Reusse on Twins

I'm glad someone posted this story. I generally agreed with most of what Patrick said, but I'll add a few small changes.

1) I don't thin......

4) In my story a few days ago, I asked a scout about getting someone through waivers lnext week. He said he thought it was easier, because teams don't want to change up their roster unless the guy on waivers is a clear improvement. I guess I could see the Twins doing something like that: waiving Boshers next week to try and get him through and then adding Park and demoting Duffey.

thanks for you insight, sir. Appreciated.

Wish I could write off spring training trips!

Sorry, but you're going to have to be more specific, that could be anyone.

I thought Molly was supposed to be a lame duck manager. If so why isn't Falvey telling him that he'll get what he gets and he won't throw a fit. My 6-year-old taught me that one.

If Russe is right it seems the FO insisted on Haley. So with a sketchy rotation and an unreliable Haley, Molitor asked for a real long reliever.

I don't think that's unreasonable or unwise. The problem lies with the FO wanting a useless rule 5 pitcher.

I've given up trying to figure out this team. I'd rather spend time knocking my head against the wall!

I have no idea where Haley falls on those lists.  He's more ready now than Gonsalves, for instance, but how much that matters?  -shrug-

The Twins need SP depth.  I'm not sure he helps there but that's my assumption.  But I'm really worried that he doesn't seem to have Molitor's trust.  We saw how that worked last year for Meyer and Berrios.

I'm with ya on this.

Molitor seemed to avoid the kids at the first hint of trouble. He even seemed to avoid the kids at the first hint of the veterans having trouble.

Comparing Levine to Kahn?

Yikes.  Kahn was probably the worse  team president in MN sports history.  I really really really hope this is the last we see of that....Twins fans have suffered enough.

Yeah... That was Harsh.

Kahn, Blair Walsh, Norm Green and Walter Palmer the Dentist will never be good to be compared to.

One more thing. I wrote this week about the stress and friction this can cause between the front office and coaching staff. It feels like this caused a lot more than I anticipated.

Everyone involved are going to have to get used to it. It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

A staff that has been basically together for decades ...doing things the way they do things... have just had a couple of outsiders... not only enter their home... but take charge of their home.

I believe... The majority of TD readers can relate because we have seen this type of thing before in our own work environments. You just gotta think about the last time someone new came aboard and wanted to do things differently or god forbid actually change what was routine.

It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

I liked how Reusse pointed out how players were rolling their eyes upon hearing that Park was cut. Just going to keep running 11/49/.389 SLG out there.

The quote from Falvey was concerning. It reminded me of some of his comments at SportTech, where he sometimes sounded like he was "wearing his dad's clothes," trying to sound wise and experienced. It's not a mortal sin, but it leads to the risk of not making good decisions because you're paying more attention than necessary to coming off smart.

Saw Haley throw 3? innings this week.  89-91, touched 92 I think (and supposedly the Hammond Stadium is "hot.")  Nothing particularly noteworthy about off speed stuff.  Decent command, I guess.  *JAG, IMO.

I don't get the entire Justin Haley thing...from why we somehow had the 1st pick in the rule 5 but ended up with the 8th pick--with no known benefit--to the seeming overwhelming need to keep him on the 25 man, so much so they apparently took an extra pitcher to cover for him.

*Just A Guy

You are exactly right.  Imagine if Rick Spielman or Thibs traded down six spots with no return.  They'd better be darned sure about the player eventually chosen (which still doesn't explain the trading down).  Returning Haley to the BoSox would be admission that their first decision was a complete bomb.

"As a result of our worst season, we get certain benefits, including first picks in just about everything.  We decided to simply give away our first pick in the Rule 5 for, well, nothing.  Wait til you see us at the June draft!  I hope we'll be able to give THAT first pick away, too"
