I would be shocked if this goes forward, but some of these renderings are kind of cool. It’s a great location, but many of the fans here want Reinsdorf to move the team to Nashville, leaving the White Sox name behind for an eventual expansion team. Beyond infrastructure/transit help from the city and state, I don’t see either entity agreeing to taxpayer funding, and I don’t see Reinsdorf building it without that help.

New Comiskey is not that old, it opened in 1991. Baseball stadiums are pretty expensive things to throw away after just 40 years.

The Metrodome was about that, wasn’t it? And that age is 30 yrs, not 40, for both.

I'm assuming it would take a few years to replace it. I still think the Metrodome would be a perfectly acceptable football stadium.

The parks that opened just after new Comiskey (Oriole Park, Coors Field, Progressive Field) should have a longer shelf life.

As I said, I’ll be shocked if this goes through for the White Sox. Their current stadium is serviceable; there just is absolutely nothing special about it, but it’s not a dump. The sight lines are decent, it’s easy to navigate and get to/from, and food and beverage choices are good enough, but I have no idea how the player facilities are. I assume not as bad as Oakland or Wrigley. I’m really on the side that the money spent on new stadiums is just obscene. And why I don’t want to foot the bill and think no tax payer should. But if Reinsdorf can find the funding for this venture, I’d be all for it. And it’s walking distance from where I live. And how cool would it be to take a water taxi to the game?

I haven't read up on all of the plans so maybe they are already working on it. But...

All major league teams should be asking for new stadiums that follow the Truist Park model in Atlanta.

Not just the stadium but the land and the subsequent businesses around the stadium. Restaurants, Bars, Hotels, Shopping, Entertainment can all produce additional revenue for baseball teams.

Revenue beyond the gate receipts, private suites, broadcast rights and hot dogs.

In 30 years time... it may not be that old for a stadium but the game has changed over that time. Teams have figured out how to increase revenue from stadiums over 30 years.

In the end... that is what we are talking about.

Money... Stadiums make money. Some more than others.

Revenue that doesn't have to be shared with any of the other teams. The Pohlads have done well with this renovating the Ford Center and opening the Four Seasons hotel. They also have other properties held by United Properties in Minneapolis.

Comparing the location to Google Maps, I count 17 new high-rises in that rendering.

I'm thinking if Reinsdorf finds a way to get a cut of those developments, he might find it in his heart to avoid taking TOO much public money.

Also, this S Wells street is so new that Google doesn't even have a street view on it yet. I'm sure the tax payers will get reimbursed for this newly built street that will be demo'd.

It’s built and lots of people are asking why it’s not opened yet

EDIT: The road is built ... not the rest of this. The rest of this ... we'll see ... don't know who all will be living there. It's not like Chicago is that short of 'luxury' living ... now, if several of those buildings are affordable housing, maybe

A MLB owner finding a way to not take as much public money as possible.  Hilarious.

Coming from northern Indiana, I like that I can get to the current location without having to deal with as much downtown traffic.

I do like that a potential new location would be close enough to a South Shore commuter line that it would be an option for getting to games.

You aren’t really downtown and is probably just as easy to exit at 18th as it is to exit at 35th/36th. True it won’t be right off the interstate but you aren’t in downtown traffic there, either. But yeah, the south commuter line would be an option in that location. If it ever gets built.

Thanks. I don’t have a good handle on the location.

And yeah, “If it ever gets built” is the key phrase.
