The Other Outfielder

I think Rosario is one of the guys they should be looking to trade TBH

I just don't see the progression there with his inability to learn how to take a walk. IMO the Twins should demand more out of their players who play positions where they absolutely need to hit.

I'd settle for better pitch selection when swinging, even if the walks don't come. His plate discipline numbers are just lousy all-around.

Among the worst in the league in percentage of pitches swung at outside of the strike zone, combined with mediocre contact numbers when he does swing.

Somehow I think other GM's are aware of this.

Hopefully the Twins someday have 3 other great OF'ers and Rosario can be a great 4th OF'er but right now they don't. Right now Rosario is going to have to play himself out of a job. Palka with 30 HR potential is certainly an intriguing possibility though.

Of course other GMs know it/see it, I just think it would be wise to move on now. Rosario still has decent value as a CF which teams could use (cubs???) but zero value as a corner OF IMO.

Sign Joey Bats and let Rosario and Kepler fight it out for the other spot, with the loser the fourth OFer. I'm tired of "seeing what we have."

I would be on board with this, as I see Kepler winning that "competition" in a landslide.

Joey Bats would be a fantastic signing.

After he gets non-tendered by the Orioles, picked up by the Diamondbacks, released and picked up by the Mariners, and then traded to the Twins for Palka and PTBNL, I'm going to go with ABW.

Couldn't do worse than we did last year when ABW didn't play - Lol

186 SO / 9 SB / 5 CS / BA .254 / OBP .327 - AA & AAA while an average Defender in Palka

Palka had a  .232 BA & .296 OBP in AAA with a 38.6% SO rate yet looked at as a replacement for Rosario.  Lol - Oh and a 8.1 BB rate in AAA

25 SO / 5 SB / 3 CS / BA .319 / OBP .343 - AAA Rosario

91 SO / 5 SB / 2 CS / BA .269 / OBP .295 - MLB Rosario

Only in Minnesota would fans want Palka over a MUCH MUCH better defender in Rosario

Somebody would have to explain that to me someday.

202 SO / 7 SB /  4 CS / BA .243 / OBP .305 - This guy [ABW] doesn't have a chance in hell to make it in the MLB though because he struck out at a lower 38.0% rate in AAA with a higher 8.3 BB rate in AAA than the above mentioned Palka.  One guy is a replacement for Rosario and the other guy doesn't have a chance at ever making it in the MLB.  Honest assessment is why exactly?

Palka has a stronger arm than Walker, but is nowhere near the defender of Walker in the OF.   According to Rochester manager Mike Quade.

All that being said - Neither player should be a replacement for Rosario - PERIOD!

I think Batista would be a great asset for all the young hitters on this team.

P.S.  I'm a big Eddie Rosario fan.  However, if he doesn't improve OBP this year, it's time to move on.

I like Rosario to, but like you, I think it would be foolish to pencil him in as the corner OF for this teams future at this stage.

Isn't Joey Bats, like, the opposite of a leader? Don't read great things about him on line. Not sure he fits with what they are looking for in a veteran (not saying I agree or not, just that he doesn't profile well....).

I'm not convinced Rosario can hit enough to play the corner, but I'd give him one more year to convince me. It's not like there is another good option right now. As thrylos' point, ya, none have shown they can hit, but at least Kepler appears able to take some pitches.

Give Rosario half a season under a new hitting coach, evaluate, then make a decision.

I'm not bullish on Rosario's chances of being an above average outfielder but he's shown enough ability to warrant another look.

He has 800 PAs and a .735 OPS. That's not going to blow anyone out of the water but it's enough to give him more time.

The Twins have three guys that need to play and see how they develop. Kepler, Buxton and Rosario are the outfield. Grossman right now is the backup. Maybe Danny Santana is still in the mix as a bench guy who can also play the infield.

Palka and Granite will need time at AAA and the hope is that either could come to the majors short-term if someone goes down. But you real hope is that the 4th outfielder can play as a regular if someone goes down, which means he has to play centerfield...although Rosario could also play the position.

I would think there is NO leash on any of the starters in 2017. They play, they work hard, we see what we do have. No up-and-down to the minors with anyone, no matter how bad.

Granite and Plaka both will have options, They really don't need a place on the roster fulltime until 2018 at best, 2019 at worst. And look for the Twins to sign a guy with possible experience to also play at AAA in case we need a quick callup. He may be another Schafer, but are we to complain?

The bigger question is who goes to AAA, Vargas or Park.

Unless the Twins do trade Dozier, the roster seems pretty set from the field aspect.

The only real changes may be in the makeup of the bullpen and the decision on what to do with Trevor May.

Why do people think DanSan can play a position, because he has?

He has been nearly the worst player in baseball, just because he made the majors and played doesn't mean he SHOULD play.

I don't understand how he's on the roster at this point, I really don't.

Ben Revere. He provides good defense in LF (understand he has a bad arm), CF insurance if Buxton can't hit and could lead off.  He'll only be 29 in May and was good until last year, so potentially could be signed on a one year make good deal while we wait on Palka and Granite. He would also be an ideal 4th OF because he can play all 3 OF spots and is tradeable at the deadline.  He's exactly the kind of veteran you want while younger guys develop. He can start the season as part of a 4 OF rotation with Kepler, Buxton and Rosario, be traded in the unlikely event all 3 work out or Palka is ready now, and can start if one of the 3 has to go back to AAA.

By what measure could he lead off? He's pretty bad at the whole hitting thing...I'm not convinced he signs a MLB deal this off season, frankly.

Risario is very talented in all phases of the game and has flashed what he is capable of. He only has something like 770 ML AB. You just don't give up on a talented player like that so soon.

Let him build on what he's done thus far, work with the new coach, and give him at least half of 2017 before you decide he'll never be "enough" in an/any area to move on from or turn in to a potential 4th OF.

Fair, if he gets another 500 next year, and can't take a pitch and has a bad OBP, then can we start judging him for what he is? At some point, you can, I'm asking what that point is....because you'll have to make decisions about him/others eventually.
