Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Wolves. They have a clear path to dominance for the next 4-6 years. They’re the best MN team right now, and it’s only the beginning. As soon as the warriors core begins to splinter, it’s on.
Doomtints Verified Member Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 I have a suspicion that the VIkings are about to begin a 1970s-like dynasty. Mind you, they didn't win a championship back then.....
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Twins ... they already have. Or do you mean who will win one next?
TwinsTerritory Provisional Member Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Putting odds on this is tough, but it's sure fun that none of the 4 teams would be put at less than 15%! I imagine 12-13 months ago, the odds would have looked completely different! My October 2016 oddsWild 40%Vikings 40%Wolves 10%Twins 10%
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 I'd lean towards none for the short term.... Going off of ownership and their willingness to go "all-in" the Vikings and Wild have the best shot. The Vikings are set up to make a good run the next 3-4 years. The Wild have another season or 2 to make their mark before they have to rebuild. The Twins need to get extremely lucky to compete with the big boys... And basketball is already pre determined. Sorry, but the Pups have no chance against Golden State.
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 It may well be the Vikes. I would have no idea. All I know is the Wild have a 0% chance with the current core, and the Twins are currently facing an Everest of an uphill battle. Adding Otani and/or Darvish would be amazing, but still...there are so many good teams in MLB. Baseball is just so effing hard. I’d put a little bit of money on the Wolves for 2020. But I’m not a betting man, so I don’t know how possible that even is.

Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 By which measure are the Wolves the best MN team right now?9-5 is good for third in the indomitable West. Their best player just turned 22. I have zero interest in football.

I'm hopeful about the Wolves future, but they are a sixth of the way through the season, and haven't had a winning season in ages.
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 RE: Vikings - Clearly, I realize that, which is why I made that note in my post. Go Vikings!, or whatever...
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 RE: Vikings - Clearly, I realize that, which is why I made that note in my post. Go Vikings!, or whatever...Ah, I misunderstood what you meant by that. Got it.
kab21 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 I am less convinced about the Wolves. They are not close to the best team right now and I don't really believe their record. One issue is that they really haven't beaten any really good teams aside from a Spurs team w/o Kawhi (and Parker). The Thunder are a mess. The big thing though will be whether or not Butler resigns in 2 years. I think they might end up being capped out with 2 max players and guys like Teague and Dieng still around. At that point they become the next version of the Blake/Paul Clippers that were always good/great but never finalists. The Vikings might be the safe choice but I am going to say the Twins. I think Falvey/Levine really surprise us this winter with a trade/signing or two that really strengthens the pitching staff. And there might be several really good baseball teams right now but the playoffs are less predictable than the NBA where more skilled teams generally win. In baseball you only need to reach a certain level (the Twins are not there yet) and then get a few lucky breaks.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Yeah this Wolves team isn't even close yet. They just got blown out by the awful Hornets. With zero desire to play any defense, their ceiling is good, but not great.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Vikings, Twins, huge cavernous gap times one million, the other two teams.
Musk21 Community Moderator Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 It's a crapshoot, I'd say Vikings, Wild, Twins, Wolves. Based on talent alone, Wolves might have the best chance of all of them, but based on the path to get there, one of the other MN teams might luck their way into one first. - I've been burned too many times by the Vikings, but as of now, they have as good of a chance as anyone in the NFC of going to the Super Bowl this year. - I'm not a hockey fan, but I thought the Wild were pretty good? Seems that if you make the playoffs in the NHL and have a hot goalie, you can make a championship run. - Good step forward this year, but the Twins are not quite there I don't think. - Wolves are probably going to make the playoffs this year (finally!), but are still a couple years away from actually contending. Not many upsets in the NBA playoffs.

Not many upsets in the NBA playoffs.I think the Vikings have far more talent than the Wolves. The problem might be that they don't have the most talent at the most important position. Towns is very talented, but needs to figure out how to play at least a modicum of defense. Butler is good. Wiggins might be the most overrated player to come through this town, after that its all mediocre at best. The Wild have talent, but the problem is they lack high end talent. They don't have 1 star, let alone the 2 or 3 that legit cup teams have.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 I don't think being the "best" and actually winning a championship are co-dependent. There are always plenty of really good NBA teams but it's next to impossible for new teams to break through and get a championship. I think the Wolves are a least likely only because of the nature of their league.

One good but not great team can go on a run and win the championship but you need to truly be a top 2-3 team to win in the NBA. For the Wolves it really comes down to what Towns and Wiggins develop into and whether or not Butler resigns. They have the core talent if some defense develops but right now it is difficult to see them being anything better than the Clippers. As a fan I will be very happy with a run of near greatness (or very goodness) like the Clippers had.
