Reviewing last year's FO trades

Actually, Darvish still has time to make good on his contract. Likewise Cobb. (Arrieta is doing fine in Philly.) Of the "big four" free agent pitchers this offseason, Lynn's was the contract that was the biggest fail.

This front office would have been better off keeping Lynn for the final two months than trading him for Yankee cast offs.

Only one team came in 2nd and that was the good guys. Why don't you go back and review the Darvish meltdown thread. You figured very prominently in it.

Moderator's note: OK, you'd think I wouldn't have to say this by now to a veteran poster, but DON'T MAKE IT BE ABOUT OTHER POSTERS. Score's not being kept by a panel of judges, and everyone could cherrypick everyone else's posting history for bloopers or bad outcomes, making this Bickerfest Daily instead of Twins Daily. Moreover, this is not a Darvish or FA thread - look again at the thread title.

I don't know about that. Cobb's deal isn't less of a fail because it's long -- if anything, the reverse is true. Think about it this way: Lynn's contract would be worse if it was longer. As it was, he scuffled, but it was low risk.

They inherited few movable players of value....why would we expect anything else of the trade results than "meh"?

I'm not sure we should expect anything, one way or another. I do think it's fair to look at it and see if the FO's moves were right. The FO threw in the towel on a playoff team last year to essentially get Littell, the only player we got that even made our top 30 prospects. And that move was questionable at the time and doesn't look much better a year out.

I have no idea if the moves we've made in the last few days are good or if Palecios for Odorizzi works out. We'll eventually find out. But I do push back on the idea that they inherited few movable players of value. They inherited 10 former top 100 prospects under 25. They could have moved some of them, had they been inclined. I think they correctly didn't. They could have moved Dozier for some Dodgers pu-pu platter last year. I think it's good that they didn't do that either.

Sorry, my post came off accusatory, this is a good recap. It's just sorta meh in terms of impact.

Overall the trades made were fairly minor in nature. Littell and Moya look to have a chance to contribute for the Twins which is about all you can ask for when dealing away players on expiring contracts and fringe prospects.

The one big criticism I have of the front office is their handling of the high upside relievers they inherited. I think it was a mistake to let guys like Randy Rosario, Nick Burdi, and JT Chargois go for nothing.

There were 3 trades that stand out.  Ynoa and $4 million for Littell and Enns.  This was a fair trade with potential.  $4 million is a little steep however.

Murphy for Moya.  Murphy doesn't seem to be much more than a back up C.  If Moya turns into a solid 7th/8th inning pitcher then we win this one.

Kintzler for 500k international space and Watson.  I don't see Watson being anything more than a LOOGY at best though I could be wrong.  The 500 k International spending was the key to this trade depending on what they did with these funds.  These funds plus more were turned into Pearson and that C from Seattle.  I liked those trades.

Now for the moves I didn't like.

Letting Chargois go for nothing.  as much as we had invested in him we should have been more patient.  I am fine with Burdi going since he is out till 2019 and his medicals are not promising as Atlanta didn't want to take a chance on him after reviewing his medicals.

Letting Rodriguez go as a minor league free agent.  He was only a pitcher for 3 seasons and succeeding in AA.  We let him go as a minor Free agent for nothing.  I did not expect him to be as good as he has been but i thought he would be a solid 3-5 starter more likely a 4th-5th starter.  I think we let him go due to the volume of back end starters we had at the time.

I never would have guessed that Goodrum would have the season he had so I cant complain about letting him leave as a minor league free agent.

No. Whatsamatta Yu and Cobb's contracts are worse and it's not even close. The return on Lynn looks fine.

Twins were 2nd in the bidding for Yu....they clearly wanted him.

Goodrum has K'd 32% of the time and has an OBP .310. His ,448 Slg% is pretty good.

Would he even had been on the Twins until Sano got sent down?
