Twins midseason top 20 prospects by The Athletic

Yesterday Aaron Gleeman published a new overview of Twins top 20 prospects after this year's draft.

Having 4 SS and 0 C on that list caught my attention. Here's the breakdown by position depth:

C - 0

IF - 7*

OF - 3*

RHP - 8

LHP - 3

* Austin Martin is listed both as IF & OF

I think Martin is too high and CES is too low. The pitching does not look good with Balazovic going backwards. Should've traded him at the deadline last year.

That list does not excite me… there are some good players there but all the starting pitchers we used to hope for are dropping? Eek…

There are some really exciting players: Lewis, Lee, Rodriguez, and CES will hit and I think Raya and Prielipp will be fun to watch. Many of the prospects have players in front of them and trades can be made.

I think it is a pretty good list and I agree with most of it.  I have to say it is odd to see the pitching thinned out from the beginning of this year especially in the top ten with some guys no longer even in the top 20.  I don't see Sands or Henriquez even in this list and they were arms we were hoping could at least be brought up and down. Balazovich fell from like top 3 to barely number 10 and he could be lower than that.  Canterino has also fallen out of the top 5 all the way down to 14.  Duran and Winder don't even feel like they should be prospects anymore with all the time they have spent at the MLB level.  We are down to SWR and Varland as our top two right now.  It looks like the pitching pipeline broke at top level this year.

Another nice group of hitters coming up though so the offense should be in good shape for a while yet.

Draftees do not make my top prospect list.  Let's see some pro action first.  The list is thinning as you expect with Kiriloff, Larnach, Gordon, Miranda, Celestino plying MLB minutes.  But the disappointment is in pitching.   And that is where we need our prospects right now.

You are very nice to do so, but as someone who pays for The Athletic I wish you wouldn't have done that.
