Remakes and Other Such Nonsense

This is honestly true.  I have no idea what dudes are hot.  A few years ago my wife and I are starting "The Tourist" with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp.  The DVD is in but we haven't pushed play so it's showing stills from the movie and there'a  picture of Jolie in a dress looking stunning and then it goes to Depp in a suit with a cigarette and I start laughing.  And I tell my wife that this must be one of the biggest differences in hotness ever.  You have Angelina Jolie looking perfect and all the ladies get is Johnny Depp.  And she just looked at me for about three seconds and then said "are you serious?"  And I was like, yeah.  He's a great actor but come on.  Then she hit me.

We had the same problem with Jonathan Rhys Meyers.  I swear that guy hit every branch of the ugly tree on his way down but my wife thinks he's incredible.

Heh ... when I suggested this exercise, I thought ... 'Okay, easy ... I can name 5 'hot' women actresses' ... and I'm going through lists and pictures and NONE of them struck me that way.

But seriously? Johnny Depp???? You really don't see it?? Omg ... I'm just astounded!

But for what it's worth, I'm not high up on Benedict Cumberbatch at all. That is one I don't get from the female perspective. I guess male or female, we all have a 'type.'

Men:

- Leo DiCaprio
- Ryan Gosling

- Jamie Dornan
- Idris Elba

- Ryan Reynolds   Justin Timberlake (dude can sing, dance and act!)

Women:

- Beyonce
- Kate Upton
- Jennifer Anniston
- Sofia Vergara

- Jessica Alba

I have no opinion on the women, really ... heh ... but the men on your list, nope, not me. Well, Idris Elba ... I could listen to his voice all day long ... and night ;)

Heh ... I'm still laughing at Brock unintentionally naming all the Thor actors ... laughing because yeah, they would all be there somewhere ... and I never identified them before as all from Thor until he said it, but there it is.

It's really hard to make a 'list' because I really like people for different reasons. Heck, I would put Steve Buscemi on 'my list.' By society standards, he wouldn't be considered handsome, but I find him extremely appealing, even sexy, because he is an extremely interesting person and I like the portrayals he's done.

Other female considerations for me would be:

Audrey Tautou

Marion Cotillard

Jennifer Connelly

Definitely Jennifer Connelly. And I would be remiss not to mention Sigourney Weaver as well.

Back to the subject of remakes, here's a list of some in the works (113, to be precise).

http://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/reboots/248590/113-movie-remakes-and-reboots-currently-in-the-works

Why on earth anyone thinks they can surpass Big Trouble in Little China or Das Boot or Highlander or Major League or, geez!, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, is way beyond me. WTF, people.

Remake Seven Samurai? Boycott!

Well some of those are actually bad movies (in my opinion) so a second shot at making a decent movie would be OK in my book. Two of them were actually from my original list, Pet Semetary and League of Extraordinary Gentleman! But most of those are terrible ideas for a remake (again, in my opinion).

The Asian stereotypes in Big Trouble in Little China, well, let's just say they don't hold up very well. So I'm guessing any remake is going to be hilariously and justifiably ridiculed from the start.

Also, regarding Highlander; there was that spin-off TV show in the early 90's about Highlander. It was typical procedural 'villain of the week' kind of stuff. However I was thinking awhile back that a Highlander TV show today could actually be pretty good if it was done by a crew and a network that saw it as a finite story about immortals eliminating each other until there was only one.

Kong looks horrible. We just saw the Ghostbusters remake.  I really wanted to like it (and it had a few good parts) but it was pretty bad.

Same... Saw it on Sunday last weekend. It felt like an SNL bit that went for approximately 90 minutes too long. I like the lead actresses and was hoping for a few funny lines, but unfortunately it was just a crappy movie.

Time to bring this thread back.

Were you guys SALIVATING for a reboot of The Matrix? Well, you're about to get that soon

Oh, yuck. For all the crap the latter two-thirds of the Matrix trilogy gets (and deservedly so), there's no reason to reboot that franchise.

Agreed. The movie industry has officially run out of original ideas it appears.

The sad thing is that all it requires is for the industry to read a ****ing book, either prose or graphic novels.

The age of self-publishing has created a wealth of movies-in-waiting, all it requires is a little digging. So much good stuff out there.

Lies of Locke Lamora....either a great movie, or even better HBO series. Read it, Brock.

I'm so excited for 'Beauty and the Beast'! OMG!!! I can hardly contain myself!

The casting of Belle was a mistake but I'm going to take my daughter.  She's pretty excited.

I was being a little sarcastic with my over-reaction ... but I will go see it. Who do you think should have been cast? I'll see how Emma does.

Regardless of the quality of the original movies, the idea of living in an altered reality just isn't novel any longer. Other movies and TV shows are doing it better now, not interested in the Matrix again.

thoughts on the upcoming ghost in the shell, other than an almost naked Scarlett Johannsen....

I don't know much about Ghost although I understand it has some big fans.  -shrug- I like Scarlett Johansson, she's a good actress, she's pretty.   And she's better at action films than I would have guessed so I'm sure I'll see it, although probably not in the theater.

They are remaking 'Ghost'?

Anyone see the new KONG movie yet?

I think we are going to see Logan tonight or tomorrow night.

Saw it last night. Kinda fun sometimes, but holy mackerel was that a schlock fest. Pretty bad.

There should be a 40 year rule on remakes.  Matrix hasn't even made it 20 years before they are remaking it.

Though, Spiderman was remade like 8 times in 6 years, so I guess relatively speaking....

We saw Underworld Blood Wars. It's not good. And not pretty. Very grey and poorly lit.

There is only one reason to watch any Underworld movies, and if you can't see her, well.....
