Big hit for Joe. By the way, I haven't been paying close attention (I've been drinking per the norm), but was molly getting fresh with geren in the pregame lineup exchange?

Looked like it.  My guess is "Roberts doesn't have the ***** to come out here tonight?  Bush league."

You ****** up, Molly.  Just own it.

Well, while I would love to pile on Paul for screwing up, reports are mixed as to who is to blame. If that is what was said at the exchange, good for Paul. Wussy move not coming out by Roberts.

What exactly does the phrase "Bush League" refer to?

Is this some Texas reference to the former President of the United States?

What happened that was so, umm, interesting?

I've not been able to really follow the games with the Dodgers.

Never mind, I checked the write up.

Weird.

The reports are really only mixed if you listen to those with an...agenda.

Although I do agree about Roberts not coming out to home plate, but I have zero problem with him coming out last night to point out Molitor's screw up.  I'd want Molitor to do the same thing.

Do any other old-timers remember Chris Taylor, the Iowa State and Olympic heavyweight wrestler who was about 7-0 tall and 400 pounds? I can't help thinking of him when they talk about the Dodgers' Chris Taylor. It would have been interesting to see him play baseball. :)

I am very intrigued by Lost in the Funhouse and will try to check it out from a local library at my earliest convenience, especially as short stories are about the right bite size for me these days.Have read 1984 (and kinda feel like one of the old impotent fellas at the pub of late) as well as the Dark Tower (assuming this is the Stephen King series) and the Game of Thrones (as much of it as there is) and Old Man and the Sea.Don't think i've read Jurassic Park, the Complete Sherlock Holmes (i assume you are limiting yourself to Doyle, and not all the Holmes inspired fiction?) and Where the Red Fern Grows, but at this point i've been contaminated by alternative media formats...I read a bunch of Doyle's less popular stuff: the Professor Challenger series, Brigadier Gerard, the White Company.Oryx and Crake sounds interesting, and i actually have not read any Atwood... Good first exposure to the author?

Oryx and Crake is modern masterpiece, but The Handmaid's Tale is also excellent.

I read just the Conan Doyle Sherlock for the most part, but a short story called "A Study in emerald" by Neil Gaimen is exquisite. And speaking of Gaimen, check out American Gods as well.

He attacked a pitch before there were two strikes.

Be still my beating heart.

Also acceptable...

Blind squirrel finds nut.

Hell freezes over.

Pigs fly.

Don't hold breath.

Cubs win world series.

True. Lily livered Roberts, that's what I say

Did Ervin just chase their starter on a ball that should have turned 2?

Am definitely a fan of Gaiman, and have read A Study in Emerald as well.

Graveyard Book is the only book i've gotten the day it came out.

Or should have ended the inning, whatever.

And now lightning strikes twice.

Glunn:  in honor of your first ever game thread post from a smart phone, I thought you might join the rest of society and start texting as well.

Just a warning.  Texting involves the use of lots of shortened, commonly used phrases that end up as a string of letters.  "WTH" you say?  LOL!

Anyway, I thought this might be useful for you:

And now I am forced to sheepishly admit that the only book I've ever purchased on the day it came out was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows.

If you're looking for short stories and think Barth sounds intriguing, also look for Indian Uprising by Donald Bartleme.

Good one. I probably need stronger glasses and a larger smart phone.

I can't find WTH on the chart...

Please clarify.

And i imagine old people wouldn't be satisfied with mere letters, when words could be sent.

The Dodgers' announcers talk a lot about the drills that players are doing on game days and what each player is focusing on. I wonder how well the Twins' coaches are doing with creating innovative and personalized drills.

I remember that when I coached in little league some coaches had dominating teams every year that exhibited superior fundamentals..

I wonder how much of the Dodgers' success is attributable to superior coaching, both in the minors and at the big league level.
