Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Just saw they dealt a 4th for him.....that seems REALLY STEEP. We'll see, I guess. They had to get a TE somehow, with their best hurt.

That might be an area we see them swing a deal. You can't play 2 TE sets 98% of the time and field Conklin and Dillon in those roles. Nice call https://www.dailynorseman.com/2021/8/31/22650867/minnesota-vikings-trade-new-york-jets-chris-herndon

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Reading it might not be a 4th.....I guess we'll see soon. Also, Browning cut....so they only two I actively wanted cut are gone.....

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Griffen cut, but he'll be added back soon......

To be blunt, he looked quite a bit more chunky since his last time in a Vikings uniform. I know he got a sack in the preseason game but he was unblocked. Anyone could have gotten that sack.

He wasn't unblocked, he timed the snap count so perfectly that the LT had no chance of blocking him. He only played 4 snaps which resulted in 1 sack and 2 pressures, one of which led to another sack. He's way better than any of our other DEs not named Hunter at the moment. I don't know why they bothered to keep both Weatherly and Holmes, neither of which are any good.

I thought he was an athlete who could bulk up enough to play the 3 tech....but he looks both slow and small for it. He's a complete waste of a roster spot IMO. This week off before the season starts is going to change this cutdown process. There is going to be a lot of IR maneuvering we haven't seen before. Right now we have no long-snapper, need more TE depth, have too many LBs, and could use an OL or a QB too.

They already got their TE depth: It's an overpay for a guy with a ton of natural talent, but has converted very little of that into actual good TE play.

I'd be happy to give Herndon a go with the idea that he has never had good QB play. But still, a 4th seems like a lot for a guy who was probably on the bubble to be cut anyway.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Well, it's a fourth for him and a sixth, and the jets paid most of his pay. For a team near the cap like the Vikings, that matters.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Looks like Irv Smith is out for the year. Sigh.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Author Posted September 1, 2021 Makes sense why the trade happened now. Kind of a desperation Trade again similar to Bradford. At least it’s not a 1st round pick this time…

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Ellifson is a guy from my neck of the woods, so normally I'd be excited to see him on the Vikings. But the Jaguars and Urban Meyer admitted that being unvaccinated played a role in their roster decisions. If we find out that he's unvaccinated, like his dopey buddy Carson Wentz, Rick Spielman will have used up his last chance with me.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Author Posted September 1, 2021 The punter Colquitt was released. I don’t think we have a long snapper employed either. Special teams is off to a roaring start for the season.

TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Jesus, this team is a parody at this point. At this point signing Sidney Rice to play TE seems like something worth gambling on in Vegas.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 4 put on the IR.....100%, imo, Griffen, the long snapper, and the new TE. And a new punter. Neither Barr nor Darrisaw on the injured list....
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 And, Griffen and the LS have been re-signed.......now they need a punter.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Here is how my depth chart is looking: It sounds like Colquitt will be back and Mannion will be added to the roster or practice squad. They will also need another RB and perhaps another tackle.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 So, the Vikings found a new punter today:
a-wan Verified Member Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 The need to have bad backup QBs to keep Cousins happy and secure as the starter is so stupid. And Herndon is unvaccinated so he has to sit out 5 days.

We made our bed letting our team leaders Smith, Thielen, and Kirk go unvaccinated. If they made any other roster moves with that caveat in mind, the irony would be rich. They did the opposite by rewarding Harry the Hitman with more guaranteed money.

I almost want them to fail out of spite for the reckless and carless GM. Zimmer needs to call him out directly.
