Rio Olympics

Pardon My Dinger

I can't think of a more likeable athlete than Bolt these days. If only there was someone who could truly challenge him right now. De Grasse looked like he was going max effort, and Bolt started coasting a bit after the final turn. That was a great moment at the finish line when they were both smiling at each other, and Bolt kicked it in just a little bit to win at the end.

Followed up by the Mutumbo finger wag.

Yeah, De Grasse's future looks as bright as it does because Bolt won't be around much longer, nobody is in his league, amazing.

Watching the men's 31k Pedestrianism race.....these guys are nuts.

It's like a bunch of guys doing the cha cha really fast.

I think you meant to post this in the "Sport Requiring the Most Athleticism" thread.

Canada loses the Bronze in the race walk after an appeal of their successful appeal to the same body is also successful.

Oh IOC, never change.

My feeling is like Golf....if the judges don't see it when it happens, it didn't bleeping happen.

edit: and yes, Golf should always be capitalized!

Yup, sure, Ggolf, just like that.

This would be funnier, if it weren't so true.

I'm surprised they didn't include the BBC guy who described the Women's Judo final as a "catfight". My personal fave.

I'd forgotten that the 'twirl' incident came from a CBC reporter.

Are you talking about the Aussie Open thing with Bouchard awhile back? That was an Aussie reporter, not a CBC one.

"Twirl" incident? Which one was that?

Maybe it wasn't a CBC reporter, but after winning a tough match, the male interviewer asked her to 'give us a twirl, let's get a look at your outfit.' Then coaxed her, 'Come on, a little pirouette.' She did it and moved on, but the fact the No. 7 ranked player was asked to do something like that, ugh.

Agreed, it was brutal. Can you imagine asking Federer, Djokovic or Nadal to do a little Twirl? Pathetic.

That's ridiculous. During an interview you're supposed to ask the male athletes to flex their biceps.

NBC is blaming cord cutting millennials for the ratings.....I mean, sure, millennials are singlehandedly ruining the world....

I am 52....I didn't watch because:

it was tape delayed. Sports should not be tape delayed. Nothing "live" should be.

......

......

lots of space.....

The fluff was unwatchable. I want to watch the actual competition.

The coverage is undeniably sexist.

I just don't care to watch as much tv that I don't care about anymore.

A lot of broadcasting companies are going to be complaining about this if they do not evolve. Provide easier ways to stream the content without the need of a cable subscription if this is a dire situation for them.

There's so many shows and content that demand out attention these days... so you're exactly right. We don't care to watch tv about things we don't care about.

I watched a lot of it but I haven't at all followed the various methods of broadcasting the Olympics. Was there really no live streaming of the events at all? I mean even FSN has an app I can do that with the Twins.

I'd guess that would change in Tokyo.

It's my understanding that NBC did everything they could to block streaming in the US. But, I could be wrong about that.

Would I pay $25 to watch the Olympics live? I doubt it, but it is possible.

I'd want to be able to choose to watch any number of live feeds, mostly so I could ignore the fluff and watch the sports.

I'm not sure. I don't have cable, so most everything Olympics related I watched was over-the-air content, unless I was at a bar someplace. I don't recall ever seeing an ad saying "Watch all of your favorite Olympics coverage on the Rio 24/7 App!"

For those that love the Olympics, $25 seems very reasonable to skip the fluff and give you a few live feeds/events to follow.

The CBC had over 4000 hours of live streaming during Rio in addition to plenty of live television coverage.

That's a good question, Jimmer. Unfortunately, no. The FIVB World Cup of Volleyball does not take place until 2019 : (

learn something new everyday around here.  Had no idea Volleyball had a World Cup competition.
