Loek van Mil Dies In Car Crash

Unless there was another accident, the news article I saw said he suffered a critical head injury while hiking in Australia last December.  Headline says he died from 'fatal injury.'  Nowhere does it mention a car crash, unless that happened recently.

 

Regardless, what a shock.  My prayers to his family and loved ones.

Yes, that's what I saw too. What a terrible thing. I always wanted to see him play. Damn. Too young.

Yes, after seeing that article I see he resumed baseball.  Regardless, what a loss to his family and friends.

Van Mil’s family, through the Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation (KNBSB), announced the death of Loek on Monday, 29 July, as a “fatal accident”. KNBSB Technical Director Tjerk Smeets told the Dutch daily newspaper De Telegraaf that he can’t provide a further explanation “at the request of the family”.

I think after serious head injury, it's possible there were complications (blood clots, etc).

That's very sad to hear.

 

He never made it to the Show, but he battled his tail off in the minors for years.  

 

What a tragedy to be taken away far too soon.

From the various articles I read, this is what it sounded like. He also had recently retired from baseball just prior to his death citing the accident back in December as the reason.
