The Cubs went 8-3-1 in their last 12 games while giving their starters some rest.  What's kind of record would be considered a good surge into the playoffs? :-)

Or do you mean you prefer teams that have to win at all costs at the end just to make it into one of the wild card spots? ;-)

The Cubs may have finished strong, but were able to take the foot off of the gas peddle so to speak.  Momentum is a powerful weapon, in my view, so getting into the wild card spot needing to win is more beneficial than clinching really early and allowing to heal up.

Fixed it for you. :)

The wildcard game is part of the postseason. Period. Last I checked, the Mets and Giants sent their aces out tonight.

The day that the #4 and 5 seeds decide to stay home and flip a coin for it, is the day we can stop taking the wild card game seriously.

so it's better to squeak into the playoffs than win so many games you have one of the best records ever? Not sure I follow...

Also the things he can do with a baseball bat.

I might change my vote to the Giants just to stay on his good side. :)

my mistake. I do hear a lot of naysaying about it on this site though and just grouped you mistakenly. And this is a good game tonight too.

I don't really like them myself.  They're fun to watch, but I do see them as more of an extension of the regular season.  Aces would still likely pitching in a game 163.  I also view a 163rd game as more exciting than the wild card games.  That's just my opinion.  I don't really get too bent out of shape about it though and I'm certainly not loud about it.  I think the bigger reason that I don't care much for them is that baseball says "we need to shorten the postseason time frame" and then went and added games to it.  It's nonsensical and backwards.  Clearly it's a money reason rather than baseball reason.  I'd rather they just be honest about it rather than talking out both sides of their mouths.

I'm not trying to argue with anyone.  I'm just conveying my opinion on the matter.

Silly Jays fans....don't they know that you don't throw concessions onto the field in the wild card game until they blow an infield fly rule call?!

That's a Canadian and NY thing and I can say it because I married one and lived in NY for 4+ years.  Fans acted like animals throwing beer bottles, batteries, pencils, dead animals, all kinds of stuff on the ice, courts, whatever sport is being played.  Not sure how they got some of the stuff into the arenas to begin with.

To be truthful NY city and the city of Toronto have the absolute worst fans as a collective whole.  Disrespectful, trash talking punks who think they can do whatever they want because they are in a mob situation and live in BIG bad cities.    My experience / opinion having lived in Alabama, Minnesota, Virginia, North Carolina, DC, Ohio, Upstate NY.

Neither better nor worse. A team is either in or out. Regular season Win-Loss records are nice for other things, but don't mean anything in the postseason, which is what most players and teams are playing for.

Fun with Numbers:

Madison Bumgarner has now thrown 23 scoreless innings in elimination games, dating back to the 2014 WC game (10 k shutout) and his 5 inning relief outing in game 7 of the 2014 WS.

Madison's last 9 postseason outings:

68.2 IP, 6-1, 3 CG shutouts.

I don't think there's anyone else in the world you'd rather have pitching when your team needs a win.

TOR looks decent, I guess....

Estrada is mad/disappointed he didn't/couldn't finish the game.  With a nine run lead and only two outs to go, sort of don't blame him for being mad/disappointed.  I hope Texas gets swept and the games are all blowouts.

Too late for me to back out of my Mets prediction. At least Hernandez still spit on Kramer and Newman. Didn't he?

It was McDowell. He was fired today, so he's been taken care of as well. Muahaha.

I'm going with the Cubs.

Second choice is the Giants.

Dark horse: Cleveland.
