Unreal. Can’t wait for the 30 for 30. I mean, this team started from scratch. The poise they’ve shown in the longer term, matched with the resiliency they’ve demonstrated game by game...unreal. Go Knights. Give em hell.

Love this team... I hope the Wild are taking notes. The Golden Knights saw an opportunity to draft a goalie who's helped the Pens win 3 cups and built around him.

Let's be real here though....the Penguins were ecstatic to get rid of Fleury. He, arguably, hadn't been their number one goalie in quite some time.

 

Tuch had serious issues with foot-speed.  This is a classic case of putting spare parts together and somehow making a miracle out of it.

Yeah, some sort of voodoo magic happened in Vegas this year with all of the spare parts coming together.

 

I don't know if the story getting rid of Fleury was for salary or performance reasons. He's played in huge playoff games before and came through... He's done it again this season. I'm a big proponent of finding a goalie that can handle the heat of playoff hockey... Dubnyk can't take the heat.

It's almost like Winnipeg wore down after the early series against the Wild. It seems like each series thereafter was less physical than the last and Vegas just used it's speed to beat the Jets. That and Fleury was outstanding throughout the series.

Goalies tend to be a bit more erratic so it was a good gamble (no pun intended) by Vegas.  But Pitt absolutely loved that they took him off their hands.  Matt Murray took his job in the playoffs a few years back and he was basically a part-time goalie.

 

He goes to Vegas and blows up.  I'm with you about Dubnyk probably not being the right guy for this team.

I prefer it when the expansion teams take their lumps for a few years while the city is just happy to have a team. The New Orleans Saints having their first winning season in year 21 might have been a bit extreme, but maybe a five-year build to semi-contention is fine. The Cup still hasn't come to Minnesota and you want Vegas to get it in year 1? Go Caps! (They have suffered an appropriate amount of pain.)

I think that’s a pretty bitter stance to take. Vegas is the best team in the West. They took down the Kings, the Sharks, and the Preds. They deserve their chance.

I'd be perfectly happy with Vegas going down in a ball of flames to Washington. As should any self respecting fan of long suffering hockey teams to never have won the Cup. 

 

Having that fan base celebrate a Stanley Cup in their first year of existence makes me want to vomit. 

 

 

And yes, I am bitter. I'm ok with that.

Yeah, I guess I wouldn't have said I'm bitter but maybe that's what it is. We've seen expansion teams in all the major sports in the last several decades and this was the first time that the league catered to the new guy on the block. I'm not sure if it was in deference to the powerful new ownership group, or more likely, if it was a fear that they'd put a team in a market they weren't sure could handle it, but no other franchises had the league bend over backwards for them like this.

 

Now with their success you can believe that all the other leagues will be interested in expansion teams that win right away. Can't wait to see how the league lets a new team in Portland (or maybe they'll just copy cat and give one to LV too) leverage the new rules to make demands from the Twins.

In fairness, it's not like people looked at their roster after the expansion draft and said, "Wow, this team is a Stanley Cup contender."

 

Fleury got hot in the playoffs again... And the spare parts from other teams meshed together to make an improbable run.

Yes they were. 

 

That guy has a magic horseshoe so far up his ass nobody can possibly find it. 

 

Seems to be falling out against the Caps though, fingers crossed.

So far this has been one of the most entertaining Finals I've seen in many a year.

 

Nothing like the unbridled hunger of 2 teams going at it who have never won a cup, and each have only a single player who has won one. 

 

Great direct attacking hockey, with even a slight edge: when Haula is a bad guy, well, just wow.

Las Vegas better find their forecheck again or the Caps are gonna win this.  As a fan of the Red

Wings through out a terrible 80's and then having a great team in the 90's that had to suffer through some stinging defeats (swept in finals by Devils, knocked out by Avs in conf. finals the next year after winning 62 games) before finally winning it all, I'm pulling for the Caps to finally win one for their fans.
