The latest rumors have Blake Snell likely to go to the Angels and Jeff Montgomery waiting for Texas to finalize a new TV deal. That would make each rotation very lefthanded. The Angels have three lefties in their rotation already (Detmers, Sandoval and Anderson) and the Rangers have two (Heaney and Bradford). Both organizations would likely be willing to deal from their new starting rotation depth if they add to the top.

Texas, defending a World Series victory, probably won't trade anyone, even if they sign Montgomery. The have deGrom and Scherzer coming back from injuries and probably not available until midseason. The Angels, OTOH, would be more likely to build their farm system and cashier one of their pitchers.

Tyler Anderson is essentially what DeSclafani was a year ago, similar contract, really good two years ago. The Twins would have to pay less in prospects to acquire Anderson. Patrick Sandoval is 26 and in his arb years. He was also very good in 2022. The third lefty starter for the Angels is Reid Detmers. He is pre-arb so his salary is the minimum, but given that he has four years of team control remaining and struck out more than a hitter per inning, he would be very expensive, in terms of prospects, to acquire.

If the Twins could get Detmers without losing any of their top 5 prospects, I would hope they would do it. Actually, I'd say the same for Sandoval.

I think Montgomery would make Heaney expendable.

Money is gone.

Including the $40 mil from their shiny new TV rights deal?  Where did that go?  (pretty sure I know the answer)

I do agree that they will add a starting pitcher. And we also don’t at all know what the payroll will end up at right?

I'm not sure either would move young pitchers. The Angels should still be building the future, the Rangers are the champs.  Heaney should probably be in the pen anyway. Will Smith left, they could use another lefty there anyway.

Whether or not that's true, it has no bearing on trading for a young pitcher.

Agree. What young pitcher are the Twins considering?

FREE LUZARDO!  FREE LUZARDO!

Three years of control in a good starting pitcher is tremendously expensive. He has more surplus value than any Twin in the organization other than Royce Lewis.

It would take Lewis or two of their best assets to match that value like Jenkins/Varland or Lee/Jeffers. They also would need to find salary space this year perhaps by including Farmer if the Marlins would take him. Should they make a deal sending something like Jenkins, Varland and Farmer?

Tough call.  I would prefer something like Lee, Raya, Farmer and Kep?  Sub in Festa somewhere?  Might not be enough, but Lee has a ton of value.  Hate to move Jenkins or Varland.  Lewis non-starter.
