Is Dec.2 the last day that Rosario is a Twin?

Is Dec.2 the last day that Rosario is a Twin? On "Gleaman & the Geek" , Gleaman stated that Ken Rosenthal wrote an article about each team's must sign player's    extention. For MN it was Eddie Rosario, WOW I'm sure that blew the socks off many Twins fans. There are many Rosario haters in our camp which influences the rest of us to relinquish the fact that Rosario will be out right released. On "Gleaman & the Geek" it was not discussed why Rosenthal wrote this & I haven`t read it. But it made perfect sense, even though Rosario`s stock is not worth very much to many Twins fans, it is still worth something to the rest of MLB. So why let Rosario go for nothing, w/o any control where he goes (he could likely go to CLE, CWS, KC or Det, where he could very likely make MN pay dearly). If we make signing Rosario to a team friendly extension a priority, we have him to start the season & later available to get someone in trade   & we can control where he goes.

Is Dec.2 the last day that Rosario is a Twin? I hope not!

It was actually Jim Bowden who wrote the article, not Rosenthal and it wasn't the first time he wrote something that made me shake my head.

As for keeping Rosario, it isn't like he is a bad player but he also isn't that much above average for a left fielder. And if you consider that he comes at a pretty high price compared to his production (be it via arbitration or extension) you might not want to pay that. Would be hard to find a willing trade partner for the same reason.

And that's not even considering all the cheap corner outfield prospects the Twins have. Would keeping Rosario make sense if you had plenty of payroll space? Sure, why not, but the Twins don't exactly have that, especially with Covid further restricting the budget. The money might be better spent elsewhere where the Twins have fewer other options.

Although I understand why its possible Rosario will depart the Twins this winter. I have often commented that I do not expect the Twins to JUST release him for nothing. I am not certain what the procedure is for December 2, but I think the Twins either offer him a contract or release him. If that is fact, I fully expect them to offer him a contract and then either work out some type of 1 year or longer deal or go to arbitration.

If the Twins don't receive any offers that make sense, I expect Eddie to be in left field come opening day.  And yes, they still can get one of Rooker or Kirilloff onto the roster and both if Cruz isn't resigned, which is becoming more likely as I understand they have pulled their 1-year offer off the table.

Using 2019-2020 and 500 PAs - Rosario ranked 29th in wRC+ among players categorized as LFers by Fan Graphs. Some of those guys are not full-time LFers. Regardless, I would hope we can improve on that performance in 2021 and beyond.

Ratings are an interesting thing. ESPN has Rosario rated as the 2nd best hitting OF in the AL Central behind Eloy Jimenez and 7th in the AL. They use a number of metrics from WAR, ESPN and Elias. It's only based on hitting from 2020 They list Buxton 17th (5th in the AL Central), Cave 26th (8th in the ALC) and  Kepler 40th (15th). It kind of makes sense since Rosario can hit and Kepler can't; the reverse is true in the field. Baseball reference lists the Twins by WAR in 2020 as Buxton 1.9, Maeda and Cruz 1.6, Rosario .9, Kepler .8, Berrios .7, Polanco 0.0, and Sano -0.2.

My only point is that Rosario is one of the top 5 most valuable players on the team. It doesn't make sense to me that the Twins would just cut him.  One year at $8-10m is worthwhile for him.

Link? I would like to see what they rated.

I also would not base much on 60 games. Take a look at 2019 or 2018-2019. In our last full season (2019) Rosario was 11th in WAR and that's just among position players. We also had several 7 pitchers with higher WAR. So, in the last full season he was the 18th most valuable Twin, at least where WAR is the measure.
