We're supposed to be excited about this?  An average of 1.4 WAR over the last 3 seasons and not one of those seasons over 2.0 WAR?  Last year was 16th out of 20 in WAR for catcher (catchers with 350 or more PA) and .5 WAR more than Kurt.

Pitch framing puts him well over 2 wins per season, maybe upwards of 3. 3rd best framer in the MLB in 2016. This is a great deal and he is very big upgrade over J.R. Murphy, Juan Centeno and Mitch Garver.

That's the point. Castro is a big upgrade over the previous in house options. Good job by the FO to pinpoint a need and address it in a cost efficient manner.

This is a very logical move. Not exciting but they got somebody to fill a position that has very little depth anywhere in the org. Will Twins pitchers show a miraculous turnaround since the Twins go from one of the worst defensive catchers to one of the better ones?

He shoots he scores. Building a new foundation one brick at a time. Castro's offense seems comparable to Suzuki's. How much of a difference will his defense make?

Great signing.  Ramos is going to likely look for a one year deal to rebuild value.  It does not make sense for a rebuilding team to spend what Wieters will get.  Castro also makes a nice platoon with Garver when he is ready which is hopefully very soon.

 

Now they can concentrate on getting pitching in trade for Dozier.
