h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 It would be nice if these top 5 farm systems actually create a top 5 MLB team, eh? Fun to read about, though. adorduan 1

Tomj14 Verified Member Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Yes, you could. But something feels different this time, at least to me. There seems to be a continual emphasis on strengthening the system. Not just all the moves they did last July, but the continual moves that haven't made big splashes. You know, moves like bringing Pearson in last spring, and others. Seems like they have a plan and are working it. To me, that's how building a successful organization will happen. It appears to me that they also have been more successful in the past couple drafts, although I will agree we won't know for several years. It also helps to be drafting high, however, their management of the signing pool two years ago was beautiful to watch...getting Enlow and others after making the surprise pick of Lewis, who just may turn out to be the best choice of all.I really, really hope you are right, but as a fan of all Minnesota sports I have been living off of hope for years and all it has gotten me is the Vikings ripping out my heart and the Twins saying just wait for the next group of prospects to lead us to the promise land.I do really like they have been stock piling high upside guys improving the odds of guys making it. (which is better than drafting relief pitchers)
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 When thinking about this kid I keep thinking about Robin Yount also, although Yount didn't have Lewis' speed. Won't go back and look, but Yount was up when he was still 18, wasn't he? Also, Seth, love how these are presented with the 'blue style baseball card look.' Can we please fast forward to late 2020 or early 2021 when all five of these top five are playing at Target Field. Really am kind of giddy thinking about them in a Twins uniform. That's the work of Brock Beauchamp, who did a great job with the graphics! ashbury and MN_ExPat 2
Penthang Verified Member Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 This has me picturing an infield of 3B-Lewis. SS-Javier, 2B-Polanco, and 1B-Sano/Larnach/Rooker in a year or two. That could be a really strong group with Gordon as the utility guy.
bird Verified Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 It's a huge step up from the pj's they wore on July 4th the year before: 2018: 2017: Two wrongs don't make a right. gil4 1
Dantes929 Verified Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Couldn't you say the same thing in 2013, when the prospects list was Sano, Hicks, Arcia, Buxton, Gibson, Meyer, Rosario, May, Kepler, Polanco and others?and yet they haven't been one of the best teams in baseball year after year, let alone if one year.I love me prospects, but that is all they are until they fail or make it, there is no guarantee of anything. (Well except most will fail to live up to expecations)If it was a sure thing I wouldn't even bother watching. The story on your list of prospects is hardly complete. In fact, its not even to the mid point. Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Kubel were a pretty good core. Puckett, Hrbek, Viola, Gaetti, Gladden were all 27 or older in 1987. Before that ( and a few after that) they were losing teams. Current guys are all 25 or less. Not all prospects pan out but everyone that pans out was once a prospect.

h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 (edited) Remembering back to those Brewers teams, Yount had a partner in Paul Molitor. Could we have some of the same with Lewis-Javier? I know lots of people have been hammering away at the new FO, but I for one like what they are doing. No, they aren't throwing gas on the fire to get it done overnight. But there is something good about a steady approach towards turning this team into one of the best in baseball...year after year after year. At this point, I would sell the future for one year before I die, and hoping that doesn't happen first. Just one. Just one shining flaming season. Just one World Series Championship. Just ONE! ...... and hasn't the slow and steady been the approach.... like...... forever? Edited February 17, 2019 by h2oface

Just ONE! ...... and hasn't the slow and steady been the approach.... like...... forever?Like all of us ole guys, I too have the hope to see one more championship. As for the steady approach, I see this group having a plan that is different than that of a man I hold great respect for. They seem to be more flexible in using all the tools available to them as the game is currently structured. Like you I hope, and pray, that they will get it done and not take too long in doing it.
