this year, he doesn't need to accumulate 4 or 5 WAR like some people are claiming for this season to be considered a success. A season in which Buxton plays 65 games in CF, 40 games at DH, is healthy for the playoffs, and puts up an .800+ OPS would likely lead to at least 3 WAR and constitute a resounding success.
  17. It will depend on how we use the DH spot. If everyone is healthy, I think we'll see a lot of Kirilloff in the DH spot to allow Santana (the better defender) to play 1B. But if Buxton ends up needing substantial time at DH, then we'll probably see more AK at 1B against RH SPs with Santana available to pinch hit off the bench against a LH reliever.
  18. At this price, Margot is as good of a player as we could have hoped to get. It's nice to have a genuine alternative for when Buxton inevitably (and sadly) hits the IL so we don't have to turn to WIlli Castro as our every day Centerfielder. I was hoping to sign Duvall, but I'm guessing he was out of our price range, plus he isn't a viable CF'er any longer, so he likely would only have been an option in the Corner OF spots and DH. Plus, with the prospect swap, it feels like we didn't give up much if anything for Margot -- there's a strong case that Doncon is a better prospect than Noah Miller.
  19. I’d give the front office a B+ considering one hand was tied behind their back. They were basically told to keep the payroll where it was, with no room to add any pieces. Subbing out Polanco and Gordon for Carlos Santana, Manny Margot, Okert, Topa, DeSclafani, and Gabby Gonzalez is a pretty good job filling most of our needs without being able to spend any money.
  20. If DeSclafani needs to start the season in the IL, I think we might roll with a 4-man rotation to start the season with a long-man like Jorge Alcala or Cole Sands filling that roster spot in the bullpen. Considering we have 3 days off during the first 9 days of the season, we might not need a 5th starting pitcher until April 10th.
  21. I’d much rather sign a power, righty OFer like Duvall or Pham than Kiké. Considering the positional versatility of Willi Castro, Kyle Farmer, Austin Martin, and, to some extent, Alex Kirilloff, that Kike can play numerous positions isn’t all that helpful. At this stage, Kike is really only useful against LHP and I’d rather have a player that’s better against LHP than Kike is at this stage of his career or a player that is passable against RHP.
  22. I agree with you in principle -- but if Falvey could spend another $30 million, he would.
