Love Farmer. But I don't understand him coming in to the game as a PH against a RH RP. Shouldn't Julien have hit there and then Farmer come in as a defensive replacement?

The blown call in the 10th remains mind boggling to me! I mean, it's so bad that it should result in demotion or fining. (Which I know doesn't happen). I mean, the initial call was fine, bang bang play. But the reviews were very clear and concise.

Is it just my imagination, or has umpiring sunk to new lows this year?

And yet, he pulled Julien who was 2 for 3 against Whitlock (and a left against right matchup) for Farmer to set up a right against right matchup.  Huh?

Farmer had been put in the game in the top of the inning for his defense as they were attempting to hold a lead late.

Edit: should've kept reading posts and would've seen someone already said this. My bad for the repeat.

I believe Farmer had actually entered the game in the top of the 8th.

The walk off hit was his second PA of the game.

He had entered in the top of the 7th for defense. Which lead him to hit against Whitlock in a righty-righty matchup in the bottom of the 7th, which I believe was the complaint of the poster I responded to. They appeared to think he was inserted into the game in the bottom of the 7th as a pinch hitter when he'd already been inserted in the top of the inning for his defense.

FYI, he'd entered the game in the top of the 7th as the defensive replacement. Then hit in Julien's spot in the bottom of the 7th.

So gratifying to see that someone on this roster had the ability to realize that all that was needed was a base hit, and Farmer in the 10th just took it back up the middle as opposed to trying to jerk the pitch for homer.

Simple things. Maybe the start of some better things.

Also, Julien was NOT pinch hit for. Farmer entered the game as a defensive replacement.  Facts do matter

I stand corrected.  Thanks.  I had recorded the game and it was about 1:00AM here in Maine when it happened.  I may have nodded off for a moment when the defensive change was made.  And the Red Sox announcers weren't much help.  They said it was Julien batting.

Umpire sunk and is still sinking since both umpire leagues merged together  ( american and national leagues ) ...

That's when I think the umpiring started to drift southwards and put their jobs are in jeopardy  with robots replacing them and their incompetence  ...

Jim Joyce taking away a no hitter calling a guy safe when he was two steps off the base and was clearly out , before replay reviews ...
