nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 So both Florida pitchers fell and KC gets them both? Is that a coincidence or was it gamesmanship?

terrydactyls Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Check back in 2021 and let me know how this pick turned out.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 It never works out that way.Maybe not, but I'm thinking the local sample might be tainting your opinion. If we were in St. Louis we'd probably think otherwise. Looking at the board for the Twins, Blaine Knight is my choice.

And regardless, Kansas City is pretty low on the list of clubs that I'd expect to hit on a bunch of college arms in one draft.

drivlikejehu Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 If they hit on half, it's a great draft. That would count as 'a bunch.' More likely is one or none.
AZTwin Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Another bat guy that will probably land at 1B or DH.... Any chance at all this guy sticks at catcher?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Fangraphs... Big catcher with non-zero chance to stay back there and above-average raw power
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 That would count as 'a bunch.' More likely is one or none.Isn't that true of every pick? I'm not sure what your point is.
Einstein1 Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Fangraphs...Big catcher with non-zero chance to stay back there and above-average raw powerSounds like a reach. Saving the money for someone later?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Sounds like an under slot pickTo what end? They can't save much money at this point.
drivlikejehu Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Isn't that true of every pick? I'm not sure what your point is. You're the one that commented on my earlier post, so I can't help you there. All I said was that pitching prospects are too unpredictable to think we'll see several of them move up quickly.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Rooker, now these two. They appear to have a type. PseudoSABR 1
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Ugh catcher, baseball's equvilant to a kicker. At least he can hit I guess. Dman 1
AZTwin Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 To what end? They can't save much money at this point.Slot value is $1.1M. If we can get this guy for $500K, we might be able to land a good high school arm tomorrow. Need to call around tonight. KirbyDome89 1
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Local kid Sean Hjelle to Giants 2-2. Wow, I didn't even realize Hjelle was getting drafted. I went to school with him for a year or two back in high school. Now I have two Mahtomedi kids to pull for (Baumann with the Orioles) in the minors. Great stuff!

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Ugh catcher, baseball's equvilant to a kicker. At least he can hit I guess. You do realize catchers have a massive impact on MLB games compared to kickers, right?
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Rooker, now these two. They appear to have a type.It looks like they like they want to get the best bats and position isn't given heavy consideration. That's my position as well.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 It looks like they like they want to get the best bats and position isn't given heavy consideration. That's my position as well.Gonna need pitchers too. Or be willing to trade highly valued prospects.
