A double prospecting opportunity? Kemp

If we absorbed the money owed Kemp, we could expect a prospect to be added to the salary dump if the dodgers wanted to trade Kemp when they sign Bryce Harper.

In July we can get prospects by agreeing to pay the remainder or most of the remaining salary.

so we can get a prospect for acquiring him and trading him again.  Would it be worth it to do something like this?

What kind of prospects could we expect in either scenario?  Kemp only has next year left on his contract.  San Diego is paying 2.5 million and he is owed 21.75 total.

So comparing the SD trade for Phil Hughes SD acquired a 74th pick if I remember right for 8 million.  so for us to make the trade worth it we would need to get a pick that is worth 10-18 million we are saving LA and when we trade him a 4-5 million prospect minimum If the prospect capital on both sides of the trades can total more than the 19 million we would be paying then we get his production at DH for 4 months and the overlap as our surplus value.  Since we want to Horde as many prospects as we can, which ones would be worth that type of cash up front?  someone With the value of a 65-80 pick in the draft and a 100-120th pick in the draft or we can expect at least 2 - 3 WAR from a more developed prospect and In July when we trade him we can expect maybe a 100th - 120th pick in the draft for the July trade or a .5 -.75 WAR value prospect.

Is this a good strategy?  Are there others we could do something creative like this in an acquisition?

His defense is said to be poor, so if he was on my roster he'd be my fulltime DH. He might flourish in that role. And he might be a small upgrade to the righty DH-types we have now who cost about $5M.

His contract is for only the one more year (I thought it was for longer), so I don't imagine LA is utterly desperate to dispose of him. That limits the kind of prospect they would package with him.

He's probably worth $10M as a DH, so you'd be paying an additional $10M for a prospect who is only decent.

It's a good thought but I'm not seeing the fit.

Kemp, Crawford, Gonzales, Beckett are all reasons Friedman got the job in LA.

The costs of those contracts costs a lot of money. They never gave away much talent to get them, nor to get rid of them.  So if Harper becomes a Dodger, Kemp's contract is irrelevant. The dismal merits of Kemp need not be discussed.

Good idea in theory, but I doubt the Twins FO would want to take on his salary, even if we get a prospect in return. The only way a deal like that would be worth it is if we get Yadier Alvarez in return, which is highly unlikely (maybe at the deadline tho).
