All's well that ends well, I guess... and a few more gray hairs for Rocco Baldelli.

Self inflicted IMHO.

Actually, I suspect that when it comes to in-game decisions, Baldelli isn't doing a lot of worrying. He's playing by the numbers.

And he's smart enough to realize that even if you lose tonight, playing by the numbers wins in the long run.

May is such a tease. Great stuff, throws hard, good breaking ball, but he just can't maintain command for any length of time.

Exactly. Been in the league too long to still have erratic command. Somebody teach this guy to ride a unicycle! Tightrope walking! Cartwheels! His balance point sucks!

Some games it just seems like you're destined to lose. This is one of them.

Not letting you off the hook tonight FlauerPauer!!!  Eat CROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Boy, Trevor has the potential to be a good reliever, he's just gotta figure out how to reign in his command.

But I liked that they used him over Parker there, but I wonder what's up with Taylor... or Baldelli felt like playing with fire and giving May some high leverage experience.

The bullpen has been shaky but the starting pitching recently has caused collateral damage. Getting some more innings from the starters would strengthen the bullpen.

I think it's a matter of Baldelli knowing he needs to find another reliable arm out of the pen sooner rather than later.

I really hope there is a reason for using May instead of Rogers or Parker here...

I think the FO has been eying May for closer for a long time. I remember for a short time it looked like he was learning to nail all four corners with his heater, but that level of command has been elusive since then.

Yeah it’s not like the FO doesn’t know we need BP help. If Rocco was proving a point it’s pretty redundant at this point. Bad pitching management.

It was actually the best kind of pitching management. Yes, it was scary and hair-raising... but they won.

Using their third or fourth best reliever.

Which means that Rogers gets another day of rest. And if you have a really short bullpen, you try to give your front 2-3 guys as much rest as possible. Molitor did the opposite and we all saw how that panned out through the dog days.

Of course, I doubt Baldelli expected May to get rattled out there after giving up two singles. But that's all he did... give up two singles.

It wasn't the Pohlad family!!!!!

Such a great example of how the umpires 10-15% wrong calls truly affect the game. Encarnación really got screwed. It should have been bases loaded with no outs. We get this one, but who knows how it really should have gone. I don't really like it, even with the win. I don't like any team to win on a call like that.

Oh god i hope FO is smarter than that. May is Joe Nathan with less command. Less stuff. And well, he’s just not very good. Maybe the staff will “fix” him but he’s been in the league a long time. We need a better closer option than May lol

Good point, and although he looked shaky, Trevor May got the outs he needed to get. Psychologically, he now has that in his memory banks. He can do it, he HAS done it. He just needs to refine his command of that fastball. Next time he closes, see if he looks slightly more confident.

That happens.

He was pretty shaky against Encarnacion and got straight-up lucky with that third strike.

But outside that Encarnacion plate appearance, he was just fine. We're all riled up because of those two singles but guess what? Singles happen in baseball. No ball was drilled against May and he made a couple of hitters weakly pop up.

You got the win!

Thanks Carole!  It was a tough grind but I just felt the momentum turning.  I'm on a little oxygen right now but overall feeling fine.  Tomorrow is going to be great. Just remember, you gotta take it one pitch at a time.

He bas the stuff! For whatever reason, the May we saw last year just hasn t been the same guy we've seen this year, except in stretches. Here's hoping tonight is a big boost for his confidence!
