John Bonnes Site Manager Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 In a couple of weeks, we're going to try to do a series of stories on trade targets or trade ideas for the Twins. I'd love to hear the communities ideas, so we compile them, and then work with some of the best in a couple of weeks. So if you have something you're thinking about, PLEASE spend 5-10 minutes and submit it using this form below by Wednesday morning? You may find your idea the source of a story in the upcoming weeks. (You can also share them below, but please use the form, first.)  Thanks! John  Â
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Great idea. And maybe I'm jumping the gun here. But I keep thinking about FA, and 2023, and I wonder about trade options for the Twins as I just don't think they will do a 5yr $125M deal, but I sure wish they would. MY OPINION, the market says the Twins have some bats to move, and some arms other teams like down the line. I wouldn't move Rodriguez unless I had a STUD or potential such for 3yrs. Petty bought Gray for 2! I keep thinking Polanco and Larnach for a Lopez kind of deal. Polanco is only 30yo and a STUD when healthy. Larnach still has ability and potential and that "when he gets here" possibly. Why do I keep thinking Seattle might be the best place to look?
Doctor Gast Verified Member Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 With the TV rights uncertain, I doubt the Twins will go after any big FA. Trades make even more sense this year. IMO SPing is a neccessary need because of this off season losses, especially if Gray turns down his QO. Hitting for pitching is a good recipe.

FilthyMogwai Verified Member Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 I'll start ... Wallner, Kepler and Vazquez to the Yankees for Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole. We can whittle it down from there. I'm reasonable. 😀
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Sorry, not sure I understand the form, as I've never used it previously, and don't have time to investigate at the moment. But I heard so much last season the Mariners need offense, were short from the left side, and have a hole at 2B they'd like to fill. And now they've potentially lost Teoscar Hernandez to FA. So I keep wondering about Polanco and Larnch and maybe a lower level prospect like Urbina for one of Logan Gilbert or George Kirby. The Twins lose a hell of a player in Polanco, still inexpensive the next 2yrs, they lose depth and potential in Larnach who might just need opportunity and a change of scenery, and a top international signing who has talent but hasn't put it together yet. Seattle gets offense, potential future offense, and reportedly has some pitching depth to be able to withstand losing a solid young starter. Fair? TopGunn#22 1

Fair? I don't see the Mariners doing that at all, but if they did, I would jump on it. Kirby or Gilbert would be immediately potential co-ace material with Pablo.Â

Fair? You are on the right track Doc. Just substitute a guy who I love (K. Rosario), add a low level pitcher, and Brooks Lee and this will get the Twins Kirby or Gilbert. Both are brilliant pitchers. It's the next step to take, even if the cost is high.

Actually, if Miranda can see to switch his uniform number he has a chance to be a Twins Hall of Fame player in twelve years ... or so. I don't want to give up Vazquez either because I love how he moves. I can't wait to see the videos of him dancing after next year's World Series triumph.

TopGunn#22 Verified Member Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 This is the problem with trying to do something like this unless you have something to use as the arbiter of a players "value." I usually go to BBTV. What Doc is proposing seems reasonable, until you see that the 27 y/o Kirby has a value of 73.9 and the 26 y/o Kirby has a value of 98.6. As a comparison, Polanco has a value of 4.5. Larnach a value of 7.8 and Urbina a value of 2.3. All of them together are nowhere near the value of either Gilbert or Kirby.  You'd more likely be able to trade for Luis Castillo who only has a value of 20.8 because the Mariners just signed him to a big contract. Guys with big contracts or who are expected to get a big contract are much easier to acquire if you're willing to take on the contract. That's why I proposed this trade about a week ago or so: I don't know what the reaction was on BBTV. Stuff gets buried there pretty quickly. Maybe I should re-post it.  Brewers get: Joe Ryan 39.1 28 years old and cheap for a couple more years and Jorge Polanco 4.5. Total Value: 43.6. Twins get: Corbin Burnes 32.0 29 years old. Makes a decent salary for 2020 but will make BIG BUCKS in 2025 and beyond. Twins also get CF of the future Garrett Mitchell 11.3 value 25 years old. Total Value: 43.3. The Brewers do it because they need a 2B and they are going to undergo a major rebuild with Craig Counsell leaving to manage the division rival Cubs and they will be cutting payroll. Mitchell is quite talented but one area the Brewers have a plethora of young talent is outfielders.  The Twins do it because they know Burnes is better than Joe Ryan will ever be and he's just one year older than Ryan. They also know they have a window opening to be a very good baseball team and they can't "cheap out" and waste that opportunity. So we're willing to throw a lot of money at a 30-year old Burnes after he has a fabulous 2024 at age 29. They want Burnes and Lopez fronting the rotation for the next 5 years. They want to win a World Series. Â

After all, he'll only hit 45 HR without that short porch and you KNOW he'll miss 40 games minimum. I don't mind Cole as the 6th starter/bullpen arm but I'd probably push to get King too. Might need to throw in a rookie baller to get it done though.Â

BTV is interesting but just for kicks. Remember they had Pablo Lopez as twice as valuable as Luis Arraez. That trade worked for both teams. Speaking of Miami. Edward Cabrera is out of options and struggled this past year. The Marlins might see Trevor Larnach and Josh Winder as a fair exchange. Perhaps the Twins could sweeten the deal with a guy like T. Schobel. Â
stringer bell Verified Member Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 I don't know where to find trade values, but I'd like to suggest acquiring one of St. Louis' excess outfielders in exchange for Trevor Larnach and a pitcher. Dylan Carlson is the guy I think fits best with the Twins. He's a switch hitter with good splits against left handers and he's center field capable. The arbitration estimate is only $1.8M. Adding Carlson would make Larnach expendable IMHO, but Carlson would be Option A to fill center field if/when Buxton can't play there. Larnach and Festa might be an overpay, so perhaps the Twins could get a high-ceiling minor leaguer (not on the 40-man) in addition. DocBauer 1
harmony55 Verified Member Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler to Seattle for righthander Emerson Hancock and infielder Jose Caballero If the Twins plan to reduce payroll, as reported, the Twins would save about $20 million in 2024 with a trade of short-term assets Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler to Seattle for six years each of two minimum-salary players. Righthander Emerson Hancock, the No. 6 pick in the 2020 draft, debuted this year with three respectable starts. Jose Caballero is a versatile infielder who in 104 games this year posted 2.4 bWAR, .343 OBP and a team-leading seven DRS with 26 stolen bases in 29 attempts. Baseball Trade Values calls the proposal a fair trade.
