So if a pitcher allows 3 runs through 6 it's a quality start. Is it still a quality start if he allows a run or many runs in the seventh inning? I realize it's not an official stat but I've never been clear on it.

the pen.

Not mightier than the sword today. An object lesson in the near-irrelevance of reliever ERA...

Even if they go 9, it's not a quality start if they give up 4 earned runs. Makes no sense.

Mauer is swinging the bat like his concussion symptoms are back. Either that, or his back hurts. He's got no pop in his swing anymore.

The Twins may not perpetually lead the league in player days lost to the DL, but if there were stats for performance lost to playing through injuries the Twins would have to be near the top of the heap.

Agreed, although it's a font of reason and accountability compared to a reliever getting a vulture W for giving up a one pitch rocket lineout to CF after a starter who pitched 8 innings of a scoreless tie gets a pat on the head.

Though I'm disappointed in Molitor this year, at least he didn't do what the Brew Crew did today.

Get drunk, dress a pet like a hotdog, and pass out?

Never mind, I was thinking of my central MN relatives...

No argument about the win stat. However it seems so easy to change the QS star so that 8+IP and 4 earned runs would qualify. Would add about 30 quality starts to Jack's stat sheet, including one huge CG win over the A's in August 1991.

Did anybody hear a while ago Gladden say (slip out?) that teams have been calling about Vargas?

I know, negativity police, I will show myself out back of the game thread and to the discussion boards.....

Calling him out for what?

What did they do?

Manager switched Braun and Lucroy in the lineup. Apparently neither of them knew as Braun went up 3rd, got a hit, and was called out after Baker appealed it.

Ouch.

Taking the needless out is bad enough, but getting 'out-managed' by Dusty 'walks are bad' Baker... ouch.

And since the manager is usually closest to the lineup card in the dugout, and could have said something when Braun went up to the on deck circle, the manager apparently forgot that he switched them, too. Great job all around! :)

Raise your hand if you'd have been shocked if this Twins outfit had saved its most exciting comeback win for one of a dozen games that's not on TV this year...

Whyyyyy was Santana allowed to hit in a situation like that again?

I suppose they could have used Suzuki, he's been swinging a hot bat

Because stats be damned, he LOOKS like a ballplayer! Rob Antony's hunches are like gold when it comes to player valuations...

Where is Buxton?

On the way to AAA to make room for May?

Buxton on the bench leads to Oakland's third run--Santana can't throw straight from the OF to save his soul.
